"White Album" - what are the best things about it?

Scarlett, No! The prototype of my "Yoko Ono" clock radio sounded like a motley rabble of homeless cats fighting inside a steel garbage can Quite a true sonic recreation I might add and NO cats were harmed during recording!

All the songs in this double-album is melodic. And as for "Revolution 9," I enjoy listening to it. Good night!

^^ In the same vein of thinking I am suddenly reminded of that fabulous piece of musical art called McCartney II. It certainly is different. It is not the average song format, and it totally rocks my socks off! (There I go again. ) Just thought of McCartney II. and the interesting sound experimentation. Not just that album though, Paul plays with everyday noises and incorporates them into songs all the time. How bout The Fireman? I mean really how much more experimental can one get? I love it. It is just that Paul did those albums. If John had been credited I bet some would hate it just because John did it instead.
This is where you're wrong. I love most of Paul's stuff, but I don't like most of the Fireman stuff at all. Also dislike Twin Freaks. I don't care who does that type of "music" (Paul or John), I am not a fan.
You don't like Twin Freaks? I think it is very cool. Love it. I even have the cover reproduced on my desk here. (Paul's paintings) And the music is some of the preshow songs. oh yeah! I needa!
LOVE the Temporary Secretary remix on Twin Freaks. I needa!! When I was very young my brother used to lock me in a dark closet with a speaker against the door playing Revolution 9. If the state department is looking for new torture methods I can recommend this as being pretty effective. It scared the living sh*t out of me. Take this brother may it serve you well.

Being locked in a closet I would think...would be the most traumatic part...whether you liked a particular song or not! I have an older brother who wasn't always very nice to me either.

If it was a John-Paul collaboration, I would have no problem with Revolution 9. But it was a pure John-Yoko collaboration, & its not the Beatles. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Similarly, I have no problem with "weird" or "Yoko" songs, like You Know My Name & The Ballad of John & Yoko because Paul played a major roll in it. And for those who say John & Paul wrote "solo" Beatle songs inspired by their girlfriend/wives, its a big difference to be inspired & write a song in the Beatles tradition & writing an avant guard piece in collaboration by a wife partner.
Well actually it IS The Beatles. It's core is the extended section of Revolution (slow version) that was shaved off. It was part of the actual take. It IS The Beatles.

I don't think I'd be nearly as scarred if he played Honey Pie. I think all older brothers are supposed to be mean. Right?

It's stories like this that make me glad I'm an only child!

I think some of them are programmed that way from birth!

Or...just had big sisters. Although...maybe they did do the same thing because I have no memory of my childhood. Maybe they dropped me on my head before putting me in the closet.

I never had many arguments with my younger brother but one time I did when I was very young as I recall. I was surprised that he seemed to take me winning the battle too well until one day I found my favorite Shirley Temple doll with her nostrils colored in with indelible ink. Oh, how I cried! But I was never tortured. My co-worker Kathleen was though. She was the youngest of three girls. When she was a young girl she always tried on her older sisters' clothes, cologne, make-up and they hated that. One day they got back at her when the parents weren't around. Kathleen had a fear of birds. The three of them were at a secluded beach area and they took turns burying each other, up to the neck...in a way you cannot get free on your own, you must be dug out. Well when they buried my co-worker below ground surface, up to her neck in wet sand, they sprinkled potato chips all around her head and face. The seagulls swooped in immediately as the sisters took a short walk down the beach. Poor Kathleen said it was like a Hitchcock movie. Her screams could have been heard for miles!

She probably walked around with a chip on her shoulder after that!

Hi DM! Yikes! First of all sorry to hear about this! I had to smile for a second when I read this due to the sheer sinister creativity of it Yet you are still a Beatles fan! What was the scariest part of Revolution 9 going through that?? Just off the news wire: The Pentagon just placed a very large order for the Beatles White Album through Amazon this morning!

When you say your "childhood" at what age do your memories begin?

ohoh...ummm the only things I can remember are occasions where there were pictures taken. Or just flashes of things. Otherwise...really not much. I can remember some of my teenage years.

Wow! I'm just the opposite--I remember everything from about age 2 and on. I also kept a diary from 1967 (age 12) until the early 1990's so that helped.

Wow...that is a really good memory. Your memory must be almost full. LOLOLOL!

Not yet! My first memory is actually when I was 18 months old and I was feeding my dad a popsicle (he was crouched down and I held it up to him) There was a photo taken, but I still have a very strong memory of holding that popsicle up to him!
