The ..2012.... Political thread

Sharon Angles (tea partier) is asking for Harry Reid to be.... assassinated. Basically saying that IF congress doesn't change we might have to exercise our 2nd amendment. Which mean the right to bear arms. and the right wing nuts are worried about a joke made by a rock star.

So what do you think of Joe Barton remarks..He apologized to a British company for destroying our gulf and apologized for them having to put up 22 billion dollars in a escrow account.. 22 billion was appx 1/4 earning for BP for the year. I thinking we need a claw back clause with BP and take all profits for the last 10 years.
Actually they made 6.1 billion during the first quarter of 2010. I don't think they've ever come close to making 22 billion in a quarter.

I think using the Dixie Chicks is a better description of how American really don't believe in Freedom of Speech.. Or the Tea Partier screaming down citizen who opposed there views on health care reform.
But they ARE for certain kinds of "freedoms"! Their pick for Kentucky's Republican senator is proof enough. They want the "freedom" to be racist. Time after time, we see example after example of what it is these people believe and want. They benefit from government subsidized health coverage but scream in fury because Rush Limbaugh tells them "welfare queens" (ie black women) are profiting. They benefit from immigrants, including non-documented workers (every study not by these racist, ignorant people demonstrates that non-documented workers raise the wages of citizens, which of course why neither party is much interested in stopping it), but they can't bare the thought that people from Mexico may, just may, be getting by. The scream about big government (look at silly posts on this thread!) but want to keep on growing the biggest parts of government in the military. They say they're for freedom and competition but support policies that have allowed gigantic corporations to become what they are. Every damn Tea Partier (who is just the more ideological version of the average Republican) wants "freedom". It's just a kind of freedom, to perpetuate inequality, to let the true welfare queens in big corporations off the hook, to make their best effort and maintaining the hierarchy of races in the US. I just wish they'd stop pretending. Be proud of the freedoms you want Republicans and Tea Partiers!
What I see in people who I know who support the tea party/ Rep by any other name. They seem to be followers. So what would they do with this so called freedom. We make our own prison in life. You can be free and not do anything about it. Open up a bird cage when the bird grew up in the cage.. They won't fly away they don't know anything different.. It comfortable to be a certain way and not change. The average person screaming freedom..support cops and support giving them more power. They go to a church and are told how to think, how to vote, how to live. They never speak up to authority, never have a true opinion. One of these tea party type friends told me. Your too political you need to stop talking about politics so much. They voted in GWB.. Do you know where that same person is today? Filing bankruptcy and getting a divorce. Two things that someone who a true Rep wouldn't do. There party is the party of family and responsibility. They do everything right we do everything wrong.. This person brags how oh its the economy why I filing bankruptcy.. No accountability at all for there action.. Blames Obama. Tea Partier works for the other guy and than like fools supports corp powers. Until there jobs are downsized. Than there all poor me. It like government has almost taken people who do speak up and make us like trouble makers. We such a minority today..You can't even find agency to complain to about things that are unfair in business. BBB is a joke it does nothing to help resolve a problem. Ombudsman office are closed up most places. They attorney General.. Joke. It not our dept call here there and everywhere. If you not a lawyer in this country.. Try and get any kind of change where government is making money off of it.. There no where to go but court and there part of the government. This is where we need the most change. To suggest freedom is the answer.. in a country that has turned into many monopolies if not for government control who is going to protect the little guy. Actually what we need in this country is Ralph Nader being put back in charge of the Consumer protection agency. We have none now. We need a voice in government that scares the bageebees out of any company that is fingered by them.

So they closed the McCartney insulting Bush board and redirected them here. I was wondering what took them so long. Hopefully the people who got so insulted just go away..we all know there part of the same crowd that buses themselves into towns trying to get the Dem unseated in every election. You guys are so organized and you not kidding anyone..burn Paul records. Yea big talk considering you don't own any.
It seems unlikely that this will just die out...
If no one responds to you it will die out because you will just be debating yourself. We all support Paul here. Bush was an a..hole and he's no longer in office so get over it. Good riddance.
I don't care for his replacement either .... That being said .... his words won't stop me from listening to Paul's music and going to his concerts when and if at all ever possible (and enjoying every minute of the show )
I love his replacement but fully expect to hear jokes about his Presidency. No human is above reproach. Unfortunately the only jokes that are being said are ones that most of us wouldn't even say about President Dumbass, calling him Hitler and now Babykiller. Those are the only things that are uncalled for. This was, for many - not me, a how dare he moment but for them they can't move on. Life did not change. The world as we know it is still, temporarily, here. Again, I have to ask those that felt insulted by the comment "What are you so afraid of?" I've asked this a number of times but no one has had the guts to try to come up with an answer.
This is kind of amusing. I just remarked that I didn't think that the cotroversy was going to die out. I didn't say anything about who was right or wrong. And the responses have all been defensive of Paul and in one case abusive towards George Bush. Nobody from the other side has commented. Why are you being so sensitive?
Who's being sensitive? We're not so much defending Paul but defending his right to say what he said. I am simply asking the ones that were offended, what are they so afraid of?

