AROTR Line Up - This Year: Anyone going?

Sorry Nancy. I originally posted on the Band on the Run Thread and they transferred it to this thread. Glad they did so we're both in the same thread. Just to add to what Nancy said earlier. One of the last groups we saw last night were the Blue Beatles, a group from Brazil. One of their singers had a Paul 20 year old voice. They did Long Tall Sally and I'm Down and I was in heaven. Then they did Honey Hush (from Run Devil Run) and I almost fell over. This was one of the reasons I decided to come to this Abbey Road Festival (thanks Nancy). I saw the Blue Beatles this morning at breakfast and told them how much I loved their show. Then Mario (the lead singer) let me know that at today's show they are going to do such songs as O'Darling, Honey Hush (again from Run Devil Run) Lonesome Town and Figure of Eight just to name a few. On top of this the other groups are doing "deeper" Beatle cuts. This is great so far and I still have 4 days to go! Bruce and Yankeefan, when I heard Honey Hush (Hi Ho Silver) I was think about you guys knowing how much you like Run Devil Run and they are doing more today. Fantastic.

You should have a maccaboard attendees' meetup.

Well there are only the 2 of us here and we've seen some bands together. Saw The Cryers with Denny Laine and Steve Holley again. They did Mull of Kintyre! I also have friends here from Nashville, Chicago, Dayton, Rochester, NY and the Los Angeles area! None of them are on the Maccaboard though.

Well it's quite early Saturday morning after my first full day at this Festival (AROTR). The performances really got started a little after 1pm and they went non-stop till close to 11pm. For an older guy (late 60's) I must say I'm pretty tired and there are still lots to go. For whatever reason, I had never done Festivals when I was younger. But if there was ever a time (when i'm mature!) this is "the Festival" to attend if you are a Beatles Fan. There is something for every type of fan and even beyond. And the quality of the performers have been so impressive. While I'm watching one group play, I start to think that they are the best act yet. Then I watched the next group and think "no they are the best yet". It was that kind of a day. And as I said earlier, this venue (outside of Louisville KY) has signed up for Abbey Road on the River over the next 3 years. It is always around Memorial Day. Anyone who lives east of the Mississippi (or within a day's driving distance) should consider coming if they love Beatles music. It is very relaxing and you choose what you wish to see. As mentioned, there is something for every type of fan. Groups were doing specific albums or they were focusing on different eras. Then you had groups doing the different individual Beatles. There was a Band who did a whole set on "greatest hits of the British Invasion". Heard songs from Dave Clark 5, the Animals, early Bee Gees etc. Another band did a whole set on the Wilbury's. Today, I'm looking forward to hearing the Cryers again. This time Laurence Juber will be joining Denny Laine and Steve Holley. Imagine 3 out of 5 of the last Wings lineup. Their theme will be "Last Flight" the abbreviated England tour. Hopefully we will get more Back to the Egg tracks. The Blue Beatles are also coming back with a Paul Only Set so I'm also looking forward to that. I mentioned that the lead singer hinted that they would do O'Darling, Honey Hush, Lonesome Town, Figure of Eight just to name a few. On top of that, we have one of the headliners tonight...Peter Noone with his Herman Hermits. Anyway should be another great day.

Yesterday was hot and mostly sunny. Today, cloudy with chance of rain in the afternoon and evening, but temp supposed to be in the low 80s.

_____________________________________________________ Fan4-45 years I promise I have no connection to the organizers. My first time and I only found out about it through Nancy. Another nice thing...I'm staying at the Hotel (Clarion) where many of the performers are staying. In all, they are so nice and so friendly. Denny Laine, Steve Holley are really down to earth people. But as I said, they are all friendly. The other aspect I love is the International flavor...bands from Brazil, Puerto Rico, Canada, and of course Great Britain. There are also bands from Chicago, Cleveland and Boston. If I come across as too commercial, please forgive me. As a big time Beatle fan, I'm just being honest. I did have to pay $32. cab fee for a short drive from the airport so I can always complain about something. Guess I should have used Uber. But certainly most of the performers and Beatle fans I've met have been great. And as Nancy implied, we're just holding our breath that we don't get a downpour. Always the danger of a outdoor festival.

Today, first it was fine and actually sunny at times and had to seek out shade. We sat at a picnic table under a big tent and awhile later the skies opened up and it poured! They cancelled a couple of shows but thankfully the 3/5 Wings reunion went on after the rain quit. Here's Denny Laine, Steve Holley and Laurence Juber.

Great shot, Nancy! I was wondering where folks could go when it rained. So, enough tent space for everyone? Hope so. This is a great update with the name of a hotel where newcomers can get room today, Sunday. It also has driving directions, what time the box office opens today, parking, etc. http://www.arotr.com/site/?page_id=6223 How was Mark Lindsey's set? Also, Peter and Peter together? Hope neither of those shows was rained out.

Nice pic Nancy! They even have AROTR logo on the drumhead. Cool!

I had 2 highlights on Saturday. First was the Wings reunion as Nancy described. To see Denny Laine, Laurence Juber and Steve Holley all on stage was fantastic. And their setlist was pretty great too. Going by memory here it was: Time to Hide No Words Again, Again, & Again Deliver Your Children Rockestra Theme My Love (Laurence dedicated it to Henry McCullough who did the original guitar solo) Go Now Live and Let Die Band on the Run I've might have missed a song or two but it was a great set. Really impressed with Laurence Juber on the electric guitar. He is terrific. Would have liked to hear a few more Back to the Egg songs but who can complain. This was a once in a lifetime type of event. Denny was only there because a member of the Cryers Band couldn't make it because his wife was having a baby. My 2nd highlight for the day was the Paul Solo set done by a group from Brazil called Blue Beatles. This was a set at this Beatles Festival I was hoping for but frankly didn't expect to happen. Even Paul himself has ignored so much of his Solo stuff. The lead vocalist from the Blue Beatles had a fantastic Paul voice which meant they could do practically anything from rockers to ballads. Going by memory here was the setlist: Venus and Mars/Rock Show Letting Go 1985 Eat At Home Dear Boy 3 Legs Uncle Albert My Brave Face Figure of Eight Lonesome Town Honey Hush Maybe I'm Amazed Hey Jude (final song) Again, I might have forgotten a song or two but it was an amazing set. Unlike the outdoor stages, this was held in a small intimate venue that had a look of the Cavern club where Paul performed Run Devil Run in 2001 I believe. Anyway, it was a great show and something I never expected heading into this Festival. It made the long trip I took worthwhile it in every way. As i said, the lead singer's voice was spectacular. Loved all the songs and I was up dancing which is not something I would normally do. For Run Devil Run fans, his versions of Lonesome Town and Honey Hush were over the top. And since I have been listening to flowers in the dirt recently, I loved My Brave Face and Figure of Eight. Today they are going to do the whole Ram album. Man, I'm in heaven at this Festival.
