Someone staying at the Savory needs to check up on the shuttle van service they have.I'll bet they'd drive everyone from the noodle works to wells fargo, and it's free...could someone investigate this?

Hi all. New to the board, but I have tickets to the DM show. Can't wait. I used to live in DM and moved from there about a year and a half ago, so I am not really familiar with the Events Center/WF Arena. Is it connected to the skywalk system? Also, Jeremy (and Suess, too)- Court Avenue Brewing Co. is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It is a popular business lunch place that may account for the 'suits', but I really would not describe it as ritzy, swanky, upscale or anything like that. You can get a good meal in the $7-8 range, they have great appetizers (some you can make a meal out of), and the microbews are really good. I know that's where I'm headed before the show. I like Buzzard Billy's too. Oh, it's going to be nice to be back!!!!

Welcome, and if you plan on drinking across the street from us, fo-get-abouit! Come join the festivities at the Noodle House with us! Hopefully I'll be sitting outside on the sidewalk sucking down a couple of cold ones if the weather holds up...

Hello All-I am brand new to the board but a long time huge Paul fan. I somehow managed to get a 2nd row seat and am tickled to death as the only other time I saw Paul was in 1990 at Ames Hilton Head and I was like upper deck. It was fantastic then even that far away so I am only dreaming of the 2nd row! Did I mention 2nd row? I am pumped to the MAX! I am wondering if anybody knows how to get into the sound check I have heard some fans get to go to? I have dreams of hanging around and getting backstage-know it won't happen but we all dream don't we!! Counting the days!! Dave from Clinton IA

Thanks for the welcome and the invite. I still plan on dining at CABCo (though that may change), but it's great to know there will be a whole group of fellow Paul fans across the street. I may have to stop by for a drink and to say hello. And welcome Dave. Sorry I don't know anything about sound check.

From what I've heard, getting into a Paul soundcheck is not easy. Some tour companies sell VIP pkgs that include soundcheck - I do not know if anyone did that for the Des Moines show - FanAsylum did it for the European tour last year. Usually, folks think they're pretty lucky if they see the limo drive in and Paul gives the thumbs-up from inside the car Have a great time!

Nice article in today's Register, although the non-fan, non-music critic who wrote it thinks Something is called Something (In The Way She Moves). It was a good read. We'll see if they twist what I said all out of context and make me look like a fool. I thought it was more like 8-10 blocks from Court Avenue to the Arena. I worked at the Federal Buidling on Walnut for many years and like I said before, I wouldn't have dreamed of walking to Vets Auditorium and Wells Fargo looks like it is north of Vets. A little far for me, so either we can call a taxi or take up Gaye on her offer of a ride. Maybe I will park 1/2 way in between. I don't know yet. Is it the Spaghetti Works for sure?

Hey everyone!! My boyfriend and I are arriving Wednesday night from Los Angeles. We'll be staying at the Savery. We have a rental car, so we'll probably just drive over to the Arena, rather than make that long walk. We'd love to meet up with you other boardies. I wanted to watch the limo arrival, but it sounds as though you guys will be eating and drinking together around this same time. I may try to wait for the limo and then hightail it back to the Spaghetti Works or Court Avenue Brewery. . . did you guys definitely decide upon a meet-and-greet location?? Sounds like it's gonna be a few people at one place, a few people at another. PLEASE, somebody, post the info!! Maybe a few of us can exchange cell phone numbers via private message. Anyone????

The last I heard - we were meeting at Spaghetti Works between 3-4 for whoever wants a drink, eat, etc. There was 1 person that thought they'd be at Court Ave Brewing but might venture to Spaghetti Works - they are basically across the street from each other. My husband and I are planning to drop into Spaghetti Works sometime between 3-4 and will probably eat an early dinner or snack and head to the arena early - still worried about how long it will take to get in. Some good news regarding that - my sister went to Rascal Flatts last night - practically a sell-out - only took them 15-20 minutes to get in the door. They were in their seats 45 min before showtime which was at 8 like Paul's. Doors were said to open at 6:30 but did not open until 7. I'm going to call the arena and ask what time for Paul and will post it. I hope I have all that right and that it answered your questions Scotty Cat - if I don't - please someone can correct me

Maccascruff - did you also see "the youngest son, James" - like duh - he's the ONLY son! Get your facts straight. I work at ISU - I heard stories about how the greeters were selected! My husband and I will be at Spaghetti Works between 3-4 (probably close to 4) if you want to meet us there - someone else was planning to be there and now I can't remember who - the Liverpool, Iowa person??

