At this precise moment i am writing this post,Senator Barack Obama is the Favorite to win the General Election and to win the Presidency.Obama already leads the Polls in crucial States like New York,Michigan,North Carolina,California,etc...For the past few weeks/events/speeches Senator John McCain has been/looks very tired. When i met Senator McCain a few weeks ago he was looking much better.McCain needs help, even because NOT all of the Republican Party is supporting him 100%.Meaning of this :-Senator McCain needs urgently a strong running mate, somebody like Mitt Romney, for example.
Obama 49% versus McCain 46%.
Exactly.CNN National Poll.

Neither NY or California are important to win...they're already in the democrat column.....it's the swing states that are crucial for your buddy to win. That's what I'm talking about.

I blame Jimmy Carter for supporting putting down the peaceful Iranian Shaw(sp) government in favor of the more radical who took Americans prisioner for over 1 year in the late 70's or very early 80's. But when Ronald Reagan was elected President - these radicals got weakened knees & released the American captives. btw - the majority of those imprisoned declare that Achmadinagad(sp) was one of the tormentors / prison guards. Jimmy Carter's approved government of choice
I can understand believing propaganda during a crisis or election, but why stay with it long after all but the most ardent propagandists have accepted the reality? The "peaceful" Shah was a brutal dictator who ruled with torture, murder and terror. If you want to blame an American president for Iran's distrust of the United States, begin with Eisenhower and add every president since then. The American and British coup against Dr. Mossadegh, the democratically elected prime minister, and the military and financial support for murderous dictators like Pahlavi and Iraq's Hussein made the revolution inevitable. Ahmadinejad was not involved in the American hostage situation in 1979. Even the American CIA says he was not.
I agree with you to some extent. However, it's very difficult to discount the cold war in that as well.
I'm also willing to agree to some of your thoughts. As for the CIA they have not always been a reliable souce of information. They are a government branch, and government offices in the end will not write history. I, however, accept the word of some of those Americans imprisoned and/or tortured in Iran over the CIA's word. As with Iran - if an American president was responsible for Iran's distrust of American - the distrust from the American side may well be rooted to events that occured during WWII.
Dr Mossadegh was aligning with the Soviet Union during the cold war....which is why it shouldn't be discounted.

What fun is politics if there isn't a smear campaign. Let all the pigs get down and dirty.

Truth, Bill?? Looks like the standard denial, denial
You see, that's where paralysing cynicism takes over from healthy scepticism. There's nothing wrong with denying something that isn't true. There's nothing wrong with fighting back against lies. And everything there is backed up with facts. This is not standard denial, this is thorough debunking. And again, it augers well for how he will perform as president.

Cynicism isn't my style, you know that. Anyone would deny what they believe isn't true. That's what I mean by the standard denial, denial. While I'm not saying there is indeed a tape of Michelle Obama, simply stating there "isn't one", doesn't come off as fact to me. Anyone can put up a website and put up anything they want is my point. Instead of focusing on issues, it still remains inconclusive of how he will perform as president. It bothers me that he would make a speech in Washington stating that Jersusalem will never be divided. : Now that is something that needs to be explored rather than debunking nonsense.

There's what you believe to be untrue and there's what you know and can demonstrate is untrue. You're not saying that Obama "believes" he didn't attend a radical madrassa are you? He was there, he knows he didn't, and there video of the actual school to prove it. Now I grant you that merely saying a tape doesn't exist doesn't prove it doesn't. But one thing that would decide the issue is if someone produced the alleged tape. If no-one does, that tells you all you need to know. You see, this does not follow the standard procedure of deny, deny, deny. If it did, it would be shrouded in weasel words, like, "to our knowledge, no such tape exists," or, "I haven't committed a felony in the last 25 years." Standard denial presents no evidence that the charges aren't true. Instead, the Obama campaign has been absolute and categorical in its rebuttal. Recheck the language and you'll see that you don't hear that kind of absolute language in politics very much. And that means they have opened themselves up to big charges of lying if these tapes ever show up. Who in their right mind would take such a risk? I flatter myself that I have a pretty good bullshit detector and it's not flashing right now. If anything on that page does turn out to be a porky, you can be the first to say you told me so. The sad thing is that so long as there are enough loons out there who believe nonsense, and so-called "news" outlets who report malicious rumour as fact, people need to stand up for the truth. But I do agree that Omaba has put absolutely no space between himself and every other presidential hopeful in his pandering to the Israeli lobby.
-
Does anyone else feel that term limits for congress would be a good thing? I think when you have 80 year old senators who are so old they're wearing depends that it might be a good time for some new blood. That also my concern for McCain 72 the brain cells start going faster. Look what happen to Regan at the end. I can imagine his Alzheimer's was progressing even when he was the leader of our country. How scary. Certainly they wouldn't of told any of us. I also suppect McCain is going to choose Lieberman for his running mate.
-
I feel that term limits are undemocratic, it takes away the choice and voice of the people. No term limits including the Presidency.

Well, my point is, as a voter in this election.....I don't care about the language the campaign uses. I very much care about the issues I flatter myself that I have a pretty good bulls**t detector and it's not flashing right now. Now that, to me is fair game. Keep your detector on that and where he goes next, my friend. That's a revelant discussion.

I'm not with you on the presidency, Phillip. The reason the constitution was amended on the presidency was due to Roosevelt. He was extremely ill and frankly, there was a risk to the US. Two terms is enough. Ever notice how much older former presidents look after they leave office? There's a reason for that. I don't think term limits are necessary for the house as their terms are only two years. Not sure about the senate which is six years and there are many very old senators that perhaps shouldn't be there and there are some that are as spry as anything. My state has one and he is more valuable today then ever The other long standing clown most likely will get the boot this fall.

I know why it was done, and that the Republicans passed the measure, but that amendment truly takes away the power of the people. If Americans want a President for a third term, it's shouldn't be up to Congress, it should be up to the people of the United States. But if the Executive Branch is limited to term limits, then all branches of government should be affected including the Supreme Court. I think if this was ever taken to the Supreme Court, I'm positive they would declare term limits on the Executive Branch unconstitutional.

Don't blame the victim. I'm all for sticking to the issues, but if irrelevant distractions are a problem for you (and rightly so) then your issue is with those who spread rumours and lies, not those who slap them down. The question that must naturally follow is, who would spread such rumours and lies, and what purpose do they have in doing so? Why do they not feel they can win by talking about issues?

Oh, I'm sure you do know why.....I do think we're talking to a wider audience then just ourselves, so it's sometimes helpful for those just lurking about Since the constitution was amended to limit presidents to two terms, I don't see how it would ever be challenged in court Moreover, since the constitution was amended the supreme court couldn't find it unconstitutional because it is constitutional. I'm sure you already know this, but for the benefit of the peanut gallery ..... presidents are elected, supreme court justices are appointed. In that role, it seems to me, it's more beneficial overall to have a longer serving justice, even though I don't personally agree with all of their rulings.

I'm all for sticking to the issues, but if irrelevant distractions are a problem for you (and rightly so) then your issue is with those who spread rumours and lies, not those who slap them down. Well, I'd say my issue is with those that feel the need to validate rumours and lies by giving them more attention than deserved. The question that must naturally follow is, who would spread such rumours and lies, and what purpose do they have in doing so? Why do they not feel they can win by talking about issues?
They probably have too much time on their hands and don't have the wherewithal to talk about issues sensibly. By denigrating the process and bringing it to a level of lies and rumours it serves as a distraction. It's up to voters to ignore continue distractions, although I do believe with the NKOTB in the political process that may not be possible unfortunately.
