"Ringo" album
-
I listened to this album the other night for the first time in a long while. I'd forgotten how charming and fun it is. And yes, I still have my original, 1973 vintage vinyl LP!!!!
-
It is a really good album, I agree! One of the few albums where every song is written by someone different and it still sounds cohesive.
-
It's almost like a "Beatle" album since all 4 are on it in some form or fashion.
-
One of my favorite post Beatles albums for sure. Ringo is best when having songs produced by the other Beatles.

yeah, I hear that Ringo has recently mixed out Klaus Voorman's bass guitar on 'I'm The Greatest' and has had Paul overdub his bass and is releasing the song as a new Beatles single next week.

Awesome album! this is my favorite track on the album, You're Sixteen. You have Nilsson and Paul on it as you all know, and it just sounds freaking fantastic. these guys could really make music.
and the Lennon gem I'm the Greatest, very Beatle-esque Thats just a great record. -
I thought Paul and Linda were only on the tune he wrote, Six O'Clock? :

Hey DrBeatle! Paul does the kazoo on You're Sixteen, Nilsson does the stellar backing vocals. I believe its the only track Paul and Harry appear on together, which is a crying shame! Six O'Clock is another great tune for Ringo. I get the biggest kick out of the goofy 'I don't treat ya like I should..' refrain.. that is classic Macca writing for Ringo.

And let's put in a word for Klaus Voorman's terrific illustrations for the booklet that came with the album. Ah, those were the days...

Ah, thanks for that bit of info!

Of course Ringo could be, Ringo Starr's finest solo album. Beyond that, it's the Beatles reunion album that never was. What's that you ask? Well all four Beatles perform on the various songs, on I believe 6 of the 10 tracks. Although all four of them don't perform together on any one song. 3 Beatles do play on the opening cut. So in other words, no its not the Beatles, but its very close to the Beatles got back together one time, and Ringo sang all the leads, and the other three wrote the majority of the songs, and played which they of course did. In fact Producer Jack Douglas says, they were going to do that again, except they were all going to play behind Ringo together. on the original Smell the Roses Album before Lennon's murder. Damn that SOB

Only You is on Goodnight Vienna. Hey Baby is on Rotogravure.

Ringo did try to replicate the formula of this album on those next two albums (and on a few later ones), but somehow the freshness of the production and the strength of the songs were just never the same. I hear he's working on yet another new album right now, by the way. No involvement from Paul, apparently.

one of my top SOLO Albums ....why hasnt there been a 40TH ANV RE-ISSUE with bonus tracks and cool stuff??? Everybody has done it!!!

Good idea. Let's dust off that funky little b-side I always liked: Down and Out!

When I put the Ringo album on a tape a few decades ago, I realized there was more space to fill out the 45 minutes on the side, so I put "Down And Out" between "You're Sixteen" and "Oh My My," and then "Back Off Boogaloo" after "Six O'Clock" and before "Devil Woman" (which I always thought was the weak link on the album, especially coming after such a sublime song as "Six O'Clock"). That's the one awkward moment on the album as it stands, going from the humble "I don't treat you like I should" sentiment to accusing his woman of being a demon from hell! Or is the devil woman his mistress, thus proving that he does not treat his steady girlfriend/wife the way he should??

At one of his concerts here, a female yelled out "Devil Woman!" Ringo just deadpanned, "You're the devil woman lady..."

I've only seen him once, but he really can be quick with the retorts up on stage there. I thought he was great.
