Paul, Come To Australia

Hi I saw Paul in 1997 and that was suppose to be sit down, but as soon as he came on stage, everyone stood anyway!!! People were standing on seats etc. If this tour is stadium, it will probably be seated, ( to start with anyway), Paul is not into moshes!!! The security at the '97 concert were pretty strict though, you could not leave your row. Anyway, no sense whinging PAUL IN OZ Cheers Chrissie
Where was this one? I don't recollect Paul touring anywhere in 97. HE was last in Australia 93, and scheduled to play Brisbane, but cancelled the QLD show at the last minute coz the council told him to ensure the noise was kept below some decibels or some such crud, so he said "up yours" to the Brissy sound police and slotted in an extra Sydney Entertainment Centre show. I'm certain he hasn't played Brisbane since 1975.

That would be so awesome if he came to Brissy. I think he has a relative here. It doesn't matter to me where he tours in Australia cause I'll be there. I too have my old Melbourne tickets and was so depressed when he postponed the concert. It does concern me though how the tickets will be issued ie I really would like the first few rows and as I'm quite short I have had some nasty people who will refuse to sit down for a couple minutes in various concerts. But I also understand that they have bought good tickets too and have the right to do so. But my dream is to be in as close to Paulie as I can be .
Wow, a realative? Really? That's pretty cool! Where did you hear that?

Hi there, Typo moptops, it was of course 1993!!! PAUL IN OZ. WOOHOO Cheers Chrissie

We also have the Lyric theater/ Performing Arts complex which I went to Ben Folds at, it was pretty big.
You mean QPAC? I didn't know it was that big! I've only seen some plays and a few orchestra school things there, and they were in pretty small theatres in the building, but like you said, I think there's bigger areas. Glad to see another Brisbanite around!

I went to The Phantom of the Opera there a few weeks ago and it seemed really big. But it'd probably be at Suncorp Stadium or the BCEC. I hope he does a show in Brisbane, I'm praying for it! I might not be able to go if he doesn't play here, I'll have to do some serious convincing to get mum/dad to let me go to the Syd/Melb one! excitement is building for me! can't wait until the dates are announced!! EDIT: I don't know about a relative but my friend who's dad lives in Perth does advertising or recording work with Paul, and he said he could get my friend and I backstage passes - but he said it was too much work.
-
Oh man, you went and saw the Phantom? Lucky! Our school was meant to see it but I don't know what happened, would've been great though! Suncorp could be awesome....do you reckon the convention centre is big enough? Probably easier to use the Entertainment centre though, even though it's the middle of bloody nowhere, haha! Don't worry, I'm sure he'll come to Brissy. Fingers crossed we both get tickets!

Ordered Brian Ray's album on the weekend. Been a lil broke, but I think he won me over with his gentlemanliness (if that's a word). Been playing files from his site and it sounds REAL good. Have a listen if you haven't already: http://www.brian-ray.com/

I heard that years ago now that he had a relative living in Brisbane so I don't know how true that is (actually it was when he cancelled his Brisbane concert thanks to the Lord Mayor Jim Soorley). I think the only Brisbane venues he could play would be Suncorp or Boondall Entertainment centre as all the other venue would be way too small.
-
What happened with him cancelling the last Brisbane concert? I don't remember hearing about that! I was probably too young at the time though, haha!
-
I seem to remember Paul saying on a few occasions he had a cousin "John" and family in Bne or Sydney. It was this cousin that he spoke with prior to cancelling Telstra 02, to "gauge the mood of the country after the Bali bombings." Allegedly on his cousin's advice, Paul pulled the pin on the Melb shows because he felt the "time was not right for a rock concert." Well, that was the official line... :

Or the Riverstage. It's the only one I could think of that needs a "decibell limit". I hope he does come here though, and I'll have extra money to spend on a good ticket since I'm not going to Splendour in the Grass now.

Apparently Paul Dainty was working with the Macca people after the cancellation of 02 trying to get him to come out, so I'd imagine it would be them bringing him this time, but could be wrong.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Chriska! Let's hope you're right!

DCE would be the frontrunner, but I know for a fact Mr Dainty and Co. were none too enamoured with the sudden cancellation in 02. The relationship might have soured. I suppose we will know when tour dates are announced.
-
Thanks Moptops! Yeah I can see why Paul Dainty might not want to be associated with this new tour, but you never know!
