WHY are you a veggie?
-
DawnD:
I think that it would be cool to have a pet chicken, pig or cow!
OMG ... me tooooo I've been saying for years, when I finally get my own place (house preferably, but whatever I can afford!!) I'm gonna get a micro-pig, or if I marry a man with land (ahem ... James McCartney!! ... hahaha ) I'd love a pet cow xxx

Are you a veggie just because Macca is
-
Not yet! I plan to be once I've left home though, as I don't want to be a burden by being veggie. I do have Meat Free Mondays, and have done for over a year now, and that is because Paul "told me to". However, I do also believe that being veggie is a good idea, and killing animals is unnecessary.
-
ah as a veggie and Macca fan I have that tag stuck to me everytime I'm around my friends/family or new people that arent Macca fans or veggies. I've been a veggie now for 4 years, I think my love for Paul opened up the idea to it, but I think really to stick with being a veggie you have to have your own reasons for it, so much bigger than liking a musician, I had to really think about it and whether that was the right direction for me to go in. So I temporarily took on the challenge, see if I could take on not eating much, I used to eat a lot of meat with my family so it was quite a big step and not one I have regretted...I think if I only lasted a few months it probably would have been because Paul is a veggie, but I have my own views why I do not need to eat meat which is nothing to do with Paul

ah yes it is stuff like that I miss, thats the hard part.I still have thoughts sometimes that I wouldnt mind tucking into stuff like that, but I normally overcome that. However its mainly when I am hungry that I feel like that

Lions eat meat, dogs eat meat, cats eat meat, thrushes eat meat.....it doesn't do them any harm. I'm not a big meat eater though, just fish really and very occasionally white meat. I do love my salads which i have as a main meal, five times a week, all year round. But to answer the topic question, i'm not a veggie and even if i were, i wouldn't have been influenced by Paul.

Sounds a lot like me in both your theory and food choices - red meat is almost all but purged from my diet but will eat chicken and fish

I don't think lions eat meat from animals that are stuffed with meds and hormones They eat the real deal. People don't.

However, from the best I can tell, a vegetarian due to animal rights reasons isn't concerned with 'real deal' - if you eat meat with or without hormones, you're still eating an animal. The dyes, hormones, etc are just additional ammo for their fight.

I am a vegetarian because I love animals. However, I must make an admission that I feel badly about. A couple of times this past year I have felt under the weather, just had no energy, and a family member suggested it was because I was not eating meat. I backslid and actually ate meat 2-3 times this past year. Just a few bites...and it just made my digestive system go haywire. It did not help me at all. And I felt badly about it physically and mentally. I can't even mention what animal it was, as I feel so bad. Have any vegetarians out there done this? I try to take more vitamins and stuff to supplement my vegetarian diet now. * I have been a vegetarian for years now so it was not like I just started.

Family members saying that you're sick because of not eating meat, I know all about that 3 years after I became I vegetarian I was sick a couple of times a year as well. I had to listen to the same story. I did not respond to it And it never happened again. That you get sick of have a lack of energy can have tons of reasons. If it's because you're not eating meat, I think you should suffer from it all year long. Since that's not the case, I doubt it has to do with not eating meat. Do you take extra vitamins like those pills they have? On a trip to the US they once gave me a real hamburger instead of a veggie burger. Since I'd never eaten a hamburger so I didn't know what a real meat one tasted like (plus all the crap like mayo and ketchup that was on it) I had no idea I was eating meat. Till 5 minutes after dinner. I felt so, so, so sick. I never felt that bad before. My friends wanted to take me to the hospital to empty my stomach but I didn't want that. I felt really, really sick for 3 days in a row, was in bed all day, couldn't eat (didn't want to either). My whole body was upset cause it had no clue how to digest meat. So I know how you feel when you say eating meat to make you feel better didn't work Don't eat meat, just make sure you eat extra other stuff that has some of the products that meat has extra in it, like iron. But do not eat meat!!

Thanks so much! I feel better since you posted! No, I will never eat meat again! I have always been borderline anemic so now I take my iron supplements everyday, and get b-12 shots every month as I have hypothyroidism. I also religiously take a packet of vitamin supplements everyday. And no matter what I will not let anyone influence my choice of foods to eat!

