Paul, Come To Australia

Fly Paul Fly to Australia:
Perth has a great new venue the Perth Arena which has attracted many big name acts who in the past would miss Perth out completely like The Rolling Stones. I am sure that other major cities such as Adelaide and Brisbane have great venues for a Paul show as well as the usual Melbourne and Sydney spots. Any news or links at all to do with the possibility of a tour please please share on this post
Well, here's a fun game to pass the time. At which venue would we all like to see Paul if (fingers eternally crossed) he does come here. I'm from Melbourne and the obvious one is Rod Laver Arena and there's always the MCG for a stadium. Of course he played Festival Hall with The Beatles in '64 (which Ringo came back to a couple of years ago) and Sidney Meyer Music Bowl with Wings in '75 but I reckon they'd be way too small for him these days.
Rod Laver Arena. Don't discount AAMI Stadium. Springsteen and the Foo's played there.

What was that one's old name? Rod Laver was Telstra Dome, I think which would make AAMI Etihad?
-
AAMI stadium is a relatively new purpose built stadium for soccer. ETIHAD was formerly Telstra Dome or Colonial stadium. ROD LAVER ARENA was formerly Tennis Centre. 3 seperate venues. As far as a stadium venue goes, AAMI would be best. It's relatively intimate. Nothing like an MCG situation. Of course the dream venue is the Rod Laver Arena.

Oh, is AAMI stadium the one near Richmond that actually looks like it's made out of soccer balls? I think I've got a handle on it now. It's hard to keep track of all these name changes.

Yep that's AAMI, with the weird roof on the left side of the tracks as you head into the city.

Apparently, Richard Wilkins said on the Today show that Paul's people are in Australia talking to promoters. (This was mentioned on another forum.) Sounds promising!
-
when did dicko say this? also i am sure that promoters have been in talks off and on for years but remain as hopeful as ever, the aussie public dont need to be teased again if they fail to arrive at an outcome

I didn't see the show myself so I'm not sure what day it was broadcast, but I believe it was in the last few days. I too am sure that there have been talks at various points since 2002, but are you aware of any previous talks held on Australian soil? And are you aware a previous time when Paul's people have inspected venues across the country? I haven't heard of either of those things happening here previously, so I think there's more reason than ever to be hopeful.

Well, hopefully we "Won't Get Fooled Again". Wait, wrong band. Dammit.

I was just watching the Norman Gunston interview when Wings were out in '75 and came across this comment on the video: "I was born on the night that Wings were playing here in Melbourne, my parents said that you could here them from the hospital room...... perhaps this is why I am a fan .... it was my very first introduction to music." I don't know why but it struck me as very magical. And if any overseas chaps haven't seen it, it's a hoot. I've always wondered whether Paul & Linda knew it was comedy.

Those Myer Music Bowl shows were LOUD. You could hear from Flinders Street Station.
-
Anyone heard anything else lately? Getting excited at the possibilities!
-
Pretty quiet from where I sit, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
-
I suppose it's too much to hope that it's the quiet before the storm. I reckon the thinking behind this thread for the last 12 years (I think that's right) is to just keep it bubbling at the top until someone up top sees it.
-
IMO Paul has reached critical mass for shows in 2016. I may be wrong. But about 30 shows a year seems to be his pattern, and he as reached that number already for this year. Maybe Australia will get some shows in 2017. He does tour every year, after all.
-
I'm anticipating a tour announcement this year for a series of shows early next year.

Cool!

I hope so please Paul

http://musicfeeds.com.au/features/australian-exclusive-qa-sir-paul-mccartney/ Hard to know if there was a "no questions about an Australian tour" clause, but if not, this is disgraceful. On a better note. Any info you can share with us Moptops as to what would make you say what you did above?? Interesting!

I have got to say that lack of tour questions aside I am chuffed the fact that there have been "features" around recent Macca releases in the Aussie press is a suprise, there was nothing around Driving Rain, Chaos or Memory Almost Full, that I can remember. This could be a small ploy to get Macca out there a bit to refresh the memories of the casual listener that he is still out there making music as there is a lack of airplay of his new stuff or tv specials and the like, his music simply isnt promoted near enough as it is in markets that he regularly plays live in
