David Lynch Foundation Concert

Yeah, never mind he's singing out of tune, the soul of this is so huge, with Paul doing the backing vocals like in the old time!
-
Daily News piece was disturbing... I imagine the Post will be worse.. It's a shame that they were reviewing this solely as a rock concert. I guess they didn't get the memo that this was a benefit for a cause... minor things like world peace and happiness. I remember one other tidbit.. since I was on the right side, after A little help from my friends, Paul walked behind the big central screen after the song with arm around Ringo... And, BTW, for those of you who say Ringo sang out of tune (I didn't notice it so much) and that he "always" sings out of tune, just have a listen to his most recent CD "8" and you'll see that he not only can sing in tune but has much more of a vocal range than people give him credit for (without actually doing their homework).

That's right. Paul's backing vocal was beautiful as always And both Paul and Ringo looked really really great. And they seemed to be happy. Amazing view...

It was a great show and worth waiting for even through all the speeches. Seeing a Paul McCartney concert is always incredible to me. Seeing Paul and Ringo together was obviously what made it such a special ocassion. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with them performing together. Every time I attend a Paul McCartney concert I'm always wishing that Ringo would show up and perform, and now I finally got my wish!!
-
You may see this concert as a DVD as we were informed at the beginning of the show that it was being filmed and our attendance denoted our permission to use our likenesses. (Thanks Bob Gannon who reports this http://www.newsday.com/media/photo/2009-04/45992956.jpg

With A Little help From My Friends - yeah, Ringo sang lead on the original, so I don`t see what the problem is here. And he is always out of tune! Ringo and Paul have been on the stage together many times over the years, it was not the first time.
That's very true; Paul and Ringo have a fairly lengthy post Beatles resume' together - Furthermore, aside from the fact that it's always an event when Paul takes the stage, this doesn't exceed the normal 'big event' aura that Paul would typicaly bring with him to the stage...Ringo or not. I would not leave the hall thinking I just saw a Beatles reunion.
Well, i live in Italy and the only reason why on tv news they talked about this concert is that ex beatles paul and Ringo played togheter beatles songs. I think this is happening in all media of the world. Ringo and Paul had many collaborations but i don't think they sang togheter in a concert many beatles song and if it happened it was an event and i hope it was of more quality than the 15 seconds of with a little help from my friends i heard this time. i'm sure paul did his usual perfect performance with other beatles songs and for this There was no need to make this strange and false reunion of the beatles.
I find that this is not a Beatles reunion but just 2 very very good friends that used to perform together in a group (and have since the group broke up) that are onstage together. I grew up with The Beatles and would've given my eye teeth to be at this concert just to see this moment. Ringo is always out of tune but so what?!? Paul has been out of tune a few times, too but no one complains about it. Paul has always been my favorite but he is not perfect.
-
that is exactly what it was two friends singing together. It was very cool. Personally, when I see Paul in concert, I don't wish for Ringo. This was a special night.

http//jt.france2.fr/13h/ (click on the right of the video, "Londres/Beatles") Very short pro-shot excerpt of With a little help...! Ringo oops
-
It's a shame that Ringo didn't also perform 'Matchbox' with Paul and his band, as they did in rehearsal. Or Paul doing We Can Work It Out... which apparently was also done in rehearsal.
-
I agree. Why would anyone not want to see Paul and Ringo perform together? What 'myth' are they supposed to be ruining by doing so anyway? Let's have more of it I say! And correct me if I'm wrong, but Paul, Ringo and George 'did' reunite, albeit in the studio, and under the name 'Beatles'. This quite obviously was NOT a Beatles reunion but an EX-Beatles reunion - either way, who cares, just enjoy it for what it was! I can not see how this concert, and their performing 'Beatles' songs can possibly be disrespectful to John or George!? Who knows, if they were still with us, they'd possibly been up there on stage with them too! I'm sure they'd be glad Paul and Ringo are still performing together and share a great friendship. If other performers are 'allowed' to get up and play Beatles songs, what grief could you possibly have against Paul and Ringo doing it too - good or bad?! I'm really pleased for all of you who were lucky enough to be there, that you enjoyed the concert and many, many thanks for sharing your experiences!

The main web-site now has a new post of the set-list: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news.php?filter=2009-04&id=1591 Although we've got that already from attendees Hopefully more will be posted soon. Martin

I think you may be taking it a little too seriously...and missing the point of the concert.

Ringo's never been a strong singer.... and he's often off-key. But it's usually at least passable. I've seen several of Ringo's All-Starr band tours, and he does alright. But after watching clips all the clips from last night, Ringo sounded really bad. If they do indeed release the show as a live album or a DVD, I wonder if Ringo will be able to re-record his vocal track.

1 if you decide to sing in a concert togheter with Ringo some beatles songs you know in advance that this will be felt by media as an half beatles reunion. You know that your performance will have space in all media of the world only for this reason. So It's not a simple night of joy. 2 if you decide to have this half reunion for a so strange charity concert about the diffusion of trascendental meditation you can expect some astonishment. 3 if you really decide to gain space in all media in this way you can't put Ringo to sing because you have to know in advance that the voice of Ringo espicially at 70 can't be so perfect. To sing in studio is very different than to sing live. 4 if you were youngster after seeing on tv news that performance would you find any interest in discovering the beatles, would you give any more chance to buy a paul or a Ringo album? 5 john and george would be happy for this half reunion? John would have sung with other three mates at 70 years old to promote trascendental meditation? Didn't he write a song on the white album against the maraishi? These are the points why i'm afraid for paul. I hope with all my heart he won't be criticized by media and lose all the favour he gained with his last albums.

Ringo had a throat thing going on, lots of people in the area have had this throat virus that gives you laryngitis, plus the trees are flowering early here and if he has allergies that will do you in too. He said at the press conference he was badly jet lagged.

Jim Farber from the Daily News rakes EVERYONE over the coals, so I'm not surprised. Dan Aquilante of the NY Post was quite fair in his review.

Just got home. What a weekend! Took a train up to New York friday right after work. Got in my seat and noticed on the back of the chair in front of me, written in big block letters "All You Need Is Love". I laughed and thought to myself this is going to be one hell of a weekend. Got up Saturday morning and right after breakfast took a cab over to the Dakota. You could tell the Beatle fans were in town. Lots of people standing around with tears in their eyes, snapping pics. I then crossed the street and headed into the Strawberry Field section of Central Park. The park is beautiful. I can't believe it looks like that in the middle of New York City. No graffitti at all. On the way back to the hotel room I found 6th Ave closed down for the "Tartan Parade" or something like that. I've never seen so many pipe bands in my life. Was pretty cool! Headed over to Radio City about 5:30 PM. They made us line up on the side of the building which was annoying, but the place was beatiful when we got in and its definitely true theres not a bad seat in the house. I was really impressed with Eddie Vedder. I'll have to go get a few of his CD's. What a voice! Jerry Seinfeld was pretty funny and I usually don't care for his humor. Was busting on the NYC cabdrivers. He's right it was like a damm Nascar race from Penn Stattion to 57th Street. I got my wish and heard Paul introduce Ringo as Billy Shears and brake into "With A Little Help from my friends'. (Harley said she could hear me yelling up on the 1st mezzanie all the way down on the floor. : ) I won't re-hash the set list since everyone else has allready covered that. All I can say is that was incredible. I felt like I was in a Visa commercial. 2 nights in New York City- $500. 1st Mezz seat-$350. Seeing Ringo and Paul performing With A Little Help From My Friends _________________________________________________________ = PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