BTW, I think they're talking in the upper 50's for Thursday!! Could be worse

Great!! We'll see you all at Spaghetti Works!! I'll probably want to head out to the arena early and try to wait for the limo arrival. Just curious. . . do you think any of the nicer bars will be open after the show?? It's always difficult to just go back to the hotel room and go to sleep after a Paul show. I'm always so energized afterward, that I want to share the excitement with others. For any others who aren't too tired to meet up later, are there any ideas for a late-night meet-up spot? Is there a nice bar at the Savery?? One more question. . . where do you think the band will stay while in Des Moines?? I'm guessing there's not a Ritz or Four Seasons there, but others have mentioned meeting the band (minus Paul, of course) in the bar at whatever hotel they were staying in.
-
Hey Scotty .. We'll be at the Spaghetti Works(one block south of your hotel) just after 3 on Thursday(2 women and myself),will save a place for everyone. We also are planning on leaving the works around 5 to catch Paul and the band arriving, and then soundcheck.Forget about driving up there, leave your rental at the Savery and walk with us,it's a very short distance,no matter what anyone claims... The weather looks like it will be decent, and we're going to have a FANTASTIC time !! This is Iowa, not LA or NY,we won't miss a thing, pay no attention to the people here with the negative vibes about being late,or too far to walk.Have you asked the Savery about their shuttle service to and from the show? That would be a plus, but not really necessary... Have a nice drive between Omaha and Des Moines,it should be right at about 3 hours for you.The trees are just past prime time, but still enjoyable.Welcome to the heartland of America, better known as "Macca Central" next week... I know of a meeting place after the show very close to Wells Fargo,we'll talk about that later.I do not know where he will be staying at,but the Savery possibly could be one of them,so be on the lookout!

Thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about getting into the show on time. I also don't mind driving my rental car to the show, if necessary. On past occasions, I've found that hotel shuttles aren't always that reliable or punctual, so I won't count on that as my mode of transportation. I certainly don't mind walking, so long as I can have time for an early dinner and a couple of drinks, and still have time to be there to watch Paul's limo drive in. I'm looking forward to experiencing the lovely midwestern autumn weather, although it feels a bit like that here in L.A. today. I'm getting excited now!!
-
I was excited about 6 months ago!!!!! Only 4 more days.....WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!! I'm driving from Kansas City by myself on Thursday, and I think that check-in at The Savery is 3:00....I'm hoping I can check in earlier! I want to meet everyone at The Spaghetti Works!!! Can anyone tell me how far The Spaghetti Works is from The Savery??? Also, I think The Savery has a bar, so some of us can meet there after the show!!!

Like I said a page before, I think my wife and I will be going to a few different places looking for the coldest beer. Spaghetti place will probably be one of the stops. If you see me, stop me and say hi -- I'll have on a shirt with the pic below on it (my son drew the pic). 4 DAYS!!!

Just heard on the radio station that's doing the remote from the arena - doors will open at 6:30 Just a thought - I'm not sure I'd count on Paul staying in Des Moines. When he played Ames several years ago - I believe he left immediately. Since he has a few days off in between DsM and Omaha - maybe he'll jet back to one of his houses for the weekend?? Also 10/28 is Bea's 2nd b-day. Just a thought.

I seriously doubt if Paul will stay in Des Moines. When Paul and Linda came to Ames, they didn't. I know Paul and Linda used to set up bases where they stayed while on tour. They did sometimes have a hotel to hang out in while getting ready for a show. Yes, I saw the bit about James, the youngest son. That person is no fan! However, I hope I didn't come off sounding too stupid in the article yesterday. My dad thought I did, but I expected that. Here's the link to the article. http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051023/ENT04/510230307/1046/ENT I will get to the Spaghetti Works between 3 and 4. I want to check in at my hotel, as I don't know if anyone will be at the desk to check me in afterwards. They pick me up for the rental car at 1 on Thursday and it's about 20 minutes to where I do the paperwork. Then mapquest says it's about an 1 1/2 to the hotel. So, I will be there close to 3, more like 3:30 by the time I find a place to park and get there. I don't know if I will be online tomorrow, but will try Wednesday, so don't go changing the place of the meet up on me!
