New album by Ringo, titled Postcards from Paradise
-
Yeah, it's a context thing the way I see/hear it. Ringo played drums in the greatest band ever, a genius combination of four musicians. I don't think any of The Beatles were technical flashy, they just sounded exceptionally good together. But if you enjoy "Boys", "Octopuss 'Garden", "With a Little Help From My Friends"... Ringo's sound and contribution to The Beatles, one finds traces of this on his solo albums also.

It's true. The four of them made it work. John and Paul's skilled songwriting, their vocals, George's strong guitar, and Ringo's ability to keep the song together, whilst adding his own skillful touch to each song. Plus I've heard the fact that, despite many people claiming Ringo to be the worst, and he got lucky when he got brought in to replace Pete, and he would be nothing without the Beatles, Ringo actually made the least amount of screw ups on any Beatles songs, out of all 4 boys... Plus there is the fact that Ringo was a successful drummer in Liverpool, maybe the most successful, before the Beatles even had a permanent drummer, back when it was just 4 guitarists, and Stuart Sutcliffe was their terrible bass player. I don't get it. I really don't get their harsh criticism

Technical drummers in the 50's-60's was perhaps more jazz musicians. Ringo belongs to the early rock 'n' roll generation of drummers, beat music, meant to be fun, not virtuoso. Progressive rock in the 70's is a different chapter, I feel. One can't compare him with Billy Cobham and Phil Collins, etc. Ringo is also flexible, he can be the lead singer too. He's done well on his own after the Beatles I think. It can't just be luck, certainly some talent too.

Were it not Ozzy Osbourne who said some years ago that what Ringo plays in "Ticket to Ride" was light years ahead of any other rock and pop drummers in 1965? That it is very inventive for the period.
-
Yet more truth. He has been holding up well as a lead singer of the All Starrs for over 25 years. Everyone in the bands have enjoyed working for him. And let's face it, if people thought he was a terrible singer, or a terrible drummer, half the seats would be empty. Oh, the haters are confusing. But hey, hopefully Postcards from Paradise will succeed, and maybe win a few haters over.

Half the drum pieces he created for the Beatles was revolutionary and spectacular. Ticket To Ride, What You're Doing, Rain, Tomorrow Never Knows, Here Comes The Sun, to name a few. I think a few weeks ago, I was reading something about Ringo's drumming on Get Back. Forget who said it, but they were marveling at it. Simple, and yet perfect. At least 90% of his drum pieces worked for the song.

Yes, the all-Starr Band tours have some of the biggest names in rock and pop the last fifty years, great musicians and Ringo playing everything from prog-rock to funk and pompous 80s ballads. 'It's all music', he say, in an interview from the 2001 tour DVD.

That's it. That's all Ringo cares about. He's not after fame. He's not after money. He's only interested in 2 things. 1. Achieving Peace and Love... seems fair. 2. Playing with talented musicians. And he's been doing that for over 50 years. Now there's a musician who's earned his much deserved respect!

I've always loved Ringo and his music. I saw him last summer with the All Stars and I will go again in October. They put on a great show. Looking forward to the new record. Ringo was a professional drummer before the Beatles and the best drummer in Liverpool. Ringo's reputation has always taken a hit because George Martin brought in Andy White. But he is a great rock and roll drummer. His work on Beatle records and his own songs proves that.

Amen to that, my man. Hopefully Postcards From Paradise will succeed and will bring Ringo back to the charts. I can personally say the album is a success to me. I'd probably rank it up there with Ringo, Vertical Man, and Y Not.

Time Takes Time is one of my favorites. Along with Old Wave. Some nice guitar work from Joe Walsh

Yeah, they're both good. It's a shame Old Wave didn't receive a mass release like other albums. It's miles better than Rotogravure and Bad Boy, maybe on the same level with Ringo the 4th

Paul taught him that drum beat.

Another new track is out there: "Confirmation." Not too bad. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6509641/ringo-starr-exclusive-confirmation-postcards-from-paradise

Yeah, Confirmation is a good song. Not my favourite. Not in my top 3 from the new album, but hey, still a good one. Had the album been released now, I'd recommend Rory and the Hurricanes, Bamboula, and Island In The Sun. They are probably the best songs on the album

Ringo's Postcards From Paradise CD is getting some pretty decent reviews from what I've seen so far. It appears Ringo has delivered a winner!!! http://www.moderndrummer.com/site/2015/03/album-review-ringo-starr-postcards-from-paradise/#_ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/reviews/article-3013997/At-74-Ringo-drums-winner-Star-s-latest-offering-gets-little-help-friends-ADRIAN-THRILLS-reviews-former-Beatle-s-new-album.html http://somethingelsereviews.com/2015/03/26/ringo-starr-postcards-from-paradise-review/

Ringo was never an innovative drummer, except for Rain & maybe A Day in the Life. He'll even admit that. He provided a steady beat, but so could many good drummers with the three others. Ringo's personality fit very well within the group. The less said about his songwriting, the better.

Critics have been unfairly harsh to the solo Beatles for the 70s & 80s. Since then, they've been too kind.

Thanks. That last one was clearly written by someone who knows Ringo's history. How often do you see a reference to "King of Broken Hearts"?

Many of the greatest pop musicians in the world disagree with you. You sound like someone that just can't stand to see Ringo getting such great reviews. Very strange....
