Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.

I fogot to include No More Lonely Nights, so I went back and added it, it's one of McCartney's best ever and he should be performing it.
Very true......and sadly overlooked. I have incredibly fond memories of that song and seeing it played on MTV over and over in 1984/85. Beautiful song, one that should definitely be included into any concert he gives. It evokes everything that was good about 80's music.
-
The only thing I wouldn't want McCartney to change about my setlist is the encore, those three songs performed back to back like that would be hard rocking heaven! To me, No More Lonely Nights evokes everything that's good about music period! Also this type setlist would be fresh and would at least make people think differently about McCartney being an oldies act. Most of the songs may be old, but his actual show wouldn't be!
-
lefthandman, i smiled at the first song on your set list, 'Ive Had Enough'! Seeing as how you have clearly had enough of Paul's Set List! (only joking). Your list is very good, but don't think Paulwould do some of them now.
-
Linka, I didn't even think of that connection, I was just listing songs that hadn't been done to death and that I thought people would like. Now that you make me think of it, it does apply! Why don't you think McCartney would do some of these songs? He performs more obscure songs than any of the ones I listed?

I love that you included "The Mess" because that is one of my all-time favorite Wings songs. I just love the energy of that recording.

DavidP, that's just it, people are starting to groan when he plays those songs!
I've read quite a few of the left hand man rantings on this topic, but this comment destroys any shred of credibility for him. From here on I'll just skip over his comments.
I was at Anfield, and the groans were very audible when he launched into Long and Winding Road, C-Moon, Let Me Roll It... I saw it first hand. It is happening.
That's just bull.
With all respect I was there seated in the Kop, and the groans around me were real and they were AUDIBLE.
Oh please, we're not THAT stupid to believe your story.
I agree - there's no way that happened...and if by the off chance it did, it was a very isolated incident. .
Exactly - it was a very isolated incident, but it happened.
-
DavidP, The Mess is also one of my all time faves by Wings. That song would rock any crowd, that's why I don't agree with those people who say that McCartney could perform these songs in a small setting. The Mess is a stadium worthy rocker! In fact most of those Wings rockers are! Paul McCartney may have had the big stadium tours in mind when he wrote them. See guys this is yet another reason why I continue to say that McCartney should change his setlist, if we love so many of these very seldom performed songs (in most cases never performed songs) just imagine how many other people around the world love them just as much? If McCartney would just perform them, he would see how much people love this music!
-
all his music is a huge treat, beatles, wings, solo, whatever. he's my very favorite singer & song writer of all time.
-
Yes, no matter what he's playing, you don't see people staying away. Seems like he's the biggest draw in the world this year!

I haven't been on this site for a while, and I CANNOT believe this thread is still going with the same old stuff being said!! : Sorry if i'm being out of order, but has it not all been said before?! Months ago, since the day after the Liverpool gig, all this was being said, we all know what people think. Paul is not going to read this thread and think, oh well, if that's how some people think, i'll better rethink my setlist. Paul will always play the songs he always has, and that's that. Goodnight.

Forum. n. Place of public discussion.

yes, but the same subject gets harped on repeatedly like beating a dead horse. so most people would know where christine macca was coming from.
-
If people still have thoughts about it or for that matter still want to discuss it, what's the big deal? This is the appropriate place for it! How many times has someone said they think McCartney is fantastic? would you tell them ok stop don't say that anymore you've said that already? Every single thread on this forum has someone saying that! Also we don't know when and if someone new might want to share their thoughts. Also I'm not going to assume what McCartney will read and what McCartney will think! I'm more optimistic, who knows what could happen. This is his official website, he just might take a peek and think hmmm! How do we know he hasn't already?

Paul....please play "No More Lonely Nights"!!!! One of the greatest love songs of the 1980's, in my opinion. Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to throw in a couple of those great "Flowers In the Dirt" tracks again, like "My Brave Face", or "Put It There".
-
DavidP, I absolutely love both those songs, but I don't want McCartney to perform them again. I just think he should do more stuff that he's never done, or hasn't been done since the 70s.
-
Left Hand Man - I agree with you totally. After 20 years of recycled setlists and nothing but the Hofner, wouldn't it be incredible to see Paul get the Rick back out (at least for a back-to-Wings set within his other usual set) and play "Junior's Farm," "Letting Go," and yes oh yes "Venus & Mars/Rockshow"? Will not ever happen because he is so set in his ways now, but what if by some chance.....
-
I agree. Paul should get back his Rickenbaker and add some Wings songs to the setlist.
-
The Hofner is him though isn't it? I will never forget the moment at Birmingham 2003 when he appeared in silouette with his Hofner held aloft. The crowd (Including me), went wild. We hadn't even seen him yet, just that silouette! I have never forgotten it and never will.
-
Linka, that is a very fantastic image! It's time for a change now! McCartney needs to totally refresh his live act, give the Hofner a rest, give the Beatle heavy setlist a rest, show people that he can do much more than just crank out Beatle songs, there was a time when he did this. It's time for McCartney to stretch out and really put on a new show, new fireworks, new stage props, new outfits, and of course totally new songs! I'd love to see McCartney play the drums, wouldn't that be great? Imagine the show has been going along, and then the lights go down, all of a sudden at the back of the stage a huge Wings emblem lights up and McCartney comes stepping out with the Rickenbacher and all you hear are the opening riffs to the song I've Had Enough and then McCartney and his band rip thru a 10 song rocking set of Wings classics! I think the crowds would go crazy and be totally thrilled!
