From his Facebook page: "It is with great sadness the we mark the death of Pandit Ravi Shankar, Sitar virtuoso, cultural ambassador, teacher, friend and inspiration to all of us. But it is with great joy that we celebrate his life of 92 years and its uncompromising dedication to musical collaboration beyond national boundaries, virtuosity in every creative endeavor and a fundamental love of Gurukul teaching of Indian classical music forms."

I just added his Facebook page last week. And I was thinking wow he is still touring in his 90's and he looks great especially with the beard.

Rest In Peace. Ravi came to my attention when he was given a headline spot at the Concert For Bangladesh. I'd known George had been interested in sitar music with the instrument appearing in several compositions but it wasn't until the Concert For Bangladesh that his mentor Ravi stepped into the limelight for me. Dear Ravi, friend to all The Beatles, especially George, of course.

Moreover Ravi was the inspiration for Concert For Bangladesh: "My friend came to me, sadness in his eyes..."

Very surprised to hear this, even if someone is 92 you still are surprised when they pass away. What a celebration his life was!! I was lucky enough to see Ravi and Anoushka perform at the Kimmel Center in Philly back in 2008 I am so glad I saw that show. I had never seen Ravi perform and even though he was at the Concert for George he did not play at all.

I saw Ravi at George's concert here in Atlanta in 1974. I must admit though that I ran to the bathroom during his set. ops: RIP Ravi
