Sigh... the ongoing dilemma. I still dream of a show where Paul leads off with Who Cares, finishes with Beautiful Night, plays Get on the Right Thing and Despite Repeated Warnings as encores, and doesn't play any Beatles in between. But it will always be a fantasy.
Make it a little more doable & let him do 5 "signature Beatles songs". Then we can choose all the rest. We can dream about our ideal setlist but like you say, it will just be a fantasy.
The very first time Paul played in the USA (after the Beatles), that's exactly what he did...5 Beatle songs in the setlist.

And Hey Jude was NOT one of the 5!!

Hard to believe, right, Nancy! I remember back in '76 how rock critics were saying how cool it would have been for Paul to perform "Hey Jude" or "Get Back" as the very last song ...instead of Soily. I don't think anyone was disappointed with his choice!!

As strange as this may seem to people now, I did not even think about him doing Beatle songs when I saw him in 1976. I was so into the Wings music and loved it. Yes, I was thrilled to hear some great Beatle songs ("Yesterday" just blew me away that night) but it was unexpected to me.

In fairness, when he did Blackbird and Yesterday in '76, the crowd went absolutely nuts. That said, I was just looking at his recent London set list and thinking it would be so easy to make this show palatable for us hardcore fans. Just make 4 substitutions:
Let Me Roll It --> People Want Peace
Maybe I'm Amazed (which he really can't sing well anymore) --> That Was Me
In Spite Of All the Danger --> Hand in Hand
From Me to You -- The World Tonight
Bang: You have a much more interesting show that recognizes he had a career after 1976, and still gives the Beatles nostalgia-heads what they came for.

I still want to hear Take It Away and/or Silly Love Songs! Well, actually I already heard SLS - in 1976!

I don't think he could do Take It Away anymore.
And Bruce, I doubt he'll drop Let Me Roll It because it was mentioned here somewhere that it is one of Nancy's favorites.

I donât know - Take It Away is not sung in a very high key. I think he could still handle it.
I bet Nancy would be the only one who could influence his setlist choices. He would listen to her. Wish one of us had an âinâ with her (or even her cousin, Barbara Walters!)

I'm not a singer so I don't know the correct terms for this but I don't think it's the high notes he can't get (IMO) but it seems to be the longer more melodic phrases. This whole section..

Itâs the high notes. The lyrics you listed are not that high and I really think he could do it. What do you think Yankeefan?

He probably won't, but fer chrissake he's done it on every tour for the last 40 years. The world (and his marriage) wouldn't end if he gave it a rest for a year and played something we've never heard before.

Bruce, hereâs what Paul has to say about all this setlist business:

I'd rather he drop an even older Beatles song. Any one of them.

Hey, I'd be fine with a zero Beatles set list, but hell will freeze over first.

Hey Bruce, I meant to put a on that photo I posted for you. You know I was jk around, right?

Some fans think the setlist needs to be replaced, but the original is still with us, and always terrific! (Mustache optional...)

True.
Some newer people may not know but we all use to gather round for setlist watch. Just to see what he was playing. Everyone would report the songs...one by one. Now... not so much. Such a shame that we can't hear him play so many of our favorites from the last album or even just the last 20 years! Of course being at a show in person is a whole different conversation & is ALWAYS a thrill.
