Disagree, Where is I Will and others?! Instead you have Freedom and Come On to Me on it!!! It is hilarious!
I wonder if the people who write the articles actually listen to the music. -

Don't get me started. When I saw Come on to Me in the Top 25 (just a crap song, not even worthy of the Top 300) ... I just cuddled up into myself, and realized I couldn't take this list seriously.

I Will, is a mini masterpiece, and deceptive. I Will, is the very example of the type of song that makes you think " I coulda wrote that". But you can't. And he's done it over and over again. Mother Nature's Son. Blackbird. Heart of The Country. Bluebird. I'm Carrying. Long Haired Lady. Love Awake. And probably more, I have forgotten. I would love to have learned the acoustic guitar just to play those wonderful songs, alone, nevermind other great songs, written by other artists. Another example of McCartney's genius is the tribute song he wrote about John. Here Today. It's a lovely song, but not overly sweet and syrupy. It's just about right in its sensitivity and kindness. I have heard several tribute songs to John, after his death. They were bloody terrible. I never heard one as good as Paul's.

Empty Garden by Elton John was pretty darn good! What others are there that you think are “bloody terrible?”

Yes, I Will, is just simplicity itself, AND amazingly, FOR such a simple song, I like it more and more each time I hear it. How can that be after 50 plus years! I should be sick of it by now, blghuuuur!🤮 but I'm not, I still get a glow in my heart, in anticipation of it coming up when playing the cd. AND I still get a thrill at singing the darned thing all the way through LOL!!!

Though of course I've listened to I Will dozens if not hundreds of times over the years, it was only recently that I listened intently to his "mouth bass" then I saw a useful YouTube where someone was mouthing it loudly so you get a better sense of the bass pattern throughout -- and a new epiphany occurred to me: The bass pattern when accented out of the song has the distinct vibe & quality of a late 60s/early 70s Motown soul-pop song. Someone could re-do the song by accenting the bass part (even having backup singers doo-wah it as well) and turn it into that genre.

I still think that All Those Years Ago was the best John tribute. Terrific song. Terrific lyrics. Better than Here Today. Which I do love. But George nailed it. Brings tears to my eyes more than Here Today, which I do like. A great song. But, George got it brilliantly... "I always looked up to you."... Tears in my eyes.

Agreed! I forgot about George's song. Yes it too is great. Strangely jolly beat though, for such a sad subject.George used to ask John about "tips" on songwriting. He said the best advice John gave him was, once you start writing your song, stay with it, don't leave it and go back to it later because by then your mood will have changed. Best to stay with it till its done.

And @wandy, you never said what tribute songs you thought were “bloody terrible.”The terrible ones ( I heard) were done by "unknowns". Beatles fans who had good intentions, because they loved John, but their song writing skills, were at best, well intentioned. And at worst, just bloody awful. Mostly it was the lyrics, making John out to be a Saint. John Lennon was NO Saint. But as I say, these were unknown people. I can't remember who they were now.

And @wandy, you never said what tribute songs you thought were “bloody terrible.”I'm not going to lie.... I googled it.... but I think the embryo of "All Those Years Ago" was meant for Ringo, but he rejected it... So, George 'reimagined' it. Didn't Ringo also reject John's 'Nobody Told Me'?' Perhaps posthumously.... I still find it astounding that John didn't think enough of that song as being good enough, so he was going to send it off to Ringo.... Nobody Told Me is one of my favourite John tracks of all time.

Yes, you’re correct - All Those Years Ago was meant for Ringo originally. I don’t know about Nobody Told Me (“most peculiar mama”) - would have to Google that, but I agree it’s a great song!
Yep:
The song was originally written for Ringo Starr to include on his 1981 album, Stop and Smell the Roses, but due to Lennon's death, Starr decided not to record it.
