A Big Thank You From PaulMcCartney.com

Dustbin Lid:
It's just the truth, honestly expressed.
The truth, in YOUR opinion, expressed in an insulting manner.

This gets ever more ridiculous. We had the jukebox. We even paid for it! It was taken away, along with pretty much everything else that made the site interesting, without any warning, and now we have to ask to get some approximation of it back. Life is too short for this nonsense.
Absolutely agreed. It was a horrible move to basically delete the premium member section with no notice. There were people I was talking to on there that I didn't have access to on this forum, and our profiles, jukebox feature, and all of the fun stuff are now gone with nary a word aside from a "Thank you" e-mail. Such a bonehead PR move. Talk about adding insult to injury...

I'm not out to upset individuals. I'm attacking the original idea and had originally hoped that people wouldn't buy into it. The problem was that people did buy into it, because it allowed them to use money to gain leverage over other fans. I'm sure the main selling point of the premium membership to most fans was the idea of getting pre-sale codes for Paul's concerts. To me, there's not much difference between that idea and those who hand over obscene amounts of money to scalpers in order to get what they want. The motive is the same, greed. Using money to gain an advantage over other fans. It's neither pretty nor noble. As I said, I don't want to upset individuals, but I did want to express my opinion about the poor ethics of the initial idea and my happiness that they've scrapped the scheme. An individual's fandom should not be measured by how much money they can pay to the artist, because economically disadvantaged groups will suffer time and time again.

What a poorman's replacement the new 'music player' is for the jukebox feature. : :
That's exactly what AGreig means when he posts;
so please continue to post what functionality you would like to see and what functionality you enjoyed from the previous website.
If you'd like to see an enhanced music player akin to the Jukebox previously provided then post such a suggestion here. It seems MPL, having stripped away certain features, is genuinely keen to gather constructive suggestions as to how the revamped site should be developed to meet your wishes. Martin
The time for MPL to want to talk was weeks ago Martin, its that simple if you bother to work with people they will, generally work with you to get to a point that everyone is happy with the fact that MPL pulled the plug without consultation is shocking and if they where taking money through October then at best that's deceitful

Your first post did come over a bit "holier than though" to be honest this ones much better I would say this Paul isnt the first star to have a premium side to their site, far from it Bon Jovi place you can pay up to 200 dollars so its not new, just badly handled. I'd say this paying £32 a year is far,far better than paying god knows how much for soundchecks/meet and greets (on other sites) etc its frankly part of gig going nowadays sadly

Right on. They've been in beta for a year or so. They've changed little to nothing on the site in that time. Why the drastic switch NOW, with no notice to anyone until AFTER this new, crappier site gets launched? :

I'd ask you to read your above post again, the one that includes such words and phrases as these gems, and then come back and say that you're not out to upset people: "...you've all got more money than sense." "...your greed (I'm sure you prefer the term "fandom")..." I'm not saying you don't have the right to express your ideas, as you very much do. I do, though, think that being condescending and insulting while expressing those ideas is uncalled for. Simple as that. Oh, and yes, I had a premium membership, and no, I don't have money to spare. I'm a single teacher paying a mortgage, while still paying off my educational loans. I did, though, want access to exclusive content on the site (which we never really got, and which is now gone), and access to presales, which was a joke as well, as that also didn't really happen.

I said that what I was going to say wasn't going to prove to be popular! What I mean is that I have no interest in getting involved in personal attacks. I'm not out to upset individuals, but I stand by the opinions I've stated. I don't expect you (or anyone else) to agree with them, but, just as if I was expressing pro-Obama views and attacking the selfishness and greed of Romney's policies, I'd expect to upset plenty of Republicans. Expressing an opinion can annoy people, but I wasn't meaning to annoy or insult you personally, walliebaby. That's my point.

I hear you saying you didn't mean to insult anyone, but you did. Every person on this forum (and there are many) who are premium members are getting shots taken at them in your post. I can't exactly see how it wasn't meant to be insulting when you say those things, that's my point. Trash the premium member idea all you like, but you went after the folks who WERE premium members, as well.
-
Yes, because without those who eagerly signed up to it, it never would have gotten "off the ground" to begin with. I do hold those who paid the money for "Premium Membership" responsible for supporting such a distasteful idea. It would be difficult to separate the two - the idea and those who supported the idea.
-
Dear me, Dustbin Lid. What a warped view of people you seem to have. I'm sure that most signed up for the Premium content because they wanted to support what seemed like an interesting and innovative site. Anyone who feels that spending 10 pence per day on something confers some massive social advantage is a lunatic. The Premium content wasn't that expensive. If you decide you don't want to pay, that's one thing. I don't go to the cinema much because it is genuinely expensive for someone like me who is on a low wage. But I don't stand at the entrance jeering at people who do go, either. All this is beside the point, and if you don't agree, then I sincerely hope that the next time you spend your money on something non-essential, say, for example, a DVD, that it doesn't work properly and that the people who sold it to you then take it back with no explanation, and don't give you a refund etc.etc.etc. And then I hope someone else starts calling you an idiot and saying you deserve it for choosing to buy a DVD when there are people who might not be able to afford a DVD. Not really.

You might find being around Paul's fan forum uncomfortable then, as many of us were supporters this distasteful idea, and others that have to do with Paul, such as buying concert tickets and Paul CD's. We're a regular group of bourgeois fans around here, we are.

What rubbish, apu. Utter nonsense. You say that it's ten pence a day and it doesn't sound much when you put it like that, but there wasn't an option to pay that way, was there? It was a lump sum. An amount of money which would constitute more than a week's worth of groceries for a low-income single person. I am not someone on a low income, but I know plenty of people who are and who simply could not afford to pay such an amount for something as low value and non-essential as a premium membership of a website. You cannot compare it to the purchase of an album or DVD which is then owned permanently and will go on to provide a lifetime of pleasure (hopefully) to the purchaser. If you're sure that people signed up for it to "support an interesting and innovative site", then you're sorely mistaken. People signed up for the pre-sale codes, mainly. The rest was icing on the cake.
-
Why do people find it unacceptable to pay for extra features on a website but happily accept having to buy music, DVDs and merchandise? Just because it's online it doesn't mean it should be given out for free.

You're worried about low-income families not being able to sign up for a fansite's premium membership? Here I'd be more worried about low-income families having insurance and the basic necessities. I'm fairly certain that they have bigger concerns than whether they have access to buy concert tickets or see the one concert film that was uploaded into the premium content section of the site. And again, if you're not trying to insult people personally, you might rethink the first line of your reply to apu, and think about if your intentions are to express your opinion, or troll around for a fight.

Uncomfortable? No, I'm not threatened by people who have alternative views to my own. If the majority of people on this site bought into the idea (which, if I remember rightly they didn't), then more fool them. From what I can see, everyone seems to be regretting signing up for it now anyway.

I am on a very low income, and I could afford it. It's called "saving". Even people on a low income can do it. Amazing, eh Liddy?! And it didn't even take that long. Earth to Liddy - 40 quid isn't a huge sum of money these days. So climb down off your high horse, all the way down, that's it Liddy, you can do it, and try to get to grips with what the real issue is here.
-
So Dustbin Lid, what is your view exactly? That Paul is wrong to charge for the features or that people are wrong to pay for it?

Pretty much hit it on the head there, didn't you, Dr. Love Songs?
