The only thing I argue against here is that when it came to the actual number of votes, this was a close race...however, because we work on an electoral system, the final results were a landslide. This makes me feel like my vote means nothing.
I've been saying this for a long time. Nice to see that someone gets it. The electoral college is a gross distortion of the people's will. There was no landslide. Obama's mandate is slim.
Actually the electoral college allows a small, less populated state like Rhode Island or Delaware have the same status as a NYor California. And as someone else mentioned, this was not a landslide and there is no real mandate. Had to laugh about the comparison to Reagan's election....not even close Glad to see happy people around....I wish him luck ....he'll need it. Someone back a few pages accused me of being a democrat Not in the slightest....while I appreciate and understand the POV, that doesn't mean I subscribe 100%....I don't.

Rumor has it Kerry : might have a roll in the new administration and Ted isn't too good plus there's open seats in both Illinois and Delaware

Let's stop with the "Hitler s**t..." Please! We're all tired of it. Enough, seriously.
I myself have refrained from using that one infamous persons name. But, I digress - it appears to me that only the most infamous leaders in the past century have stated the need to have another army for National purposes that is just as well funded as our armed services! Now lets think about it: what is wrong with our National Guard, what is wrong with the Peace Corps? What's wrong with the Coast Guard? What's wrong with the police and/or what wrong with having more police? Why can't they be used instead? If the problem is that they don't have enough people - then let's get more people to join those forces for National purposes. It just seems strange to me - why we need a different group - when we already have enough!

I agree that the electoral college should be abolished. But, now the campaigns are structured to win the electoral college not the popular vote. Believe me, if the election was decided by the popular vote Obamas stellar campaign would have campaigned in every state. Just as in the primary his campaign was very smart to concentrate on winning state caucas. I think this is a large mandate election because that is the system we currently have.
I'll keep the electoral college thankuverymuch......there's no strong mandate, despite what the talking heads keep spouting....Clinton didn't have one, neither did Bush. Let's see what he can do. I liked russia's response.....putting more nukes in Poland If that isn't a "no we can't" message I don't know what is....

Congratulations to President-elect Obama. I worked many long hours on your campaign and expect some kind of appointment to your staff--perhaps a cabinet position would be nice.

Congrats to Senators Obama and Biden! Obama may be wise to NOT strip the senate to fill the cabinet/appointed executive positions ... he may want to leave the democratic and republican leadership in place as he may need their help there.

You can start by answering my question above. If you do, & do it well perhaps he might make a note.

......most people are democratic and not liberal or republican.......this has been and is pretty well substantiated
Actually according to C-Span it's a fifty- fifty split amoung citizens with regards to party identification being either Republican (conservative) or Democratic (liberal). The term liberal has been associated with the Dems now for many years just as the term conservative has always been associated with the Republican party.

Exactly! Did you by chance catch my previous post about the 5 basic philosophical premises?

actually...tomorrow...i'll show the actual percentage ratios...maybe it doesn't sound like c- span can tell the difference between one philosophy or another

Obama's victory was a great victory but not REALLY a landslide (although his supporters will tell you it is).. Here is a list of past elections that could be considered landslides. This election is probably closest to the Roosevelt-Parker one. But it's not like McCain was left in the single digits. Out of 118 Billion people, it was 7 Billion more that were for Obama. So 63 Obama to 56 Billion McCain.. that's still a lot of people who think Obama is the wrong choice.
The last time I looked, there weren't more than 7 billion people on Earth, let alone in the difference between Obama and McCain's popular vote. I know the B and the M are pretty close on the keyboard but three times in a row looks like a little more than carelessness. You are correct that the people's will was a lot closer than the electoral college makes out. Funny how some people only notice that when a Democrat wins - I've been saying it for years. But it's not as bad as inflating every figure by a factor of 1000.

Mark my words... Obama will in 4 years be talking about how he needs 4 more because we will be in a state of termoil after 4 years of Obama failed policies. He even sees it and hinted to it in his speech citing that maybe one term wouldn't be enough. Maybe we won't see or understand why what seems wrong is really right.. With this democratic government.. we should all be cautious. Buy guns while you can or you will be supressed by those who have them. America has just repeated history and has voted in the next iteration of Hitler. Watch the tapes of the audience Hitler mesmerized.. make the comparison.. this is no joke.

The world population is the total number of living humans on Earth at a given time. As of November 2008, the world's population is estimated to be about 6.7 billion (6,700,000,000). In line with population projections, this figure continues to grow at rates that were unprecedented before the 20th century, although the rate of growth has almost halved since its peak of 2.2% per year, which was reached in 1963. The world's population, on its current growth trajectory, is expected to reach nearly 9 billion by the year 2042. Credit: World Population

SAN FRANCISCO: It turns out that San Francisco voters didn't think naming a local sewage plant after President George W. Bush was a fitting tribute to the president ? or the plant. Voters on Tuesday rejected Measure R, which would have changed the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. More than 69 percent had voted against the idea. The measure's supporters said it was an appropriate way to memorialize the 43rd president, who they blame for a long list of national woes from the Iraq war to the slumping economy. But some critics had pointed out the name switch would have been unfair ? to the hardworking sewage plant. The White House had declined comment on the measure, but other Republicans have denounced it as childish and stupid. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/11/05/...ial-Putdown.php

Finally Dow Jones went down 5 % and Nasdaq 5.5%. In the "reaction day". Well, Wall Street doesn't like Obama very much.
The market is not down from the election (that was yesterdays upswing.) It's down because of the job market reports. Tomorrow it will be up, because Kellogg's made a profit. Friday it will be down because GM announces their "restructuring" plans. Monday it will be up because the sun is shining. Tuesday it will be down because someones wife wouldn't put out the night before... You want "Change?!?" Make the skittish fu cks on Wall Street take their sunglasses off and find a pair of balls in their pants! "Bull & Bears," indeed! :
well, I'm not a stock market expert or so.. but I read about the correlations between Obama chances and stock market and I thought it made sense. But I waited for the day after the election to finally confirm the theory. And I think it makes a lot of sense. Not just Wall Street at all. Today ALL the stock markets in the world are going down. Germany and Spain are in -5 %. And the Dow Jones is already falling again 1.6 % in just an hour (1.8 now after writing the words below :lol Europe all in red numbers, from 3 to 7.5 (when I'm writing this) http://finance.yahoo.com/intlindices?e=europe The Americas http://finance.yahoo.com/intlindices?e=americas Asia/Pacific http://finance.yahoo.com/intlindices?e=asia and the USA (everyone in red numbers) http://finance.yahoo.com/indices?e=dow_jones

I agree with the first part of your post. Zapatero did the same, presenting his first 4 years as a period not enough for what he wants to do, and Obama seems to be following Zapatero footsteps in everything. But if he is really Hitler-like America should be invading Mexico or Canada soon... or Iran...