I became a vegetarian, because there is no need to threat animals they way many of them are threatend. There is no need for any animal suffering and murdering! As people we are not allowed to kill other people, so why are we then allowed to kill animals. They are also alive and do have feelings. At least I can walk past a field with cows without feeling guilty. I'm a show jumping rider and many times I have the feeling that the horses trust me much more, because they can sense and smell that I don't eat any animals. They feel safer. Next to eating no animals, i don't eat/drink diary. Just a small amount of eggs, but only the ones from chicken who are having a free life.

I became a veggie when I was about 14 or 15 and just decided that eating another being's flesh wasn't right. To be honest, I never really liked red meat, but did eat chicken (eugh, to think about it now!) and fish, but after cutting out red meat, the removal of white meats seemed a natural step, and somewhat easier. Shortly after that came numerous meat related health scares in the UK, so what initially seemed a wacky lifestyle choice was suddenly something people asked me about. During a summer job from Uni, I worked at a country park and looked after some farm animals including pigs and goats, and again, it just felt as if my choice not to eat had been reaffirmed. I have often thought about going a step further and becoming vegan, but I think that would be a step too far for me, although just recently I have been trying to introduce more natural teas than lattes and swapping soya for dairy. Of course, it's amazing the amount of people who don't actually understand what a vegetarian is. I had a 'vegetarian' Xmas meal at work, and there was salmon on the plate. Similarly there's been a few occasions where they've put ham in various sauces and I've luckily spotted it before I've eaten it! Ew. I think I would throw up had I eaten it. On the health front, I've been very lucky as far as health goes with low cholesterol and low blood pressure, which have probably been aided by having a vegetarian diet for most of my life, although my blood pressure is very low and around the same as a toddler's which matches my mentality

A combination of things (as always). I had a pet duck as a child. I loved that duck so much. I "taught" him how to fly because he had no mother to teach him. I spent all my time running around the open fields with that duck. To this day I have to stop in my tracks if ducks fly over and watch them. I always pretend I see and hear mine. Needless to say I would never eat one. I never had my own cow but a neighbor did. It was always getting out and terrorizing the neighborhood. You would be sitting around kinda bored and hear a neighbor lady yelling her head off because the cow got out and was eating her flowers or peeing in her yard or whatever. It was always great fun to go see what she was yelling about and watch all the adults get the cow back home. I've always loved cows. I've always loved their big black eyes, so soulful. How can you gaze into those eyes and not be thinking "I will never eat meat again". Animals, in general have all taken on a more important role in my life than other people might give them. Now adays I worry what will become of the cows? Are they going to be phased out completely just because they have gas? I hope they will not be eatten but still be around for they are beautiful animals.

Hello there. I'm new to this place and find it awfully addictive and fun so far. Anyways, I became Vegetarian only a few months ago and I feel so much better. I'm not always tired and have a ton more energy. I felt like when I ate meat that I was slow and groggy all of the time. Anyone else have that? I was kind of naive about it before I guess because I was watching a HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) video on YouTube about a pork slauterhouse with gestation crates and it was the grossest thing I have ever seen. That immediately converted me. I am no longer naive and refuse to eat any of it!

Funny reading back on my post from a few months back, as I've actually been vegan now since the 3rd January. What I thought would be tough has actually been quite easy for me. Thankfully Edinburgh has a good few places to pick up vegan foods (vegan haggis samosas mmmmmmm) including one which is on my walking route to work in the morning, so I can always fill my bags early morning and be ready for the day ahead. I've lost a stone since then too (it was there to lose!), and feel much better for it. I did have a bad kidney infection about a month back and had all the sceptics tell me smugly it was because I don't eat meat or an other animal related products. Of course, it was nothing to do with that, but the barbed comments kept coming from those who assume that anything other than 'chips with everything' is an inadequate diet! There was also a massive fall out about a team away day at work over me being a vegan - long story, but ended up with me staying in the office for the day after I'd organised it all because one of my colleagues made jibes at my eating choices. HR were involved, all very messy, and all because someone just couldn't tolerate my lifestyle choices. What I have enjoyed most of all is learning to cook different things. It's very easy to stick to the same food time and time again, but I've tried lots of new things of late, the majority of which I've enjoyed.

its okay if your a millianaire with a cook or people to prepare you balanced healthy veggie meals. however in my experiance i find vegetarians have very very poor diets [in general] for a start they are always snacking because there NEVER full. i think alot of veggies make the mistake of thinking that they must be eating healthy when they are not. although i full support anyones decision to not eat meat.
