A Day in the Life at 399??? Its in the top 10 of most rock polls I've seen.
For sure. I place that and the Golden Slumbers Medley at the top of the all-time best on various rock polls I participate in. They are my numbers 1 and 2 when I send in my top five of all time to this or that station. (They usually allow each person to name their five all-time favorite songs. And they allow medleys as individual songs.) These countdowns are interesting...in that they are all so different...depending on who's listening and when, and whether they decide to vote or not. I do it here on Big 100 Classic Rock. They have the Top 500 periodically...Memorial Day for instance....so the DJs can have time off and the playlist is set and they just play it over and over until everyone comes back to work! I rarely listen for the results anymore. The Beatles generally place more songs on the list than any other artist, so I do try to fill in the little form online to help with that.
I don't know what happened with them, they kind of screwed up both of those. They had: #822 - You Never Give Me Your Money #768 - The End But then: #62- Abbey Road medley They also had: #399 - Sgt. Pepper reprise / A Day In The Life But then: #4 - A Day In The Life Someone was asleep at the switch!
I would say so.... Did they consider the Abbey Road Medley to be the Golden Slumbers...or the Mean Mr. Mustard one? Sometime they play the latter one too, as one song,....but I would guess from your phrasing, it was the ..."Slumbers" one....and then having "The End" with those guitar solos as a separate entry. I guess it could qualify if enough people placed it that way. It is great. What I love about that is it's so easy to tell which one is playing which part and when....first Paul then George then John. Repeat. The solos seem to reflect their personalities....quite well.
I don't know if they played the medley starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money" to "The End", or just the part starting with "Golden Slumbers." I considered calling the station, but I felt too geeky!
Yeah, they probably would have asked: "Why haven't you been listening? If you had, you would know!"
