Scottycatt, are you going to any of the other shows? Are you going to the screening of Paul's new DVD at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood next weekend? I'm going to be there... Sharon
There's a strong possibility that I will go. I've contacted Reallove 64 and I'm wondering if Peggy Sue (Michelle) and any of our other local boardies might like to come. I posted earlier in the week on the "Rusty" thread. . . trying to organize a group to make it to one or both of his upcoming shows. Did you catch that bit in Brian's webchat regarding Rusty's shows? Glad to know you were there. Maybe next time we'll meet. I saw a girl taking pictures during the show. . . don't know if that was you or the other girl you mentioned in your post. It's ironic that I earn my living in photography, yet I NEVER take a camera with me if I'm not working!!

Yeah, I saw the transcript...it makes me want to go and possibly see Brian! I'm definitely more likely to go to the Roxy show rather than the one at the Coach House. My parents live about 20-30 minutes away from the Coach House, but I don't think any of my friends would go with me to that show. I might be able to convince some LA friends to go to the Roxy, though.

I took pictures "quietly" from my seat, without flash...I didn't get up at all to take pictures. I was sitting at the table behind the woman who was taking flash pictures. Mine probably won't come out, but they're getting processed tomorrow...I'll let you know what the outcome is. Who knows, maybe Paul will show up at one of the gigs...:-D...he is in LA... Sharon

Speaking of Paul being in LA, are they still recording the album? Or is it completely done?

Unfortunately, I can't. I have to dog-sit/house-sit in LA this weekend.

There's a big piece on Rusty in today's Orange County Register, www.ocregister.com You have to be signed up to access the page, but here is the story Friday, April 16, 2004 Orange Pop Guitarist and Orange County native Rusty Anderson plays close to home this weekend. GUITAR MAN La Habra High School grad Rusty Anderson says he?s thrilled about playing a string of local dates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MULTIMEDIA Listen to "Hurt Myself" from Rusty Anderson By ROBERT KINSLER Special to the Register Guitarist Rusty Anderson has a professional career stretching back to his distinctive work with the Bangles on "Different Light" in 1986 and has since been featured on recordings with the New Radicals, the Wallflowers, Animal Logic, Sinead O'Connor, Perry Farrell, Ricky Martin and Santana, as well as the latest studio albums released by Elton John, Lisa Marie Presley, Joe Cocker and Jewel. However, it wasn't until after he joined Paul McCartney's band in February 2001 that his public profile became commensurate with his status as one of the most respected studio guitarists working today. Anderson released his first solo release, "Undressing Underwater," on Oxide Records in late 2003 and is performing a string of local dates before he returns to England next month to rehearse for an upcoming summer tour with McCartney. The La Habra High School graduate plays with his band at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano on Saturday night, marking his first appearance in Orange County since playing with McCartney at Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim in October 2002. "I'm very thrilled," Anderson said of his solo dates in Southern California. "When you are singing and writing songs, you are wearing a lot of hats, and it has been a little while since I've done that. Now, I have to get back into that mode of paying attention to all those things." Although Anderson has been a founding member of acclaimed bands such as the Living Daylights and Ednaswap, he has been primarily recognized for his skills playing guitar. On "Undressing Underwater," his equally impressive strengths as singer, songwriter and producer are showcased. "That's the thing about your first record; you have your whole life of songs to draw from. So that's kind of the beauty of that," he said. The disc's highlights are many, with the lead track "Hurt Myself" an especially effective power-pop gem enhanced by the blending of McCartney's backing vocals with a strong performance by Sir Paul's entire band. "When we did the track with Paul, that was over at Sunset Sound, and that was sort of last-minute. I needed a place where we could actually all spread out and play," Anderson recalled, noting that even after McCartney's band had recorded basic tracks in the studio, the track was far from finished. "We laid the song down live. After that, I decided I didn't like the verse vocal line, so I changed that and sort of changed the chords a little bit; but the foundation still worked. I had to do a tiny bit of editing, but the basic foundation worked, and (I) started overdubbing. Paul and I did background vocals that same day. And then it just all magically worked." Working with McCartney was one of many thrills Anderson had; he also enlisted longtime friend and Police drummer Stewart Copeland to play on his high-powered surf instrumental "Catbox Beach." At Anderson's performance at Spaceland in Silver Lake on April 4, one of the strongest songs was "Electric Trains," a song that dates back to Anderson's work with the Living Daylights. The tune perhaps best defines Anderson's sound, which blends power pop, hard rock and psychedelic sounds together as easily as some of his own heroes. And Anderson is one to always make sure musical and lyrical worlds are in sync. "All of a sudden it hit me; I wasn't sure what that song was about and that was one of the reasons I wanted to rewrite it. And then I realized the song was about my brother (Benjamin Michael Anderson), who died when I was 5. I think when you lose somebody in a family you go through a lot of phases, and eventually it sort of all settles. You feel that you are glad the person was in your life and you have some perspective, like you can sort of find the good things about it. ... I think the song is basically about the roots of where people come from. No matter where you go, you'll always have that." Anderson will perform on a bill with Dread Zeppelin at the Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $13.50, and some were still available at the venue's box office as of deadline. Call the Coach House at (949) 496-8930 or visit www.the coachhouse.com for more details about the show.
