RMartinez:
I suspect all of the band's vintage instruments are insured, especially that little violin bass. Instruments get broken on the road. That is part of touring.
Some of the guitars he played are irreplaceable regardless of insurance -- one was a guitar he played on the Ed Sullivan show. It was a very unfortunate incident. I have it on video as well and was a bit shocked when it happened.

I saw it happen too, Paul didn't seem too concerned. Speaking of broken guitars, I read something a while ago on Pauls Rickenbacker bass by the guy that restored it. Its pretty interesting http://www.thecanteen.com/arnquist.html

The tour book says it's a Les Paul Deluxe that he got in 2007. Had it been his vintage Höfner bass or the Epiphone Casino I think he would have been a lot more upset! It's a terrible thing to drop any guitar (don't ask me how I know that ) Cool read on the Rickenbacker...thanks!

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I'd DIE if I dropped my guitar (or any guitar or instrument in general, for that matter!). I shudder even thinking about it.

Here is video that I took of the Marriage Proposal. It was a great modeserving ofongratulations John and Claudia
Podgie (He booked the band?! I hope I'm invited!) MonkeyThank you Podge! Mr Dann was my 12th grade English teacher! He has always been a major fan. If anyone is deserving of this it's him. I still can't believe I witnessed this happen to someone i know!

I understand that. But human beings are involved, and there are times when guitars slip, or are stolen or any number of things can happen on the road. Clearly McCartney loves his old guitars, and like many touring musicians, sees them more as working tools than museum pieces. Surely, if he wanted to, he could keep those instruments at home and use new ones, and 99% of the audience would not care. I am not shocked in the least. It happens and will happen again. Even McCartney banged the head stock of that bass he played on Ed Sullivan on the roof taking it off. He is human, it happens. His guitar tech is human, it will happen.

Yeah, I read it was in pretty bad condition, only in that it needed a set up, the pick up replaced, and was saturated in sweat. In other words, it was played and used a LOT over the years! To us mere mortals, these guitars are the axes of the gods. But to them, they are just tools and instruments to be used to make music, not to be babyed and treated like relics. McCartney knows the risks. If that Hofner bass falls and the neck cracks in two, it's not the end of the world. Besides, those necks can easily be replaced, it may have already been replaced for all we know. That's why, if you look at the side of the stage, he has a back up violin bass, a modern new one. Just in case. For the life of me, I don't know why he just doesn't play a new one and save the original at home. A new one would play better! Or not.

Can we start a new thread to do a roll call of which forum members attended the Albany show? It would be nice to know who was there and what sort of tickets they had. I'm sure there were plenty of forum members at the soundcheck/buffet I attended, but I didn't know who was from the forum. I did ask several people. It'd also be nice to find a way to share pic/videos between those of us that choose to do so as some people had some interesting vantage points. I got some good pics too but I was directly in front of him and only had an iPhone 5 to work with...although some of the pics are quite good. I'd like to start a new thread as this one is more of an Albany "catch-all" but I'm concerned that the mods/admin are going to fold it back into this one which will defeat its purpose. Thoughts?

Why not do it here? I think in the past these threads were for that purpose.

What an AMAZING show! This was my third time seeing Paul, but by far my favorite! Part of what made this show so special is that it was in my hometown: a place where I never thought, in a million years, I would see Paul McCartney. I still can't believe it! I feel like it was my first time all over again! His energy was over-the-top and it was so contagious. I have to say this was the most enthusiastic and energetic crowd I've experienced yet. And, his voice was amazing! He was really at the top of his game at this show. Add all this to the fact it was his first show back... just an amazing concert. Paul you continue to inspire awe. Speaking of being Amazed... did anyone else catch the lyrics flub at the beginning of Maybe I'm Amazed? And that guilty smile on Paul's face!

Well my fear is that a post will get buried quite fast and will not garner the attention that a new thread will. It would be great to have a more definitive idea who attended Albany from this forum. I can compile a list by going back over the forum page-by-page but we'll probably miss quite a few people that attended.

I think the mods will just take a separate thread and merge it with this one, they like to have all show-talk in one place.

Did anyone besides me collect any of that red, white, and, blue confetti that rained down on us at the end of the show? I grabbed a couple handfuls of it as I thought it made for a kinda cool keepsake from the show.

Now that's funny -- my daughter and I both caught the sheepish smile, but we thought it was because he started off just a little shaky on the first couple of lines. (His voice caught up quickly however! Will need to go check out the video....

Hi Erik...my son (MaccaBassman...see post above) and I attended the soundcheck and had front row seats for the show. I can honestly say that was the greatest McCartney concert I've seen since Wings Over America in '76!! (I think it's best to keep this in the current "Albany thread"...thank you.)

Loved Macca so much in Albany...we are now headed to New Orleans in October!
