I love all the Aussie Rules talk. Haven't been to Australia yet, and I look forward to seeing some AFL games in Melbourne. Wanna bet I make it there before Paul?

I hope you get here. You'll be made very welcome. Melbourne during AFL season is our winter, though. Much nicer to visit during the summer.

As if I'd share anything with a Weagles supporter!

Year40, you gotta get to an AFL game. The best game in the world, and yes, I might be bias.... although, even objectively, it's the best game. Get yourself to a Collingwood game. The Mighty Black and White (the colours of unification). They/We draw the biggest crowds. Nothing like 90,000 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (incidentally, where Paul last played in Melbourne). And just to keep my mate Moptops happy, make it a Collingwood-Hawthorn game. You won't be disappointed.

Australia is warming up. Isn't it magnificent!?

Spring brings regeneration and hope. Hope for the future.

I've watched AFL on TV in the US for years. It is the best. Wipes out soccer, rugby and especially American football. But why are most of the teams in Melbourne? (I've kinda followed Fremantle and St Kilda the most.)

Melbourne is the home of football. Each state had/has their own football leagues and in 1990 the former VFL (Victorian Football League) morphed into a national competition, the AFL (Australian Football League.) So while the states still have their own leagues, the only big one is the AFL. Finals can be played at different venues in different states but The Grand Final (your superbowl) is always held in Melbourne, at the MCG ground, which is still the spiritual home of football, in front of 100,000 people.

Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria, just to clarify.

But out of 18 teams aren't like 10+ in metro Melbourne?

Affirmative. VFL was a competition of suburban Melbourne teams mainly. Geographically my team Hawthorn is next to Richmond. Those are suburbs beside each other basically just separated by a river. Melbourne clubs are born from the suburbs: Collingwood, St Kilda, Essendon and so on. So the fierce VFL Melbourne suburban rivalries still exist in modern AFL football terms. Google will explain more fully but sounds to me you've got a good handle on it anyway!
