Paul, Come To Australia
-
It frustrated Elvis Presley tremendously that his manager wouldn't schedule a world tour. Elvis was keenly aware of his international audience, and he eventually hated touring the same markets over and over again. As for Paul and Australia, I'm wondering if there's something personal regarding his apparent refusal to tour there. He's said in interviews in the relatively recent past that he's like to play there again, but, hey, Paul's a public-figure -- and public-figures aren't always the most forthcoming with the truth.

Presley's manager, Col. Parker, was an illegal alien in the USA. That's why he never booked Elvis outside the US. He did not want to be deported.

Robert Firstly, you don't know me so I would appreciate it if you didn't try to tell me how to think. I would refute your statement about Paul not caring about his fans. He would have to be the most approachable musician around, always polite and accommodating. Can I ask what you do Robert? You seem to have a lot of knowledge regarding the music industry. As I said in my last post Paul is never promoted here so I don't blame him if he doesn't feel welcome. His music is in my soul and I would love to see him perform again. If it is not to be no amount of whingeing will change that. Cheers chrissie

I agree that this year, after his Japan shows, will be the most likely time he'll come out and if he doesn't it's probably not going to happen which is a shame. If that's the case, I'd definitely try to save as much as I can and go see him somewhere else but it's not quite the same. I went to see Billy Joel in Sydney and when he did the whole 'Hello, Sydney!' thing I remember just thinking 'Aww, but I like Melbourne.'

Since USA dates are being announced, I doubt Australian dates will be after Japan. I suspect those would already have been announced. But you never know! There's always 2015!!

There are no plans for Paul McCartney to tour Australia.
-
Rob, oh yes you say it like it is and the truth can hurt. Thank god i went to tokyo to see him where we met you. All the money we spent to see the great man, flights ,hotels, merchendise, vip tickets..yep money well spent ,but hard earned. Mr McCartney can sit back and think..." YES THEY WILL TRAVEL FOR ME ALL OF MY CHILDREN HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" Come on money talks. I dont blame paul. (or do i ) its bloody scott rodgers and the d@#%^#@ds at marshall arts.If macca isnt making money neither are they........!

Yeah, I figured with the new American dates in August. So much for that dream, then. I actually think people would love to see him out here. In the last few years there's been a massive Beatles resurgence. Heck, even NEW went to #22 with zero promotion. Ah well, time to not buy anything for a year so I can go overseas to see him.

He is probably the wealthiest man in music, and he's almost 72. 72!!! How many more millions does he need? Can he not take a slight pay cut and give SOMETHING to his loyal fans here? Nuh. Selfish, selfish, selfish. Beyond obscene.

I have made this argument too many times about New Mexico. Why is it such a failure if he plays here and makes $1 million instead of $2 million somewhere else? The argument is always something like "He's McCartney, he deserves $2 million." or "It's business. He has to pay for his road crew." So that's that. I guess we have to respect that. Having said it, I still, for the life of my, cannot understand Australia not being on the itinerary. It's not a third world country!! Like New Mexico!!

Maybe this is how we get him to come here!

I won't travel for any concert anymore. I have seen Paul 8 times, I am very lucky and happy I did. But I cannot do it anymore. More power to those who can!

Well, I would prefer not to have to travel to see him (despite the fact that I think I'd enjoy travelling) but he's the best musician in the world to me, my idol and my inspiration and he ain't getting younger. I just want to see him at least once before he retires and I don't want to have missed my chance by not being rich enough to afford to go overseas to see him since I was 4 years away from being born the last time he was out.

Yeah the travel thing. I went to Tokyo last year. Totally glad I did, but we shouldn't have to. Everyone else manages to make it down. Even Billy Joel who is only really a part timer these days has been 2 or 3 times since Paul's last visit. Axl with his new GNR vanished for 8 years or something but has still been down 3 times since Paul's last visit. I love the man, but find it hard to take as well. As has been said, it has to be about the money and nothing else. Which is kinda sad when someone has that much of it already.

As an American who has been blessed with ample opportunities to see him, I feel guilty coming on here. Just wanted to point out something that I found interesting and applies to the situation being discussed. What is amazing to me is to look at the size of the venues he played in places like Scotland in the mid-1970s (I used to live in Scotland, so was curious about this). Places like Dundee, Scotland with a concert hall that held about 3,000 people, Aberdeen 3,500, etc. He couldn't possibly have made much out of those but yet they probably thought to themselves -"It will help sell the new album and revive sales of the back catalogue." With that in mind, I don't see why he can't be more flexible on what he takes in because there is always the undefinable amount of money he will earn from what we could term "Good Will" from long-suffering fans. Such has to be the case with "New" that came out last autumn. If he were to play Australia, it would perk up New sales that I am sure have flagged since then, as well as sending younger fans out to buy albums that came out when they weren't around. That fact that he hasn't played Australia since the 1990s? would only double the impact on album sales, concert t-shirts, etc. In the end, he would come out fine and everybody would go home happy. One things for certain, with his vast fortune he would never have to kick himself over not taking home more from a city or country he includes on the tour that didn't quite measure up to what he got from elsewhere.
