Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
-
Paul McCartney has been performing the same core Beatle songs for the last twenty plus years, that is fact!! It's also totally boring! I didn't attend McCartneys last tour for that very reason, and I have absolutely no problem missing the upcoming one if it's just more of the same old same old, because really there's nothing to miss!

I saw Paul in the UK in 2003 in London, and the following year in Lisbon,Portugal. If my memory serves me right, there was quite a few setlist changes. The new songs were She's A Woman,You Won't See Me,For No One,In Spite Of All The Danger,Helter Skelter,I Got A Feeling,Get Back,Flaming Pie,Got To Get You Into My Life,Drive My Car and All Things Must Pass and others i have forgotten probably. The 2003 show had a few changes from '93 too.Hello Goodbye,Getting Better,Blackbird,You Never Give Me Your Money,Here Today,Something,Let 'Em In,Birthday,Two Of Us,I've Just Seen A Face,Back In The USSR,Your Loving Flame and She's Leaving Home, a highlight. Having been to the '89/'90 tour also, that differed reasonably set wise from '93. The usual suspects have been there also,so it's time for there semi retirement.

left hand man, everybody on this board knows your position. I don't know why you have to post the same message over and over. It's "totally boring."

She's leaving home would be an awesome song to hear live. It's one of my fav Beatle tracks.

I suppose it's hard not to be selfish regarding Paul's gigs.It is always more of a thrill hearing a song you love for the first time, live, than some you have heard on numerous occasions.

Good point Boycie. For me on Sunday was fantastic since it was the first time. Maybe next time I might be a bit more picky. I suppose it's like listening to an album several times that there comes to a point when you get rather sick of hearing it and you play another album. Although it's not quite the same as a gig, but the idea is the same (if you know what I mean).

Yes - and factually inaccurate!

I think you are missing the point about the setlist. Some people would like to see McCartney embrace his whole career more in a show. Most of the changes the 89 to 93 tour were songs from his latest release at the time of those 2 tours. The 89 tour had songs from "Flowers In The Dirt" and 93 tour had songs from "Off The Ground".

Yankeefan7,i do realise that a lot of fans want a more balanced setlist.I would prefer it that way myself. The point i was making, is that it's not been the same songs for twenty years,as some seem to be implying.

You are absolutely correct. All you have to do is check the "Live" records from McCartney tours and you will see a difference. I think some are implying that a bunch of the Beatle songs are on every tour and some could be dropped. For example, " Let It Be", "Long and Winding Road", "Hey Jude", "Yesterday" etc do not have to be played on every tour. I have been a McCartney fan since I saw him as a youg guy on the Ed Sullivan show. I have seen him on every tour in the US and have traveled some distance at times to see him, I would honestlyconsider not seeing him again and paying a very high ticket price to see a show that may have 4-5 songs different than the last time I saw him. The other thing that I wonder is doesn't McCartney and the band get bored playing some of these songs over and over again. I recently saw Bruce Springsteen and his show was completely different from other times I have seen him. Bruce also seems to enjoying playing a good portion(5-6 songs) of his latest record (Magic) which was nice to hear.

I think that a lot of you are missing the point here. Macca, if you have followed his televised appeareances since 2002....he's been playing the same numbers. From the superbowl, to LIve 8, to liverpool 8, to glastenbory, to secret gigs 07. Fans in kiev for instance, are voting and try to convince macca to change his set list. I think that's such a great idea. If we don't let him know that what he is doing is not that cool, he 'll never change his set list. Fans in kievs and all over the world have spoken, and this is the standing as of today for the top requested songs for macca to play: Mrs. Vanderbilt (25%, 4,253 Votes) London Town (21%, 3,448 Votes) Pipes Of Peace (15%, 2,466 Votes) Hope Of Deliverance (9%, 1,540 Votes) All My Loving (9%, 1,480 Votes) My Brave Face (9%, 1,446 Votes) Yesterday (7%, 1,203 Votes) No More Lonely Nights (7%, 1,195 Votes) Your Mother Should Know (6%, 1,079 Votes) Tug Of War (6%, 1,070 Votes) Hey Jude (6%, 991 Votes) Let It Be (6%, 970 Votes) Oh Darling (5%, 910 Votes) Silly Love Songs (5%, 824 Votes) Back In The U.S.S.R. (5%, 766 Votes) Wanderlust (4%, 751 Votes) Obladi Oblada (4%, 660 Votes) All You Need Is Love (3%, 571 Votes) Michelle (3%, 461 Votes) Ballroom Dancing (3%, 445 Votes) Freedom (3%, 421 Votes) Girl (2%, 407 Votes) We Can Work It Out (2%, 399 Votes) Can't Buy Me Love (2%, 336 Votes) We All Stand Together (2%, 302 Votes) Eleanor Rigby (2%, 268 Votes) The Long And Winding Road (1%, 234 Votes) Band On The Run (1%, 216 Votes) Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hears Club Band (1%, 200 Votes) Maxwell?s Silver Hammer (1%, 174 Votes) Penny Lane (1%, 172 Votes) When I?m 64 (1%, 159 Votes) Paperback Writer (1%, 143 Votes) Lady Madonna (1%, 141 Votes) Birthday (1%, 125 Votes) I Saw Her Standing There (1%, 120 Votes) Helter Skelter (1%, 115 Votes) Blackbird (1%, 112 Votes) Live And Let Die (1%, 107 Votes) Drive My Car (1%, 98 Votes) Get Back (1%, 87 Votes) Jet (0%, 71 Votes) Magical Mystery Tour (0%, 28 Votes) source: http://beatlesinmylife.org.ua/competition As you all can see.....fans all over the world are tired of the same old songs: ex: drive my clar, blackbird, lady madonna, c moon, jet, let me roll it etc....

