http://www.rockwerchter.be/en/news/detail/paul-mccartney-at-rock-werchter-2016 http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/paul-mccartney-announces-first-live-shows-of-2016 A drumroll and a fanfare! Rock Werchter is laying out its reddest carpet to welcome a very special guest. Paul McCartney, the ultimate in rock aristocracy and a name without which the festival history could never be complete. He will be performing on Thursday 30 June. On stage Paul McCartney continues to amaze audiences around the world with his epic sets packed full of classics and hits. The opportunity of watching Paul and his excellent band is not to be missed! Paul McCartney: "We?ve been having so much fun at different festivals around the world in recent years and I can?t wait to get to Belgium with the band for our first festival there. I?ve heard such great things about Rock Werchter so I know it?s going to be a big night of rock'n?roll and partying to remember." Rock Werchter boss Herman Schueremans said: ?The number 1 on my wish list. Paul McCartney is one of the last really big names to be missing from our rich festival history. Sometimes such a high profile visit is purely a matter of luck. The artist must be performing and the diaries have to fit. This time it all worked out. Every generation has its McCartney classic. He has inspired so many musicians, and is still doing so today. I am looking forward to the concert."

Will it be a festival duration concert (shorter than usual, about 30 songs) or a full-length show?

A tad shorter, but not much: for example, Metallica played almost 2,5 hours in 2014 at Werchter. I expect, but I'm merely assuming here, that it will be a full set, but with one encore.

I've looked at the setlists of both Lollapalooza and Buffalo in 2015, festival setlist is 10 songs shorter (including Yesterday, Temporary Secretary, Another day...) and with 1 encore. On the other side, you can get a really good position (I guess) with an half price ticket compare to a full-length show ticket. I'll wait until the additional EU dates will be announced (with the new tour, my guess - this month/early next month) and then I'll decide if to go to one of these concerts. I'm leaving Europe on early-mid June so I hope there will be a bit earlier dates.

Whoops, didn't know that he besides the merged encore played up to 10 songs shorter at festivals. He will have carte blanche at Pinkpop, with even a dance act after the headliner, but at Pinkpop he's then definitely going to cut out a lot.

Well, that's my problem with festival concerts, if it was a full show there is no doubt I would go

Lolla was shorter as expected, based on the time other headliners go on and the curfew. I guess they could potentially give him an extended slot. As for getting a good spot, it's definitely possible. You just have to be very patient in dealing with people trying to push in front of you all day. That said, when he does festivals there's usually a soundcheck the evening before. I got to hear a free soundcheck of about 1.5 hours with about 20 people at Lolla...even though security kept shooing us away 😉

I've heard a free soundcheck at the night before (it was quite late) too in Tel Aviv, about 2 hours and it was fantastic, and at the end, Paul stopped his car, shook my hand and I was lucky even to be in a photo with him

Anyone attending: watch the festival's website for news. Problems with parking space due to heavy rainfall (I can't remember since when because it never seems to stop raining anymore).

I'm going (from UK). I was in Psris last month too. Rock Werchter tickets include a return train ticket from any Station in Belgium to nearby Leuven, then shuttle buses out to the festival site. The front sections have hard flooring so no mud, though it might be wet. I plan to queue up from 9am as I'm mad keen to get into the front section. I queued for 7 hours in pouring rain for general standing in Paris but it was well worth it

Just arrived in Brussels. I was waiting for my Eurostar train and Rusty Anderson was standing right next to me for 2 or 3 minutes. It was 100% definitely him - he was holding a US passport with his name on it. I didn't try to speak with him though. These people are entitled to their privacy and must get a bit peed off at times being bugged by fans. I didn't realise he was quite so tsl though. He looks amazingly young for his age - he could easily pass for 35.

actually, Rusty is very nice and you could have probably just said a quick "hello" and that you were going to the concert. He probably would not have minded that at all. Have a great time tonight!
