ah yes skippage.. the one down-side of vinyl. Thats why when buying used, vinyl quality is key. I check em out. I have purchased records that I know will play like shit, just to have the covers essentially, 'to be upgraded later'. I bought Wings greatest like that. Let Em In skips on my copy, as well as Another day I believe.. that sucks. I've found though that you really have to have a deep scratch for the player to skip though. on a whole very few of my records skip, even the scratched up ones. my copy of 'Ringo' you wouldn't even think would play by looking at it, and it never skips!! thats just the power of peace and love right there I think Lennon's I'm the Greatest, and that You're Sixteen track prevent it from skipping. too cool to skip kind of thing I think this should be merged with Plastic vinyl thread. I love talking vinyl but don't like 2 different locations. but I'll live.

btw Macs, hell yeah thats all the stuff I enjoy too, on top of the cool sounding music. the covers, the record itself and the stickers on them, and the posters and inserts. thats cool stuff to get. the 70s had all kinds of good stuff. i get the biggest kick, the solo John and Paul had quite a few 'sleeve' covers for their key albums. POB, Imagine, Mind Games all sleeve. Paul had more gatefold design (McCartney and Ram, RRS, V&M), but quite a few sleeve too (Wildlife, BOTR, London Town). why is that? does a record company do a single sleeve when they're sure it will sell regardless? my thinking being that the gatefold is to act as additional marketing for the product, to help it sell more? or does an artist have a say in whether its sleeve or gatefold? I wonder how that works, or how it used to work. these days it seems everything is a gatefold. I'd like more info on all of this
-
Kapoo A lot of work got put into the whole package back then, I couldn't say for sure if gate-fold sleeves were the order of the day to sell more of a particular album, one things for sure, some of the covers were better than the albums lol

I forgot about this thread. Today I finally received a mint copy of Nick Lowe's American Squirm b/w (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding? performed by Elvis Costello and The Attractions. American Squirm just hits it in the right place. I was planning on going out today but I might have to stay inside and play this thing.

Yeah and every clean copy I've ever seen is $20-$30, otherwise the cover box is always broken at the seams. Cheap Kiss Records hooks it up! http://www.cheapkissrecords.com/

is that when the arm just allows the record to keep running in the run out groove, and not stop and go back to start position? my cheap record player is doing that now cause I'm sure one of my kids broke it.

thats when it starts to sound static ish towards the end of the record its because the grooves get smaller towrds the end making all the song compressed smaller and tight .so theres when the stactic sound kicks in i had to look it up ; )

Cannot beat those Elvis 45's! absolute killers I cannot wait to play. no sleeves and 'well played' (which is why they weren't more expensive) but I guarantee will play just perfect to my ears! Went in there to grab that Pharcyde record Its a sweet red/blue vinyl Double LP, original 1995 press Here's one of the singles from the album, Drop. I think Spike Jonze may have directed the vid, shot by acting it all out in reverse, and then playing it backwards, pretty crazy!

I was a magazine editor in the '90s, and I recall one of their CDs getting a great review from our urban-music writer. Not my thing, but I can tell that Pharcyde was above the fray.
