"beatle-esque" songs by different bands

Gilbert O'Sullivan sounds a lot like Paul McCartney, his voice: Claire
Thanks for posting this - I'm stuck on the song Claire, haven't heard it for years and never remembered it as being so good musically As a musician, I'm really impressed I think I'm listening to it for the third time in a row
I'm pretty sure it's called "Clair". Gilbert O'Sullivan was twee and annoying. I guess some people think of Paul in that way, but in the twee and annoying stakes, Paul has nothing on Gilbert.

Gilbert O'Sullivan sounds a lot like Paul McCartney, his voice: Alone Again
Get Down Claire Also I don't like this song very much, I think that Kaiser Chiefs "Ruby" sounds a bit like Beatles:No, no, no, no.
What's wrong? Edit: Ah, I see your comment above now. I think Gilbert's songs are okay, but of course not as good as Pauls. But I really think that his voice sounds like Pauls voice, thats the main reason I mentioned him.

don't know if it's been mentioned already but the song The Way by Fastball always sounded a little Beatley to me.
And About A Girl By Nirvana for sure. Kurt admitted to trying to write a Beatles song with that one. He did a great jobI really don't agree with either of those songs being "Beatley". I remember liking Fastball's "The Way" when it was released... until I realised that it was a complete rip-off of Tom Jones' "Delilah"! As for "About A Girl", Kurt may have been a big Beatles fan, but his style and usage of chords on that song were not, in any way, reminiscent of The Beatles. It's a fantastic track, though, one of my favourites.
point taken something about About a Girl sounds early Beatle to me. thinking about chord structure, sort of reminiscent of I Should Have Known Better? I don't know why I chose The Way.. perhaps its sounds more like it could have been a McCartney tune now that I think about it. and the way the guitar solo is played or whatnot. thinking back to Nirvana, I was listening to McCartney's Driving Rain and heard House of Wax, and found certian parts really reminiscent musically (not in terms of production) of Nirvana's Something In The Way. It's eerily similar in the House of Wax line underneath the wall and the underneath the bridge bit from Something In The Way.

May not be " Beatley" but the title sounds like a McCartney tune that was just released! "I wanna go home"

When I was a kid, my best friend and I laughed at The Dream Academy's '60s clothing gear, although we loved their song "Life In A Northern Town" -- which reeks of John Lennon, and mentions Te Beatles by name in its lyrics. DREAM ACADEMY - "LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN":
Interestingly enough, The chorus of The Fireman's "Sun Is Shining" -- a song I love -- has a part that reminds me tremendously of "Life In A Northern Town." THE FIREMAN - "SUN IS SHINING": (listen to 2:03) -

Billy Joels' album Nylon Curtain sounds like a lost Beatles album, an homage to them. I always thought My Life sounded like a McCartney song.
Thanks for mentioning Billy Joel. A song that he did on his 1980 "Glass Houses" album, as a matter of fact, the last song entitled "Through The Long Night" sounds like it could have been a Lennon/McCartney song, particularly the Paul part of the equation. I could easily imagine Paul singing this song.
I thought I was the only person on this Earth that liked "Through The Long Night." It was the B-side to "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me," and I played it more than side-A.

Just listening to the new Ocean colour scene lp , and i thought this had a Macca feel to it

I love Through the Long Night! And yes Nylon Curtain is definitely Beatles influenced. It was Billy's first album after John's death, so I guess it was a tribute in some way. "Scandinavian Skies" is very trippy and very Sgt Peppery. "Surprises" is another Beatles influenced song on that album.

Others have mentioned Sowing the Seeds of Love by Tears for Fears. Here's another Beatley one from their great reunion album "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending". It's called "Call Me Mellow". Here they are performing it on Ellen:
and on Conan: -
Go All the Way by The Raspberries. They have a "Come on, come on" chorus that is reminiscent of "Please Please Me." My mother pointed this out recently.

I like that!

Maybe this has been posted before, but what about Sowing The Seeds of Love by Tears For Fears?

This seems a perfect place to post this - an ELO/Oasis mash-up that sounds a bit like Free As A Bird (produced of course by ELO's Jeff Lynne). Telephone Line versus Wonderwall - works together perfectly! ELO vs Oasis - ELOASIS -
-
Maybe "It's Working" from MGMTs new album? A psychadelic album from start to finish (as was their first album). Paul McCartney is a fan of them too! Also, Fyfe Dangerfield's "She Needs Me" and "When You Walk In The Room" both have a McCartney sound to them (especially in terms of bass lines and production).

The song "I Get Along' by the Pet Shop Boys from their album "Release" has a very Beatle feel to it. Enjoy the music.

My Little Pony - Song For You (On Your 40th Birthday)
It even mentions the Beatles, and Sgt. Pepper. More than once. -
Dr. Dog - We All Belong, sounds like something from Abbey Road, like someone in the comments below the video said
Franz Ferdinand - Eleanor Put Your Boots On, also very Beatles. -
I went to see OASIS one day and liked the support act much better: The Seahorses. They have done only one album unfortunately. It has a bit of a 90s version of Revolver sound. Great Songs, great guitar. Check it out on youtube

The Seahorses are good indeed, esp. the song 'Love is the Law'. The singer also looks like Lennon. (but Oasis are a far better band of course than Seahores)
