loose 20% liberal 20% democratic 20% republican 20% conservative 20% What are your basic philosophical inclination ratios and why? Do you even know the differences...between them?
I don't, do you know a poll or a test?

SurSteven:
ps...hitler came from a conservative party.......now, how far out in right field was he?
well, no, it was a nationalist-socialist party. So supposed to be left winged.
-
SurSteven:
actually...tomorrow...i'll show the actual percentage ratios...maybe it doesn't sound like c- span can tell the difference between one philosophy or another
I was talking about Presidential elections. The country in the past several elections has been pretty split. We don't have a prominant third party. Therefore people identify with one or the other when voting. But I understand what you are saying. Even within the two parties there are varying degrees of political philosophy - some leaning more left or right (liberal or conservative).

Do we have to stick labels on everyone? You know, I can't do the work I am truly good at, because I refuse to stick DSM-IV labels on persons. I must be an alien

I'm glad the American people finally wised up and voted for the best candidate! At least Americans learned their lesson from re-electing Bush in 2004 because they thought (paraphrase) We have to give him a second term so he can continue to guide us through this war and didn't elect McCain to continue Bush's debacle along the same path with the same policies. : Now the war becomes part of Bush's legacy of failure that future Presidents will, unfortunately, inherit along with the economic mess his failed policies created. Congratulations to President-Elect Obama and Vice President-Elect Biden

The US is Left of Center Democrats have won the popular vote in 4 of the last 5 presidential elections. Democrats have won the presidency in 3 of the last 5 presidential elections. Democrats have increased their popular vote total in 7 of the last 7 presidential elections , while Republicans have done so in just 3 elections, staying flat once, and dropping 3 times. Oh, and may I mention one more thing? President-elect Barack Obama has won more votes than any other presidential candidate in history:

Also spent more money on a campaign than any other presidential candidate in history. He did that after breaking his promise to play fair and use the same spending limits. :

Obama?s victory was elation for some other countries. Is this meant as a restoration of faith in American ideals? One cannot say yes to this notion but perhaps eventually it might appear true. There is always equality in this country, which is something that I have known for years. However, some people just want supremacy over others, contrary to the ideals of our country?s ancestors. dudette

You being an artist would understand what is meant by the concept of freeform and that of structure. The liberal arts and the rigidly regimented. I think of the democratic party as more of a mediating party and not left or right per say. Thanks, for the Halloween wishes! Hope you had a good one! I have to get back to work as my lunch hour is almost over. Love your avatar, too! Am glad you used that pic!

Obama's victory was a great victory but not REALLY a landslide (although his supporters will tell you it is).. Here is a list of past elections that could be considered landslides. This election is probably closest to the Roosevelt-Parker one. But it's not like McCain was left in the single digits. Out of 118 Billion people, it was 7 Billion more that were for Obama. So 63 Obama to 56 Billion McCain.. that's still a lot of people who think Obama is the wrong choice.
The last time I looked, there weren't more than 7 billion people on Earth, let alone in the difference between Obama and McCain's popular vote. I know the B and the M are pretty close on the keyboard but three times in a row looks like a little more than carelessness. You are correct that the people's will was a lot closer than the electoral college makes out. Funny how some people only notice that when a Democrat wins - I've been saying it for years. But it's not as bad as inflating every figure by a factor of 1000.
That's too funny!

Read this someplace else:
Obama's first appointment is Bill Ayers Director of Homeland Security. Obama's second appointment is Tony Rezko Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Obama announces Ray Nagin as Director of FEMA. Obama says you're doing a heck of a job Ray. Obama announces his economics advisor Franklin Raines and former Fannie Mae exec will be head of the Securities and Exchange Commission Obama announces Michael Moore will head up the Department of Health and Human Services.
Emanuel appointment was in there too. I thought it was part of the joke. Maybe non of it is. What did he say again about unity and bi-partisanship? Well, that lasted less than 24 hours!!!!
Thanks for sharing this

The only thing I argue against here is that when it came to the actual number of votes, this was a close race...however, because we work on an electoral system, the final results were a landslide. This makes me feel like my vote means nothing.
I've been saying this for a long time. Nice to see that someone gets it. The electoral college is a gross distortion of the people's will. There was no landslide. Obama's mandate is slim.
Actually the electoral college allows a small, less populated state like Rhode Island or Delaware have the same status as a NYor California. And as someone else mentioned, this was not a landslide and there is no real mandate. Had to laugh about the comparison to Reagan's election....not even close Glad to see happy people around....I wish him luck ....he'll need it. Someone back a few pages accused me of being a democrat Not in the slightest....while I appreciate and understand the POV, that doesn't mean I subscribe 100%....I don't.
Hi Jaipur, I've seen your POV's for years and can't tell if you're a Democrat, Republican, or no Party affiliation at all. That's actually a good thing. Now that the election is over how about telling us who you voted for and why. You're right about the purpose of the e.c. Even the founders said it was to keep small states from being swallowed up by bigger states. And while the Congressional representation is based upon the population of each state the Senate allows for two Senators per state. Small states like Rhode Island have equality with big states like California. In presidential elections smaller states like Ohio often decide an election. In states like N.Y. and Cal. neither candidate spends much time or money because Reps can't win and Dems can't lose, most times. But the candidates once every four years go chasing people in the mountains who often impact or determine the outcome. Dumping the e.c. would be a disaster for the country because politicians would campaign in the most densely populated areas and the people in rural areas would truly become second class citizens paying taxes without representation.
