I have to admit I find their albums very hit and miss compared to Paul's, Ringo's albums I can't listen to fullstop (sorry Ringo) and can't imagine anyone listening to one for pleasure. George's albums can be genius i.e 'All Things Must Pass', 'Cloud Nine' and 'Brainwashed' and then on the otherhand his stuff in the 70's bores me to death, I recently re-bought 'Extra Texture' and found it hard going with no tracks of note, I didn't even rip it to Ipod it was that boring. John's stuff is great but Yoko's contributions on many of his album's break the flow of what would be classic albums with 'Imagine' and 'Plastic Ono Band' being the proof. 'Double Fantasy' would have surely have been a classic without Yoko's contribution and tracks like 'Nobody Told Me' included. Paul's output obviously more prolific and over a longer period to John and George's, I find out of Paul's albums there is only 'Wildlife' that i don't particularly enjoy, which is good going considering the amount of original material Paul has released since The Beatles broke up. Just wondering what the boards feeling is on the solo output?

      Birmingham 1990,
      London 1990,
      Liverpool 1990,
      Working Classical, Liverpool 1999,
      Liverpool 2003,
      Manchester 2003,
      Sheffield 2003,
      London 2003,
      Birmingham 2003,
      London 2009,
      Manchester 2011
      Liverpool 2015

The only record I enjoyed from Ringo's solo records was "Ringo" - lol I agree with you about George but would add "Living In The Material World" was pretty good. As for John, totally agree with you. Yoko's contributions ruin most of the albums. I agree with you about "Wild Life and will add I hated "McCartney II" . My favorites have been albums like "CHAOS", BOTR", Tug Of War", Flowers In The Dirt" and Memory Almost Full".

        Maybe I'm amazed !!

I'm not a fan of Yoko's singing, but her songs on Double Fantasy are more consistently strong than John's. And the interplay between the two of them is what the album is about.

Can'y argue with 'Living in the Material World' a fine album, I suppose it starts sliding after this, is the 'Ringo' album an early one? I initially struggled with 'Mccartney II', but love it now, I have a love hate relationship with 'Driving Rain', can't make up my mind with that one! Bruce, big statement that, but everyone has different taste I suppose D

I'm not the biggest Ringo fan in the world, but he's got some great stuff if you take the time, and he works with some of the best musicians in the business. Here are a few random songs people unfamiliar with Ringo's work might want to check out. If you like them, you're going to love his solo work. If you hate them, you might not want to buy all his albums. from Ringo

              from Ringorama
              from Goodnight Vienna
              from Time Takes Time
              from Vertical Man

"is the 'Ringo' album an early one?" It is his 3rd album and probably biggest seller. It has songs like "Photograph" and "Your Sixteen" which were hit singles. It also had contributions from the other three Beatles including Paul & Linda who wrote and sang backup on "6 o'clock". John Lennon wrote "I'm The Greatest" which is also very good.

                Maybe I'm amazed !!

Yes. "Ringo" is still probably the strongest of his albums, but there are good songs on "Goodnight Vienna" and "Time Takes Time," for example. Plus a great song that George wrote for him can be found on "Rotogravure" (I'll Still Love You). and speaking of George, I LOVE his Dark Horse albums. My favorite George album after "All Things Must Pass" is probably "33-1/3," with "Dark Horse" and "George Harrison" following close behind. John - if you don't like the Yoko songs, then skip them. (Back in the days of vinyl, that was a lot harder to do. ). "Imagine" and "Walls and Bridges" are two of my favorites.

We were lucky. He wasn't hoarse in Atlanta at all.

I don't like much of George's material after Material World. The production is t0o heavy-handed, with too much brass/horns. Besides Ringo's albums, 'Extra Texture' might rank last in their solo albums. John's Mind Games & W&B suffered the same fate, imo.

People we're booing...thats what I've read. Having Ravi onstage at a rock concert probably not a good idea in the 70's.

By most accounts, it was pretty unfortunate. I didn't go, but a friend did and was pretty severely disappointed. Two years later he and I went to Wings Over America (in San Diego) and had a blast.

I went to the bathroom during Ravi's set! But like I said in my earlier post, George sounded fine in Atlanta and everybody loved him. God, it's so hard to believe it will be 43 years this year since that concert! I was 19!

Unfortunately yes. Too much Ravi Shankar and George's voice was in bad shape. Plus he changed the arrangement and lyrics on songs like "Something" which did not help.

                                    Maybe I'm amazed !!

He sounded terrible in NY and it was such a letdown to me after he had done such a great job at the Bangla Desh benefit concerts years earlier.

Was the George tour that bad?

Unfortunately yes. Too much Ravi Shankar and George's voice was in bad shape. Plus he changed the arrangement and lyrics on songs like "Something" which did not help.

And in "In My Life" he changed the lyric to "In my life, I loved God more."

Double Fantasy should've been called Single Reality. And only contained John songs. With the "leftovers" from that session or time added on, at the expense of Yoko's songs. I love all John's songs from that album. It is a beauty. Not sure if it was ready to go at the time, but Nobody Told Me is one of my favorite John songs ever. Dynamic. Bouncy. Brilliant. Imagine is a great album. Gimme Some Truth and Oh My Love. What songs. So too the underrated debut. "God" is just a delight to the ears and lifts all sorts of stuff out of my stomach and heart every time I hear it. Emotionally powerful. One of his greatest songs. And I think Cloud Nine from George was a great comeback. Wonderful album. All Things Must Pass of course great. I cannot comment on Ringo's solo output. For whilst I have all the Beatles, John and Paul albums, most of George's..... I do not have one single Ringo album. Love the guy, still. But I do like "Wrack my Brain."
