However it was explained that DLF.tv had hoped to stream the concert live before hitting the perennial issue of securing all the necessary music performing rights approvals.
I hate the music business sometimes... but doesn't Paul own most of his songs? Excluding those of The Beatles, of course...
Yes he does. He's not he only performer in the show and they probably own their music too.

HopeOlszewski:
today has been so disapointing knowing Paul is less then an hour away and I can't even see him =(
Tell me about it - I had to make a choice with this show as well...But I don't regret the choice I made one bit. I'm trying to get accepted into a health field program at college and needed a Saturday course this semester...So that left no time for me to get from BOS to NY.

Just got back. Great evening - starting a little after 7:30 and ending at 11:30. Upper crust crowd, as you might expect, given the cost of tickets. Nice souveniers available - special event T-shirts and posters. Sound was mixed very oddly, with vocals way up front, and bass and drums very low in the mix -- I suspect that there was a decision to keep the volume low given the nature of the crowd. First half was nicely paced, highlighted by a nice version of "My Sweet Lord" by Sheryl Crow, and closing with Ben Harper & the Relentless 7 with Eddie Vedder doing Queen's "Under Pressure". The first part of the Second half suffered a little with Donovan and Paul Horn having to work against an audience clearly on edge, waiting for Paul and Ringo. Overall, it was well-paced for a charity gig. No unbearable delays - Jerry Seinfeld did a set that was very well received (not funny to me, but most people seemed to love it); Mike Love spoke about TM and the objective of the Foundation and got teary eyed; Laura Dern was saddled with the task of filling in the dead spots while the set changes took place and she did a decent job by hosting mock "Q&A" sessions with Lynch, although it's clearly not an easy task. Howard Stern said some nice words about TM, and then Sheryl introduced Ringo, who played a three-song solo set. He was in good voice, and the highlight was clearly "Boys" which he played from behind the drums. After a set change that seemed to take ages, Paul took the stage with his regular band (Abe on drums), and played a nice tight set. Including encores, I think it was around 1 hour and 15 minutes or so. For long-time concert-goers, it might have been a little disappointing to hear mostly concert staples, but he looked and sounded great. With a collarless dark jacket and white shirt, holding the Hofner bass, he looked like Paul circa 1964. I was a little concerned after the first three numbers that he would end the set there, but he moved to the piano for a very effective Let It Be. The acoustic numbers were very effective, although most hard core fans have heard them a number of times -- Here Today being particularly moving. The acoustic numbers were nice, as fans who had been enthusiastically singing along respectfully stopped, allowing Paul's voice to resonate through the large hall. Of course, the highlight was Paul welcoming Ringo to the stage, where they shared the mike for "With a Little Help From My Friends". Absolutely magical moment. For the encore, Paul played "Cosmically Conscious" which he wrote in India with Ringo and Abe on the drums (Abe playing straight up in deference to Ringo), was nice - - never would have guessed that he would do that. And the finale of "I Saw Her Standing There" was great (Ringo on Drums). Terrific Night. Ringo (w/Ben Harper & his Band and Eddie Vedder) It Don't Come Easy Boys Yellow Submarine Paul Drive My Car Jet Got to Get You Into My Life Let It Be Lady Madonna Blackbird Here Today Band on the Run Can't Buy Me Love With a Little Help From My Friends Encore Cosmically Conscious I Saw Her Standing There

