The Official U2 Thread!

Thanks for the replys. It looks interesting enough to justify a purchase, if I have any money left from SMiLE. Has anyone purchased the uber-deluxe edition? Looks a little over the top.

I received a promo e-mail today with links that take me here: Five Physical Formats Achtung Baby This scouring of archives and remastering anniversary editions seems to be the stock in trade of the music industry now. Besides Paul, I get e-mails about the Pink Floyd reissues and now U2. It does seem in this day of universal illegal downloading that bands/artists are increasingly having to mine the goodwill of true fans to make a profit - and they have to resort to repackaging and re-releasing old albums along with related unreleased material to make that work. For it is only the true dedicated fans that are willing to pay the premium prices for the physical products themselves. Martin

The nice thing about these reissues, McCartney, Floyd, The Who, U2, is that they are really worth getting. These are some fantastic sets!

As of right now the only box set of the upcoming releases I'm getting will be Quadrophenia. Those demos are like gold to me. But if I can, I would like the deluxe Achtung Baby with the demos.

Hmmm... not quite enough through traffic or familiarity with the album to make this one work, I'd guess. A shame. Not sure if Achtung Baby would do better. I still love that album, even if I've grown a bit bored of U2's more recent stuff.
No Line on the Horizon has about 6 good songs, tracks 1,2,3,5,7,11. ATYCLB I like the most of it and haven't heard Atomic Bomb yet.
Well, the only track I really liked on No Line on the Horizon was track 9 (White As Snow) I'm afraid! And that's probably largely because I already knew the tune, from a favourite Christmas carol (O Come O Come Emmanuel). The others just sounded a bit samey. Maybe getting into Beatles/Macca and appreciating their massive versatility has ruined me for bands that only have one basic sound. I think Bono's vocal style and image have started to irritate me a little. Probably more to the point, he doesn't seem to be saying as much in his lyrics as he used to. But it may well just be me. I also loved All That You Can't Leave Behind, and Atomic Bomb was pretty good too, though not AS good. Achtung Baby is my favourite.

I get what you mean. Stand Up Comedy was the standout track for me on the album plus Magnificent. The others grew on me. And Achtung Baby is also my fav. Are you getting the remaster next month?
