This is happening on my local Triple A (Adult Alternative) station, WXPN 88.5. (This is the station that put "Queenie Eye" into heavy rotation last fall.) They're doing a countdown of the Top 885 songs ever, based mainly on listener votes. I'll try to keep track of the Beatles' appearances on the list. As you'll see, there are a lot, and it goes pretty deep. Here's the website: http://xpn.org/music-artist/885-countdown/2014?page=1 875 - Back in the USSR 827 - Rain 826 - Things We Said Today 822 - You Never Give Me Your Money 769 - The Fool On The Hill 768 - The End 740 - I Will 733 - Happiness Is A Warm Gun 729 - Oh! Darling 709 - What Is Life [George solo] 692 - Isn't It A Pity [George solo] 678 - Got To Get You Into My Life 673 - And Your Bird Can Sing 662 - Penny Lane 659 - Twist And Shout 651 - Helter Skelter 626 - Please Please Me 619 - I Want You (She's So Heavy) So far, no John or Paul solo (or Wings). The whole list is amazingly diverse, including the Beatles, the Who, the Stones, etc., but also newer bands like Old 97's and Dr. Dog, lots of folk and R&B and alternative, and even Pharrell's "Happy" from this year.

Oh my, and now they're doing the 88 Worst Songs Of All Time, again as voted by listeners. Unfortunately, our boys are on this one, too: 81 - Ebony and Ivory [Paul and Stevie Wonder] 70 - Yellow Submarine More to come? Hope not!

This poll is actually the Worst Songs by anyone, not the Beatles. So far, there's stuff like "Copacabana" and "Dancing Queen" and Miley Cyrus, etc. But many of the "worst songs" are songs I actually like!

23 - Wonderful Christmastime [Paul solo] So, just three Beatle-related ones. In case you're curious, the top 3 of this list were: 3 - Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus [his daughter had two on the countdown as well] 2 - Who Let The Dogs Out - Baha Men 1 - We Built This City - Starship

2 observations: 1). Poor 'Ebony & Ivory'. It gets no respect. 2). McCartney classics like Maybe I'm Amazed & Penny Lane still overshadowed by Lennon's Imagine & Strawberry Fields.

Ahh, OK. For me, it would be "Mr. Moonlight," probably, unless you mean original songs, then maybe "Only A Northern Song."

But George certainly got some respect: three solo songs among the best, compared to one each from John and Paul! May have something to do with the boxed set coming out recently, though.

For sure. I place that and the Golden Slumbers Medley at the top of the all-time best on various rock polls I participate in. They are my numbers 1 and 2 when I send in my top five of all time to this or that station. (They usually allow each person to name their five all-time favorite songs. And they allow medleys as individual songs.) These countdowns are interesting...in that they are all so different...depending on who's listening and when, and whether they decide to vote or not. I do it here on Big 100 Classic Rock. They have the Top 500 periodically...Memorial Day for instance....so the DJs can have time off and the playlist is set and they just play it over and over until everyone comes back to work! I rarely listen for the results anymore. The Beatles generally place more songs on the list than any other artist, so I do try to fill in the little form online to help with that.

I don't know what happened with them, they kind of screwed up both of those. They had: #822 - You Never Give Me Your Money #768 - The End But then: #62- Abbey Road medley They also had: #399 - Sgt. Pepper reprise / A Day In The Life But then: #4 - A Day In The Life Someone was asleep at the switch!

I would say so.... Did they consider the Abbey Road Medley to be the Golden Slumbers...or the Mean Mr. Mustard one? Sometime they play the latter one too, as one song,....but I would guess from your phrasing, it was the ..."Slumbers" one....and then having "The End" with those guitar solos as a separate entry. I guess it could qualify if enough people placed it that way. It is great. What I love about that is it's so easy to tell which one is playing which part and when....first Paul then George then John. Repeat. The solos seem to reflect their personalities....quite well.

Yes, on Mr. Moonlight. I know that John liked to sing it. ...and he did so quite well. Nice vocal. BUT...I keep thinking why didn't they, instead, do a nice studio version of "Shot Of Rhythm & Blues", which John totally kills? His voice was like a blow torch. That one should definitely have been properly recorded. I really don't mind "It's Only A Northern Song". And I don't mind "Act Naturally". It's a nice tune for Ringo and Paul harmonizes quite well on it. They listened to all kinds of music and Ringo liked Country music, so why not?

I don't know if they played the medley starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money" to "The End", or just the part starting with "Golden Slumbers." I considered calling the station, but I felt too geeky! 😉

My vote for worst is What Goes On!

This poll is actually the Worst Songs by anyone, not the Beatles. So far, there's stuff like "Copacabana" and "Dancing Queen" and Miley Cyrus, etc. But many of the "worst songs" are songs I actually like!

I know, I was just voting for the worst Beatles song.

Ahh, OK. For me, it would be "Mr. Moonlight," probably, unless you mean original songs, then maybe "Only A Northern Song."

Yes, on Mr.

John's vocal is great, it's just that horrible organ solo that sounds like it could have been 1-year-old Julian pounding on the keys. 😉 And the packing case percussion wasn't as cool as they thought it was, in my opinion! Yes, "A Shot of Rhythm and Blues" would have been great!