Paul looks fantastic!!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM IN VEGAS!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh! What a fantastic show. I'm still glowing. Everybody was great. They had quite a bit of introduction to TM, which I enjoyed. They showed a little film before Donovan came out and did a few. There were many more performers than the five or so headliners. And so that you can have instant gratification, yes, Paul and Ringo sang together.. at the same mic, (Little Help from my friends... Paul introduced him as Billy Shears). Ringo played drums and sang (Boys) and I think also on a couple of encores. I can't remember absolutely all the songs so if I miss some, please help me out. Ringo started with (this is embarrassing) either Photograph or It Don't Come Easy ... after Paul came out my recollection of Ringo got blurry. He did Yellow Submarine as well. They showed this amazing video of the Beatles, Donovan, Mike Love, Paul Horn and the rest in Rishikesh which I'd never seen, not even in the TM movements' many tapes. They used Paul Salzman's pictures of the Beatles in Rishikesh as backdrops towards the end as well. Paul started with Jet. I think he did 10 or 11 songs. Not in this order - Band on the Run, Lady Madonna, (Let it Be?), Blackbird (with a nod to Obama), Here Today (nod to John) (others were nodding to George - Sheryl Crowe did My Sweet Lord; Donovan and Ringo mentioned George's influences). I saw her standing there. Can't buy me love, Drive My car... and ended with a song I'd never heard. Cosmically conscious (it's such a joy) which was the final song with everybody on the stage - Paul on bass, Ringo on drums.) At the end Paul hugged everybody individually. He also played all his songs with his current band. In the first set Jerry Seinfeld came out and did a comedy routine. He has been meditating 37 years! Jeez! I'm going on 36 years and he's younger than me. He had to have started as a child. Howard Stern came out in the second half saying how TM saved his mother, and she encouraged him to start. I took hundreds of pictures. I got lots of smiles. I've GOT to get these up online... tomorrow, since my knee surgery is Monday.

Thanks for the early reviews Let's have all your stories - all that you're willing to share, your journeys, the build up, the show, the memorabilia the buzz afterwards etc etc the more we read the more we draw from it. www.dlf.tv is now repeating the web-cast prior to the show, it focusses mainly on the Foundation's work and the role of their new web-site in promoting that. There are brief pre-recorded interviews with artists, Sheryl Crow, Ringo and Paul. Ringo is at 23.30 min into part 1 Paul is at 17.55 min into part 2 Nothing else on the site at the moment. Looking forward to our new pm.com blogger posting a review of events on Paul's main web-site. Perhaps even a video clip there.... ? Here's hoping. Martin

The web-cast is closing prior to the show. They did however confirm that David Lynch himself is producing a documentary of the show for future broadcast/dvd release.

My review? It?s half past two in the morning so I?m a bit out of it, but I thought I?d tell you guys what I thought of the show before I head off to sleep, exhausted, but very very happy? I?m going to skip the first two hours of it and get to the part we were all most interested in! Ringo was introduced amidst much fanfare, and he did It Don?t Come Easy, Boys, and Yellow Submarine. All 3 of them went down very well. Paul was amazing! I mean it! This was by far his best performance of the decade! He and the band just seemed to give it 110%! Everything had a little more to it. It?s very hard to remember, but so many of the songs they?ve done so often had little changes here and there, a slightly different guitar riff, heavier drumming, etc. And through it all, Paul sang his heart out! He was more forceful and in the finest form in so many years! It was amazing! The beginning of his performance was quite predictable, though I was surprised that he opened with Drive My Car! Everyone so far had been trying to do mainly topical songs around the general meditation, peace, and quiet, but Paul opened with this solid, fun rocker! Amazingly, Jet was once again the second song! (How does that always happen?) I love this song and I truly loved it tonight! What a rocker! Got to Get You into My Life came next, and this too, just somehow had more than I remember seeing live before. The singing was fuller and the band was tighter than even usual. And then Paul moved over to the piano and gave us yet another masterful version of the amazing Let it Be. I will never be one of the folks who hopes he retires this song, no matter how often he plays it. IMO this is truly one of the greatest songs in modern music and to hear its simple message and gorgeous melody sung by the same fellow that wrote it still chills the spine! After a typically fun and crowd pleasing Lady Madonna, Paul then returned to the center and the band left the stage. He then introduced Blackbird by talking about the civil rights movement and how much had changed. He notes that Obama is now the president and everyone went wild! You know, this really was his best version of this song. I thought it was masterful when he revived it in 2002 but his voice was so much stronger here. And then, after telling us about how he and John both loved New York, he did Here Today. What can you say except be grateful that he lets his audience in on the moment? Band on the Run! Oh, maybe it was the few years since I last saw Paul live, but this song too seemed an especially good version! When Paul next introduced Ringo, the crowd went WILD! The entire night had clearly been building up to this, and there was no letting up of the excitement. Paul welcomed ?the original Billy Shears himself? and the band launched into With a Little Help From My Friends, and Ringo ran on stage. Seeing the two of them, standing side by side, singing together?oh what a sight! I almost couldn?t enjoy the song, being just transfixed by the sight of these two. Finally the singer sings the song with the man who wrote it! It took 42 years but it finally happened! Of course, the symbolism of it being this song that they chose to do was not lost; the entire audience just had this good feeling as we all sang along to the two men who happened to be two Beatles doing this iconic song from the most iconic of albums in rock history! Can?t Buy Me Love was AWESOME! No, it was better than awesome! What a way for Paul to suddenly take us back to the earlier days?It was a raucous of a performance (in the nicest way) and received a thunderous reception. Everyone around me was dancing in the aisles! This was to be their last song but, of course, they returned for the encore. I?m a little glad I snuck a peak at the board before the show because I think I needed to be prepared for the shock! Who would have ever thought we?d hear Cosmically Conscious live? After telling us he wrote it in India, Paul and band launched into the song. All the other performers joined Paul on stage and this simple little song made for the most amazing sing-along! Over and over again, the 45 seconds at the end of Off the Ground made for such a great closing! Such a joy joy, such a joy joy! What a treat to hear! Coming on the heels of With a Little Help From My Friends, it was so amazing to hear this second gem as well. And then Paul closed with an awesome version of I Saw Her Standing There. It was just so clear why everyone there had been so psyched all through the evening about Paul?s performance. All through the show, there were references to Paul and the Beatles, and every time, you could feel the sense of anticipation growing. And with this last song, it all just broke loose, everyone singing along, truly enjoying a great song. If we ever need reminder that Paul is the most famous musician in the world, this concert made it quite clear. This was Paul, the one and only! It was a shockingly amazing performance!

