MusicVaultz finally cancelled my order (never had to pay anything) and UDiscover cancelled my initial incorrect order and will be crediting my Amex. (I ordered the deluxe again and got the better price of $162.81)

I'm getting completely muddled about the deluxe release in the UK. I've been on serveral different websites & they're all saying different dates. Does anyone know what's actually happening with it?

Amazon have removed the option to buy it & say it's arriving 4th August, a site called Zavvi is saying the 13th August. So baffling

On U.S. Amazon, you can still pre-order it and it says release date is July 31st.

I think it has to do with the vinyl delaying things on certain packages. That's all I;ve heard about.

If anyone is interested...an instrumental version of BROOMSTICK! I have always loved this song.
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/paul-mccartney-broomstick-flaming-pie-1031998/
"The previously unreleased version of “Broomstick” premiering here, which will not appear on the box set, is an all-acoustic instrumental jam that features just McCartney and Miller. As he did on both of his McCartney albums — on which he tracked the guitar, bass, and drums himself — McCartney handles most of the heavy lifting, while Miller plays guitar. This version also lacks the sound effects that closed out the more-familiar version."

Paul McCartney, Steve Miller Team Up for Rare Instrumental ‘Broomstick’ From ‘Flaming Pie’ Sessions

Well, not as excited as a few people on this site for Flaming Pie. Just not wowed over this lp. Not a big fan at all of Steve Miller, so his addition to this lp was pretty lame IMO. And after hearing Paul's SOLO effort of Beautiful Night, I really wish that version was placed on the LP. Patiently waiting for the remastered version of BACK TO THE EGG, IMO, the most under-rated LP of the 70's. Hope it includes a great remastered version of Last Flight, Wings last tour in Scotland.

I feel much the same to be honest although I will be buying the 2-disc version just to get hold of the home demos. There are a handful of songs I like (Somedays,Calico Skies, Heaven On A Sunday, Souvenir & Little Willow) but overall the album is a bit too soft-focused for my taste.

What does "soft-focused" mean? Not enough rock?

No, because a lot of the tracks I don't like are more 'rockier' (sic) than the songs I do like. There is a kind of MOR production sheen that smothers the album and songs, that makes the overall sound far too glossy for my taste. And many of the performances are listliss and contived, especially on tracks like The Song We Were Singing & The World Tonight. I am expecting the home demo versions to be more natural sounding. Beautiful Night is a good example.

Yep Nancy, not enough ROCK!! Though I LOVE The Song We Were Singing, was not a big fan of The World Tonight. Biggest reason I'm also not a big fan at all of Chaos and Creation. I mean, really, A Certain Softness, English Tea, and Jenny Wren. Shoot me. C'mon Paul. I LOVE you, but those songs had me screaming into my pillow. Ha.

"The World Tonight" is "listless" ?? (Kestrel)
I think that song rocks ! Imparts a big, zesty, galvinizing jolt ! I love it. Many of the other ditties grant me a warm, comforting feeling that's also very nice. Overall, I love "Flaming Pie"--almost every slice.

Wingsoverkc
Good points Wingsoverkc as usual but I don't mind Steve Miller's appearance and playing on FP as you do. Two of the 3 songs where Steve joins Paul are Paul-written songs...Young Boy and If You Wanna. I have always loved Young Boyand If You Wanna to me is a good underrated album track. Not so much on "Used to be Bad" that in my opinion is more of a Steve Miller written song (although listed as cowritten) and not one of my favorite FP tracks. It's more of a blues jam song that I think is just ok at best. Speaking of "blues jam songs" the other jam song on FP is "Really Love You"which (and just my opinion) really puts a damper on the album as a whole. It is by far the worse song on FP. Paul has so many great unreleased songs that have never made an appearance on his proper albums so why include those 2 "jam" tracks on FP when he has so many other potential gems. Broomstick and On the Wings of a Nighingale are just 2 examples that could have made FP better. My theory is that when Paul has a guest on an album (e.g. Ringo and Steve Miller in this case) he goes too much out of his way to include them on the album. Paul did the same thing on Tug of War (a great album as a whole) where he included another nothing jam song (mainly a Stevie Wonder song) called "What's That You're Doing" that was entirely too long. He did the same thing here on FP with "Really Love You" that goes way too long.
Still FP has many great songs and while it admittedly is short on rockers, I consider it a major success in Paul's Solo career. I think "The World Tonight" kind of saves FP from being too soft. On top of "The World Tonight", songs like Somedays, Calico Skies, Heaven on a Sunday, Souvenir, Little Willow and Beautiful Night are among Paul's greatest Solo songs period in my opinion.
I agree with you totally on "Back to the Egg"...one of Paul's most underrated albums. I do think in that picking Flaming PIe NOW in 2020 was the more safe chice. FP was considered a real comeback for him in the 90's that garnered many good reviews as well as a Grammy Nomination for Album of the Year in 1997. It remains to be seen but I think the sales for the FP Reissue will be "relatively" successful for a Reissue. A combination of Back ot the Egg/London Town as a Archive choice would have been more risky. As a hard core fan, I was more in favor and would have been more enthusiastic for a Back to the Egg/London Town choice but we will have to be patient. The earliest I see it happening would be this time next year or the Fall of 2021. With the very high expense of all these FP packages, Paul can't release a big Reissue on Back to the Egg/London Town for at least another year. As you said, a Remastered release of the video of "Last Flight" alone as part of an Archive Package would be tremendous.