Sorry -- maybe i didn't make my point clearly. There's no way that BP makes $88 billion a year. They only made $6.1 billion in the first quarter. I'm sure in a normal year they probably make about four times that, not anywhere near $88 billion.

The president's failure to turn things around Tuesday night (June 15th) with a speech damaged his reputation as a man whose rhetorical powers are such that he can turn things around with a speech. ... MSNBC's Keith Olbermann famously said "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days." Chris Matthews scored "a lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk." Mr. Olbermann, on Mr. Obama's well-written peroration: "It's nice but, again, how? Where was the 'how' in this speech when the nation is crying out for 'how'?" http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704289504575313181930072638.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLTopStories Chris Matthews didn't feel a tingle go up his leg

Here is a review of the 4th quarter (ended December 2009) announced in February 2010: Integrated oil and natural gas BP (BP) Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings per share of $1.10, well below the Thomson/Reuters First Call consensus estimate of $1.51. The global energy giant also said it sees a "slow and gradual" recovery from the recession. For all of 2009, BP earned $4.47 per share, below the Thomson/Reuters First Call estimate of $4.73. By comparison, in last year's fourth quarter, BP earned 84 cents per share, and for all of 2008 it earned $8.17 per share. BP posted fourth-quarter revenue of $73.6 billion compared to the Thomson/Reuters First Cal estimate of $56.3 billion. Full-year 2009 revenue totaled $246.1 billion versus the consensus estimate of $234.6 billion. BP's shares sold off in early London trading Tuesday on the news, falling about 5%, or 28.40 pence, to 566.20 pence. See full article from DailyFinance: http://srph.it/98P4xJ btw there is difference between revenue (shown here) and net income (after taxes, expenses, interest on debt, etc). Usually people refer to what a company makes as net income (not shown here)

I stand corrected THEY EARNED 240+ BILLION I sure that was down from the good old Bush years.. Is my point CLEAR? These companies have ways of diverting profits to make themselves look like their making less than what they are.. If the public knew what they were profiting off them after they screamed that it was lack of oil production driving cost up. I think the government would be forced to go back to the Carter days when oil profits were controlled. Bp to Borrow 50 million from banks to pay for oil spill. So if they file bankruptcy than does that mean Obama bails the bank out? Or is some bank owing a bunch of money back to gov so loan more to BP than when they fail you get two excuses for the price of one. the corruption just never stops. Goldman Sachs sold 48% of there stock days before spill. How lucky was that!
-
I have to correct you on this point. Earnings are not the same thing as revenues. They are the same thing as net income. BP's earnings were not $240+ billion, they were $20.8 billion, if i'm reading the financial figures presented in oobu24's email correctly.

I am simply asking the ones that were offended, what are they so afraid of? I don't think people are afraid of anything Paul said. I think some people (calmly and rationally) merely stated that Paul picked the wrong time and place to insult a former President. But somehow that has made us "right wing nut-jobs" or "Tea partiers" or "people with agendas" or in even more extreme cases called "racists" I was a Paul fan long before he made his rude and classless statement. I will still be a Paul fan for the rest of my life I imagine. But I have a right to be offended. I have a right to believe the statement showed a lack of class and a lack of respect for the country and office that was honoring him. Had he made the same joke/insult in a different place at a different time I would NOT have cared. And had he made a similar insult against ANY current or former President I would have been just as offended. For those of you with your political blinders on you will never understand that so I guess you will just keep making your responses and replies directed at topics that the majority of upset fans NEVER felt or stated. It's a shame when people can't just see right vs wrong instead of basing their reaction on which side of the political fence the insult was hurled.

Tally, we've moved on from that discussion. The question I have been asking "What are you afraid of?" isn't based solely on what joke Paul made. If we can't joke about ourselves (in this case our gov't) than what are you afraid of? So the next time I hear an Obama joke of any kind I will say that it is classless and distasteful no matter who it comes from. BTW, Palin does some pretty classless commentary as does Limbaugh and Beck. O'Reilly has been in a class by himself but is slowly being pushed out by these guys. Pay attention, the matter of discussion has totally changed.

LOL Palin.......Limbaugh.......Beck.....O'Reilly 4 people who NEVER insulted a former President while being honored at the White House by the current President. As well as a comparison to any Obama joke being made by anyone at anytime. THANK YOU for proving my point about political blinders and how so many forum members can TOTALLY misinterpret a clearly written post. I sorry I must of missed something. Palin was honored at what white house function? Or any of these wing nuts you mentioned. You have to be worthy of being honored so whats your point? I don't think being a "babble head" qualifies you for much.