OK, let's see, more brain dump (it's almost 3am!). I spent this morning upgrading my ticket. Rushed up to the north Bronx to get the eBay ticket I'd bought yesterday and then down to Chelsea to sell my worse ticket. I'm glad I did since I ended up within reasonable photo range. What a nervewracking experience. You either think that no one will buy your ticket or you are besieged by 10 phone calls. Getting a camera in the venue is always an exciting prospect! Though they made announcements, I didn't see anyone getting shut down. I saw and heard Plenty of bad behavior. One person was pitched out by security for disorderly conduct. A few people behind me were talking and sighing and sniggering at the TM stuff. One of these had been at the "wares" table buying stuff before me. Her bill came to over $1600. !!! I was right in front of the register. Go figure! Then there was the person beside me who also was disrespectful and was jumping around in her seat so much it made holding still for telephoto photos just a bit challenging. I went to the "wares" table. Most was Macca shirts (4 styles) #35 and 40 each (I got a white one and a black one) with that picture of Paul with his pointed finger arm held high that we see everywhere. There were 2 posters. One (in red and in blue) was $100, which I expect was in part to help out the foundation. The other was a photographic print (large) of the pic of Paul with the raised hand with the older pic of Paul and Ringo behind. $60. There were a couple of Donovan's books for sale there $35.. I didn't see anything from Ringo. People were clearly there to see Paul and so it's good that Paul did not disappoint. I must say, I do like Paul in suspenders. Rusty was having the Best Time. I have him smiling from ear to ear in many photos. I'm thinking this concert could be viewed by history something like the Bangladesh concert. I've been in touch with those involved with this at DLF and they say they are just getting started with concerts. After the show there were TM volunteers handing out cards about starting TM (I got the email a few days ago asking for volunteers). I'm really hoping that this gives the TM movement a real kick start again. I learned in part because of the Beatles (though I'd seen Maharishi on the Edwin Newman show back in spring '73 and that's what decided me). The whole thing just brings back the good old days of the 1970s when I'd just learned TM and everything was so groovy (if I can be as archaic as that). I'd met John Hagelin (the physicist, head of Natural Law Party and head of DLF) when we were both students at Dartmouth in '75, and though I've seen him in 'movement' videos a lot, it's been a while since I've seen him in the flesh. They gave out this glossy, large format program to everyone on the way in. Lots of photos. I picked up quite a few extras on the way out...

Thank you for sharing your experiences, everybody! I really wish I could have been there to see Paul and Ringo performing together! Ringo has always said he would never perform Beatles songs with Paul... I wonder what changed his mind? (I'm glad he did!!!)
