Keith Richards Trashes Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’ as ‘Rubbish’
-
I don't think Keith looks like a fool. Even many Beatle fans think Revolver is better than Sgt. Pepper's.

I like Revolver better in many ways...but,it doesn't make me think that Pepper is RUBBISH.
-
Keith reminds me of Lennon. They say straight out what they think. I've met many people who don't see the greatness of Sgt. Pepper. They want the music to be made in a different way. And that's fine with me.

I think you're just angry that, if you did think it was rubbish, you wouldn't get the press Keith is getting!

I agree!! John said a LOT of what the Beatles did was rubbish! That was just tough talk coming from him! It really didn't bother me or effect my listening to those Beatle songs. Keith is just doing the same. Trying to get a rise out of people, because he can. And it's working!

Yeah, I think it's a little bit of tough talk, maybe a little bit of jealousy and a little more of other visions for treating songs and music. More than anything else, I think it's just a spontaneus thing taken out of context. I doubt that he chose to criticize Sgt. Pepper as a way to promote his forthcoming album. The reason why I continue to discuss this is not due to him, he has said this so many times before, but because of you here in this thread... It's like a bigger bang, it never ends.

SurSteven:
The ironic thing is that it says, "Rolling Stones Good Guys" on the Sgt. Pepper Album Cover. Keith has a way of putting on his Goat Head now and then and making a fool of himself.
I don't think of Keith as a fool. Wouldn't say he's made a fool of himself.

It never does!

Sometimes it's funny too. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and the part of music history never ceases to engage me. And I have no one to talk about this with. At least not beyond the standardized and boring. Here people have musical opinions.

Here is an interview with Bob Dylan and his thoughts on The Rolling Stones. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/bob-dylan/5148025/Bob-Dylan-interview-with-Bill-Flanagan.html

Not at all. Some of the most influential musicians in rock n roll have had more music written about them than they have had direct press coverage. One would have to understand the mystery trend to know what I'm talking about.

Maybe it's post tour stress disorder. His doctor may need to prescribe him a big fat joint of holy rollin' columbo.

I didn't mean that with any level of intensity and I am sure that Keith didn't make his comment with any level of intensity either.

Speaking of "A Bigger Bang"... What do you suppose inspired that album title? Could it be tied in with the intense emotion of Miss You or the Mystical references in Shattered?

It has an effect on him? I thought he needed crack to be coked. An overdose for most is a feast for Keith.

The Rolling Stones with a deeper meaning?

Certainly, a little more Mick's influence in that department one would think.

Stones lyrics for me is just part of the music. Jagger needs words to sing but their poetry is in the collective sound. For the most part. It's what I listen to. The way he sings it, not what he sings.

Somebody once said one man's trash is another man's treasure. Seems appropriate here.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I have always had a desire to steer peoples taste in music. Not because I'm such a conservative and want everybody to be alike and think and like/dislike the same things, I've always been interested in music and listen to lots of stuff, popular and not so popular. I recommend..... ha-ha. But I doubt that Keith Richards loathe "Sgt. Pepper". I think 'rubbish' has something to do with how he want to make music. His musical visions. I know he is a fan of the melodic genius of Mozart. I bet he is a fan of McCartney but that he might disagree like with Jagger on how to 'treat the music' sometimes. I think.
