Paul, Come To Australia
-
Sounds like he's willing so don't give up hope. From 2007:
"I have been dying to get to Oz for an awful long time," he said. "I am planning it. I am hoping for it. I would love to get down there because I haven't been forever. If we get down there, man, we're going to have fun."
-
I feel like it's got to be soon haha. 2011 for sure! Especially since he's visiting places he hasn't been to for a long time.

Its great to hear from another optimist!!! Paul will come, won't he?????
-
Hey...if Paul comes, then will he be more popular than Oprah???
-
hahaha I've been making the same comparison all week. Surely just as many people would turn up!
-
I am totally hoping he comes during 2011. and yes he would be infinitely more popular than Oprah
-
Sadly I don't think he would. Nice to see some articles mention he is "likely" for 2011. Of course we've heard it before, but the fingers are crossed! Saw the Eagles last week. Absolutely incredible!!!! So glad they played "Long Road Out of Eden"!!!!!!!

The Eagles, The Stones, U2, Muse, Elton, Neil Diamond, Leonard Cohen, Pink, The Police, Clapton, Billy Joel, Lady Ga Ga, Black Eyed Peas, Yusuf, ...etc, etc, etc...everyone tours here. Only one act I want to see here... Paul McCartney... and he refuses to come!

Well, he does like to follow the sun.

I wonder if he will go, as it seems he's pissed the Aussies off big time.Since Paul cancelled in 2003 his albums have done poorly in Australia, is this a coincidence, i don't think so.Most Aussie's believe his reason to cancel was lame, so they've decided to stop buying his stuff as a protest.
-
It was 2002, but that aside, sure he doesn't sell here, but neither does the Stones, Clapton, Elton, Joel etc...all those acts, and yet they still come. Not sure we're still pissed off...it's almost 10 years. The impression I get talking with people: hardcore fans and moderates alike is most people would see him if he came here and ticket prices were on a par with other major touring acts. I suspect what's keeping him away is his fear of a backlash from the 2002 Melbourne imbroglio. It's a shame because Paul has always had a ball when he's down here... Still...even Sinatra came back eventually! We must not give up hope!!!
-
Unfortunately, our media is so ridiculously obsessed these sorts of events. I can see Paul coming back only to have someone on Sunrise ask him about the cancellation last time *shudder*. Our culture is somewhat built on "not taking crap from anybody" - at least the media would like to tell us that, so who knows. Speaking for my age group (I'm 24), no one ever mentions him cancelling in 2002 - I guess we were all pretty young then - so he has plenty of goodwill among the younger folks. I think I'd cry with hapiness if he did a show here
-
Funny you mention Sinatra, moptops, who was all but run out of Oz on a rail after while touring there he publicly called Aussie media people all "whores" and "Pimps" and "hookers" and the like, the entire Australian press corps, and he kept on and on. He was obsessed with hatred of the world's press. I just read a big book on him. So, did Old Blue Eyes return after that huge brouhaha and scandal? How long afterward? Would like to hear about that, LOL I assume you know about that particular contretemps. Was the author Kitty Kelly exaggerating, or was it really that bad? Thanx for info if given Paul Mc. should take comfort in Frankie Baby going back, after THAT, and feel more reassured that he'd be welcome too. I feel he'd get an astonishing enormous reception from many thousands of Aussies. The experience would be spectacular for everyone Would love for Macca to enjoy Australia's beauty again.

Ah yes...Sinatra and Australia... Well - how much time have you got? He'd been here in the 50;s a couple of times, then 1962, I think...so far - so good. I know he was here in 59 to visit Ava, who was filming On The Beach in Melbourne with Peck and Astaire at the time. ANYWAY... 1974 and Ol Blue Eyes was back and out of self-imposed retirement (1971). He'd come over with his usual gang of heavies, and with the usual swagger. He perceived the press to be "disrespectful" of him all over the world, and things came to a head when one of his gang manhandled reporters and pushed a female reporter down some stairs. He'd called the press, "bums", "2 dollar hookers" and worse. The union demanded an apology, he declined and cancelled his remaining shows and tried to leave Melbourne. The unions refused to fuel his plane and Franky was left cursing on the tarmac, very cranky indeed. The head of the Unions (who later went on to be Prime Minister) brokered a deal where Frank would agree to one more concert and have it broadcast live around Australia, and then he'd be "allowed" to leave. Having said all that, the press did love to harass him. They goaded him. Soon after he played his famous Main Event concert at Madison Square Garden where he told the audience, "I just got back from Australia. I made a big mistake there - I got off the plane." Fast forward to 1988 and like MacArthur, he famously returned. Then again in 1989 and finally in the 90's. I do remember the infamous 1974 tour, and boy, did it make news back then! Nowhere in the world did the press give it back to Frank, like the Aussie journos, the way Frank liked to dish it out... We now resume normal McCartney transmission...

Thanks for satisfying my curiousity! Can't help but think it's kind of funny, in a way Sinatra could have enjoyed a lot of good press, even mostly good press, if he'd been able to tame his temper and play nice. Be smiling, charming and gracious, like Paul Mc. is-- Paul always has seemed to wish to behave well and make a positive impression, and be a people and press pleaser Then he wouldn't have to be embarrassed or upset when he reads about himself and sees all the pix of himself.

Hi Guys Havent posted for ages. Nothing much to say I guess. Still waiting for more news of an Aussie tour : Paul has always been good at benefit concerts, especially in the US. Why doesn't he do an Australian wide tour to raise money for the Queensland and Victorian Floods : : I am sure if New York's Hudson River flooded he would be there in a heart beat Sorry, being a bit sarcastic. I would have to be one of Paul's hugest fans. All we ask if for him to tour here before he decides to retire. Not too much to ask, is it : Cheers Chrissie
-
Chrissie, not sarcastic at all. Sadly, I feel the same way. I have for 10 years. I just want to see the thread up there in the hope that Paul's people will see the name "Australia" and maybe decide it wouldn't be that bad to do shows here. I've seen a few Paul shows overseas recently, and i just want to be able to share that happiness with my friends here. I don't care if it's a tour or just one Aussie gig, please Paul (are you listening Barrie "Badger" Marshall?) Please! Please give us a Paul McCartney concert!!!!!!!

So glad that there are still people posting for Paul to come to Australia. Although I personally haven't been affected by the floods (except for a few minor adjustments to work, transport etc), I do have family and friends who have been affected. It would be so awesome if Paul came downunder to specicially lift our spirits with something very special ie his songs and voice. We are not asking him to do it for free! I really wish I had something to offer him to get him to take the long flight to Oz.