we are not asking of a set list revolution here. but to emulate other act formulas.... U2, the stones, bruce springsteen for example. they keep the core warhorse numbers.....which is fine but they alternate 5 to 6 different numbers of the lesser known songs: for instance....an occasional fan wouldn't have complained if he or she didn't hear Flaming Pie or C moon in liverpool. Macca could have replaced those songs with Letting go or About you. instead nothing, we got the same songs.....maybe macca doesn't like to rehearse new songs???
-
THis is the set list that would have worked a lot better in Liverpool: Ever presetn past Obaldi Oblada Can't buy me love Letting Go About you Mr Vaderbild All My loving In the world tonight (guitar) My Love(piano0) Beautiful Night(piano) No more lonley nights (piano)/ this never happened before Heart of the Country I will BLue bird Michelle And I love her Here there and everywhere Something Penny lane Band On the Run Beware My love Silly Love songs Live and Let Die Let it Be Hey Jude encore Yesterday A day in the life I saw her standing there HOw difficult was that to compose this set list?
-
well that has got about 6 toilet breaks in it for me.

Maybe macca doesn't know that some fans are sick of hearing the same songs over and over.

The same old tired setlist has plenty of toilet breaks in it!

Mrs. Vanderbilt is very likely to make a set list. Come on. now. that's the number one request. lol fans from all over the world have spoken, the critics have spoken about the liverpool show, and every review was glowing. This was the right show for this venue. It was for the city. maybe it time for some fans to stop going to the shows if they are so disappointed. Classics will never be admitted, and some news songs will be added and dropped, but the majority will always be the classics. Again, Kiev is a one off show, a place he has never placed, you better believe the show will be filled with classics, not London Town. (even thought that is something I would love to hear) Don't get me wrong, I would love to hear everything and anything. So that's why I'm not disappointed.
-
I will never ever understand how people can be satisfied with the very same exact core songs year after year after year, tour after tour after tour?? That show is already on how many DVDs, films, and CDs. McCartney needs to seriously do a tour that has never been done before, a tour that isn't already available in any form. A tour everyone will be anticipating for it's variety, surprises, differences, and fantastic music! Come on Paul, show people what you can really do and how fantastic your music really is!!

I think most people understand that the Liverpool and Kiev shows will be filled with the "classics". I believe that fans would like a little more change if he decides to tour again in US and Europe. I never understand why McCartney can repeat "C Moon" and "Let Me Roll It" numerous times but can't do "My Brave Face" or "Hope of Deliverance" again. MAF was Grammy nominated, lets hear 4-5 songs from it. (my favorites are "Only Mama Knows" and "House of Wax") I have heard "Yesterday" numerous times, lets replace it with "Bluebird" from BOR or "Rocky Racoon". Like I have said before, I am amazed that his band is not bored with playing this stuff repeatedly. I know they are getting paid and playing with McCartney is a honor but I would think it would be more fun for them to spice the setlist up a bit. BTW - Last time I saw Elton John, he opened with 7 songs from his latest record. Crowd enjoyed it and they still heard the "classic Elton hits later.

He's the one putting on the performance...he'll do what he wants. You don't like it, don't go. Simple as that.
