Lesser-known McCartney Gem
-
Came across this lesser-known McCartney song again earlier and remembered just how truly fantastic a song it is. Unbelievable how even songs by Paul that were never properly released can be so amazing.

I have the picture sleeve 45 of this (Take It Away/I'll Give You A Ring) so it was actually properly released.

Good call Nancy, I have a 12" of that one! Actually a very cool song, definitely a hidden gem. Paul goes all over on it musically, the bass line just steering the wheel. Another song that's known but is definitely a standout for me and rarely heard is Golden Earth Girl. Props to GEG

Oh my, I had no idea! Thanks so much for telling me Nancy R, would love to buy a copy of that some day! And I totally agree with you, Kapoo, the bass line of this song is just fantastic, definitely one of the best parts of the song!

Never properly released on CD, though, which is a crime. "Rainclouds" is another one. A classic!

I know, it's unbelievable to think that! It just shows how fantastic Paul is that even amazing songs like these weren't released on CD! Had never actually heard Rainclouds before but just looked it up on YouTube! Brilliant! In the video I posted, it showed an album cover titled, "Paul McCartney: The Missing Singles Collection 1972-1985". I'd never heard of that album before, was that really for sale at one point? It also seemed to contain this instrumental version of We All Stand Together which I hadn't heard previously >
Also a beautiful version. -

Also a beautiful version. Not an official album. I would hope that "Tug Of War" gets the deluxe treatment someday. Those two songs would surely be on it, plus there are some incredible demos from that time. (I've got that "humming version" on vinyl.)

Yeah I thought so, thanks! That'd be awesome if those songs were on the deluxe Tug Of War, hopefully it'll happen!

Does anybody have by any chance I'll Give You a Ring in mp3 format, which could be emailed?

Don't forget that a very basic piano run through of I'll Give You A Ring is on the One Hand Clapping DVD that came out with BOTR. As for Rainclouds, that ought to be the number one song in the South this year with all the wet stuff that has been falling.

Yeah that's a cool version too!
But personally, I prefer the other version -
