My first ever U2 concert!
You will not regret that decision. I've seen U2 live on every one of their last 5 tours, they love re-inventing their stage show each outing - they have a designer called Willie Williams who has turned up trumps for them since 1982. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Williams_(lighting_designer) Even disregarding the music, the staging and the band interaction with the various elements of the set add an extra dimension to every show. This particular staging was a simple economic choice - a 360 staging allows the sale of up to 30% more of a venue's seating capacity - more money - more fans - more atmosphere I always leave the shows thinking "How can they top that next time?" yet they seem to do just that each time round. Have a great time - and post back here after the event. Good Luck to everybody pitching for tickets today - do not be frightened by the "rear view" seats - they are closer to the stage, the cylindrical video screen and sound system keeps you fully engaged - and the upper tiers are priced at the basic level. I know, having spent one show watching from that location. Martin

Yes it was watching the Rose Bowl concert that convinced me I wanted to see them. I did think about going to the Rose Bowl show but I knew it was going to be huge, so I did not go and join that crowd of 96,000. But when they announced the new shows next year and I saw it was Angel Stadium (where I also saw Paul) I decided to try for it on Monday. I was lucky to get a ticket first time around. Yeah I'm excited...I'll make a day of it, go to Downtown Disney before or something.

U2 have been announced as the headliner act for the 2010 Glastonbury festival. Fans of the festival have always had U2 at the top of their wish list, and Michael Eavis has tried to get them almost since the festival started. The "Main" night of the festival will switch to the Friday night to accomodate them as they fly briefly back from the US between concerts - and return to a concert in the US on the Saturday night. They leave the Claw back in the US and perform their set on the famous Pyramid stage. So it will be an unique show and I'm sure they will conjour up a fantastic sound and light show to match the occasion. Tickets were long sold out before the artist roster was announced meaning the venue will have it's usual eclectic mix of fans - and now U2 fans in the UK will be scrabbling to find some kind of workround to attend - very difficult as tickets are security ID's with embedded photographs to prevent touting and resale. Thoughts go out to Bono recovering from emergency spinal surgery after an unexplained injury rehearsing for the up-coming US leg of the 360 Tour. Also to all those whose plans are thrown up in the air while we wait to learn news of how this will impact immediate concerts including their intended first appearance at Glastonbury. Their manager has announced that formal updates of the news, Bono's progress and concert arrangements will be posted on their band web-site www.U2.com Martin Update - the first concert due June 3rd Salt Lake City has been postponed. Ticketholders have been told to retain tickets and await news of proposals for this venue - not sure yet if it will be refunds or a reschedule...
-
Ouch! Sorry to hear about the postponement, SLC fans! Hope they come up with a date that suits you all. The good news is, Paul is coming to SLC as well so maybe that helps a little I'm gonna see the 360 show again in Brussels, Sept. Saw them last year in the Amsterdam Arena, the show was great but the acoustics in the Arena are horrible. Could hardly hear what he said in between songs. So we're gonna give it another try. But first Paul in June

Sadly U2 have had to pull out of headlining this year's Glastonbury due to Bono's surgery - http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/u2-pull-out-of-glastonbury-after-bono-operation-1982464.html I had my doubts as to whether Bono could recover from such major surgery in such a short time before the Glastonbury weekend. Organisers say it's too early to talk about a replacement, but I notice one of the Beatles is free that night....

The 16 dates of the North American leg of their 2010 tour is now officially postponed until 2011. We were to attend two of those concerts. Sending out heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Bono for a full recovery.

I just listened to a reorded message from Edge, and he promises new material played live when they return.

Paul will not be stepping in for U2 at Glastonbury. Gorillaz have been announced. Martin

I'm really curious. What do you pay for a ticket, a seat, to see U2 in the States? I noticed a ticket for Paul is much, much more expensive in the States than it is over here (=Europe). I'm wondering if this is just Paul or if you pay a lot more for all bands.

They charged $250 for the "best" seats. General admission was like $50. Of course, Tickemaster adds on fees so a $250 ticket costs closer to $270 or $280 US.

U2 360 Tour ticket prices for Philadelphia and New York were $30., $55., $95. and $250. not including fees.

I sure wish they'd announce the rescheduled dates for the postponed shows. They're saying 2011! That's a long time to wait.
-
If I remember correctly the "claws" had to be brought over here on three or four ships. A small army of trucks was needed to transport the various pieces around the country. Then there is availability of venues. A rescheduling nightmare.

I saw U2 at Soldier Field in Chicago, during their last 360tour. that was a tremendous show, what a stage! I'd never seen ANYTHING like that. with the crazy screen that breaks apart!.. and how Bono worked that cool light mic, that was sweet. and I like how the bandcan literally roam off to different parts of the stage to rock out right in front of poeple! such a fun show.. did I hear them playing Blackbird at one point? or was it another Beatles song I heard? memory very hazy from that show

A snippet of Blackbird was performed at the New York (East Rutherford) concert.

Yeah go on rub it in... guess now I can't read this thread...Spoiler! Just Kidding!... I love it when Bono says "we've got a Spaceship" in the Rose Bowl 360 DVD. They're the only band I can think of nowadays that could make something that outrageous and pull it off to where it doesn't seem totally pretentious and ridiculous. It actually makes sense and it's pretty cool. It totally raises the bar for excess in concert production. It's like The Beatles putting out Sgt. Pepper's in '67 and saying "Take that World!"
