Where's Paul been lately?

Paul's looking good for 78. Whatever he's on is working.

At least Paul is trying to wear a mask and practice social distancing in the best way he can under the circumstances he finds himself in. He seems to just be going out to get groceries and food, which is what the rest of us have to do too.
Hopefully your father will remain safe and secure in his own home. Its so sad that you have to be seperated but you're doing the right thing by staying away. Hopefully you can reunited soon.
As for Paul, I'm not convinced it was really necessary for him to travel 3000 miles just to get his groceries?

Thanks for your kind words about my Dad. I'm sure things will be better in time. He hasn't tested positive so far.
Had to when I read your last sentence. I could say something about what he was traveling so far to get, but perhaps it's best to remain silent on that subject

Paul and Nancy have been quarantining apart for quite a while, and they probably decided for him to fly to New York because (correct me if I'm wrong) there's still a 14 day quarantine on arrival if she were to fly to England. She'd have had to stay in isolation (without Paul) for 2 weeks on arrival, so they may have decided it was easier for him to travel. Again, correct me if I'm wrong about the restrictions.
No, I think your right in all instances. And,as things stand, Paul himself will have to go into a 14 day quarantine period when he returns to the UK. Although given the size of his estate, thats not really a hardship. But the real point I was making was that seeing Nancy because it was his birthday is hardly essential. Despite the fact that he's taking sensible precautions, Paul's potentially placing himself and others at risk for no good reason.
Apparently there is no 14 day quarantine for someone coming from the U.K. to the U.S. (couldn't find out for sure) but if there is, Paul could have easily already done that in his home in the Hamptons. The U.K. 14-day quarantine is supposed to be lifted the end of July. Paul usually stays in the Hamptons every year through most of August, then goes back to the U.K. for Mary's, James's and Stella's birthdays. Paul and Nancy had been apart for at least 2 months - I don't really blame him for wanting to be here with her now.

'supposed' being the operative word. I can well see us being under full lockdown again by then judging by the lack of social distancing that's going on here.

I honestly hope you are on lockdown again because that will be the only way we can get our money back (or vouchers) for our hotels in Liverpool and London. Right now they are only allowing rebooking up to March 2021 and of course we want to come back during Beatleweek in August 2021! We are each out over $1000 otherwise!

I'm relieved to see he is back with Nancy, I can't imagine how difficult it was for him to be separated from her with no certain idea of when they could reunite.

I've had two holidays cancelled and I had the choice of refund, voucher or rebooking the holidays for the same periods next year at this years prices. I've opted for the latter. I'm quite surprised your hotels haven't simply transferred your booking to August 2021. They have your money so its no loss to them when you stay.

My father, who is 86, decided to throw caution to the wind and attend a church camp a week ago. They didn't practice social distancing there or wear masks, etc., and when the camp was over two of the campers tested positive for the coronavirus. And a nurse who attended the camp passed on the virus to 30 elderly people at the nursing home she works at. My father is now at home in quarantine... I haven't seen him since March 1, even though I talk to him on the phone regularly and live only 5 minutes away. I feel the behavior of this church group, and many church groups and young adult swimming parties is very irresponsible. At least Paul is trying to wear a mask and practice social distancing in the best way he can under the circumstances he finds himself in. He seems to just be going out to get groceries and food, which is what the rest of us have to do too.
Lady Leslie am so sorry to hear about your Dad and the church camp. There are way too many irresponsible cases of spreading the virus through church groups! Prayers to (((you and your Dad))), hope he's OK. It's good to hear this, for the people who may be tempted to do something like this.
Just wanted to let you know, my sister and I met midway and we parked our cars 6 feet apart and rolled down the windows and talked. It really was more comforting than the over the phone talking. Just being able to see her, was so good that we'll do it again soon! All the best.

Thanks, Love2Travel! My Dad seems to be doing ok and so far hasn't tested positive. Unfortunately, a nurse who attended the church camp passed on the virus to 30 residents of the nursing home where she works. We all have to do our part to stop the spread, or others suffer the consequences.
That's nice you were able to see your sister while still maintaining social distancing. It is comforting to be able to see our loved ones!

Exactly! This comes from IHG which owns both hotels. Unless the dates get pushed up to Aug/Sept. 2020 (right now it pertains only to bookings through June 30th) we can only rebook through March 2021! I even emailed the hotels directly.
Where were your holidays located?

It's beyond belief how irresponsible and the poor example being exhibited by this govt. regarding the serious nature of this Pandemic! It gives people the wrong ideas. Get so upset to hear stories like the one you shared. Praying for a miracle. All of deaths that are not necessary. Please stay safe everyone

I've been to Wales (Llangollen) once in 1980 - beautiful! Right on the River Dee.

I stayed there once too, about 2002. Beautiful scenery down by the river. Hotel dining room overlooked a graveyard.

Our hotel room overlooked a church I believe, so maybe a graveyard there too! Could have been the same hotel!

It probably was. I remember it was called the Hand Hotel, which struck me as being an odd name.
