You know Paul, though, I doubt he will ever drop Here Today. Like he will never drop Hey Jude.
I understand "Hey Jude" because if it is the first time you see him that is probably on your must hear list plus it is great sing along for the crowd. Even to this day, I doubt many first timers know the song "Here Today" so it would not be a big deal to them if he dedicated song like "Early Days" to John instead of "Here Today". Will he drop either one, the answer is heck no - lol.
It’s amazing to me that he has been touring as Wings and then a “solo” act with a band since the early 1970s and there are STILL people who have never seen him in concert!
I guess it depends on where you live and sometimes age. My wife and I took our daughters to see him in 2010 because they had never seen him, they were in their early 20's at the time.
Yeah, I understand that situation, but there are tons of people who are in their 40s, 50s and 60s who have never seen him. One of the surgeons I know who is my age saw him for the first time in Duluth, GA 2017! (Age 62 then) She said it was on her bucket list. Another surgeon was there the same night (she’s probably in her late 40s or so) seeing him for the first time, and she sprung for front row seat package!
I'm sorry but who cares about these people that never took the time to see him. I'm tired of Paul catering to them with his setlist. About time he played more of the songs the rest of his FANS want to hear. As I've said all along especially when he does 2 nights in one city. Do the regular show one night but the 2nd night do mostly solo songs!
except he's not looking to put work into learning another set. This is a working soundcheck, that fans are able to attend is a bonus for fans. His soundchecks are old covers, songs he has played on tour and songs currently in the set. It is all stuff he knows pretty much by heart, it's purpose is just to test all the instrument and mic sound levels in the mix not really to be a show unto itself. I don't foresee this ever happening
As a pessimist, I tend to agree with you. ️

Oh I agree that it will never happen but we are just voicing an opinion here.

Although IMO when you are charging huge money to attend your soundchecks it should be a little more than testing all instruments and sound levels in the mix. I think you owe it to these people to put a little more thought into the songs you play.

Looking back at where the 2017 setlist ended, I'd say the following have GOT to go, simply based on diminished audience response at the two shows I was lucky enough to see last year...
In Spite of All The Danger
Queenie Eye
New
Four Five Seconds
I Wanna Be Your ManNow, from the perspective of someone looking at this set who has seen the man live 14 times total, I can honestly say there are 25 songs that could be swapped with songs from an equal time period in the career, and the audience response would be equal or greater, while still making things exciting for returning fans. This also allows for the 15 songs that he seems to refuse to drop for the "first-timers". I get that and respect it, because we were all there. However, it has gotten out of hand.

I agree and don't think anybody would care if these songs were eliminated. If McCartney decided to play anything else from "New", it should be songs like "I Can Bet" or "Early Days". Some songs will naturally be cut and they will probably be solo songs to make room for songs from the upcoming album. Due to that, I doubt he will make any other major changes. Some of us have beat this subject to death and understand he really does not care about playing a bunch of his solo career songs live. Certain Beatle songs he needs to play (exp.Hey Jude) but I agree that a lot could be swapped and it still will be great show for first timers and returning fans. If he is going to add Beatle songs, why not things like "Hold Me Tight", "Rocky Racoon" or "She's A Woman".

"Come On To Me" will kill it live. This track was built for the stage. "I Don't Know" would probably come off a bit lackluster. Without hearing the rest of the record, I'm not sure he would include that one in the show. I can see the lines for the bathroom/concessions now...

Yep, I can see "Come On To Me" maybe being the 2nd song of the setlist kind of like "Save Us" was from "New". "I Don't Know" did nothing for me at first listen, maybe it will grow on me.

I think it could a little better than that...not that there is a BAD song slot, but I know the band is gonna set this one on fire and it's very easy to sing along with even if you've never heard it. I could see it replacing "Four Five Seconds" later in the set, like how "Sing The Changes" was placed later in the show when it was released.

After several listens, I’m now really hoping that I Don’t Know replaces My Valentine now

It's not really an out and out love song to Nancy, so I don't think it would replace it. I can't see it really replacing one of the tunes currently in the set. He could add it to the piano set, and maybe replace the slot that "My Valentine" holds but I think the function of a song for Nancy is something Paul would not eliminate from the set.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, I'm just thinking keeping with the tone of the whole Long & Winding Road section etc. BUt it's probably not gonna go for the reasons you said. I picture I Don't Know just fitting in better

I confess I find these set list discussions endlessly depressing. It's just us all begging for crumbs.

Those crumbs have a strange effect on the gig experience. Never thought I'd be delighted to hear Temporary Secretary but bored by Hey Jude!

I’ve been bored by Hey Jude for years. Used to adore it when it came out in 1968 when I was 13. Must have heard it at least a million times since then.

Yes, myself and a few others have beaten this subject to death and in the end know nothing will change. I guess I don't feel I am begging because I refuse to go to another one of his concerts unless there were significant changes. My main reason for even posting about this is that I want to express how sad it is some people will never hear some great McCartney music live.

I've been saying that for years too. He has so many songs that we will never hear him do live. Granted, some of them he can't sing anymore, but ther are sooooo many that he can!

Exactly. I am sure he could still sing songs like "That Was Me", "Promise To You Girl", "I Can Bet", "Early Days", "Little Willow" and "Ever Present Past" for examples.

Yep, some songs from the last 20 years!
