As for Juniors Farm, I've never quite figured out why he doesn't play it. As for him not changing much since 2005 well that's not entirely true....he has added the two Fireman songs, and two tracks from Memory Almost Full and Lady Vandebilt and A Day In The Life, Give Peace A Chance and now Mull Of Kintyre for Canada. One must remember that the concert in Halifax was for the people of Halifax. Not for anyone else. If others wanted to travel some distance and come, well that's great, but this was an event for a place he'd never been before. To perform for people who had probably never seen a Paul McCartney show. Same with the event in Quebec, and in Israel, etc. It is interesting that the first-timers are NOT the ones complaining.
I'd go with your point, if Paul's style is to change his set list from city to city but he generally doesn't. I'd be stunned if this isn't the set list for the rest of the tour this summer. He is not one of those artists like U2, the Stones, Bruce, etc who mixes it up from city to city. Paul has a set list and he sticks to it. He said once its easier to do it that way, because of the stage show. Yes, he always does 3-5 songs from his new album. Yes he almost always does Kyntre in Canada. I recall he did Midnight Special in Texas once. But yeah it is pretty much the same set list from city to city. As for definitively knowing whether people leaving the show are complaining or not, how would either one of us know one way or another? We aren't doing exit polls when people walk out. And I don't think most of us are making the point that we would walk out of his show complaining, I'd prefer his set list to be different, but still I come out of his shows on a high, because its Paul and its a good time. Most of our points center on us thinking Paul can make his shows even better. And if you disagree, cool, but I don't get why we aren't allowed to make that point. I am not saying how dare you like this set list, its cool for you to like what you like, and in my opinion its equally cool for some of us to want it a bit different.

Bottom line is, if you're bored don't go, someone else will take your ticket. But if you've never been to a McCartney show before, you'd be pissed right off if he didn't play any of the above songs (although I suppose one could live without Lady Madonna). Live And let Die??? Of course he's going to play it, it's his biggest Wings song. Same with Band On the Run. And the list goes on. People want to hear the hits, and he delivers.
If you read my posts, I think I explain fairly well that its only half right about Paul's show being about the hits. If you follow his set lists over the years, he is basically covering almost every Beatle song he's ever done and if he keeps at this pace, he will cover them all. At the same time he hasn't done a bunch of blockbuster #1 solo hits since 76 or never at all. Ditto with a bunch of top 10 songs. Songs that people know. At least for some of us the issue is why constantly do obscure Beatle songs over blockbuster solo ones? And it doesn't ring true becuase that's what the audience wants. I really doubt they will walk out if he does Listen To What The Man Says over You Won't See Me. Most of us when making these points, aren't saying we won't go to his shows. It's like having a favorite restaurant, digging the food, but saying gosh imagine if they did this and that, be an even sweeter experience. I don't know why that point is so offensive for certain people. And in terms of most other artists mixing it up more -- doesn't the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Springsteen, Dylan, etc have people seeing them for the first time too? Are the people that come see Paul that radically different? Other artists must have many repeat audience members so that's why the set list changes more? But for Paul most of those that see him are first timers and those that see him don't want to see him again, except for some stragglers on this board ? I doubt it.
The Stones, Fleetwood Mac and even Sprinsteen don't change their set lists that much anymore either. By the way, Paul plays the Beatles songs because he LOVES those songs. It must give him a rush to hear 60,000 screaming fans every time he plays one. Having said that I think it's great that he's added a couple more Wings songs (Lady Vandebilt, Mull Of Kintye). Perhaps he'll add a few more. Interestingly, he must not really care much for "Listen To What The Man Said", as it wasn't even included in the "Wings Greatest" album in 1978 even though it was a hit song. He just never plays it anymore. Perhaps he doesn't like it??? His choice, I guess. I also wonder if all that negative press he received in the 70's and 80's (bad reviews, being called a "lightweight"), kind of turned him off on some of the music from that era. It's really too bad because I love his songs from that time period as well. With regards to the complaints about "I'll get You" that song was suggested to him by Brian Ray from what I read. He was the one who wanted it included into the set list a few tours back.

Hi,
femaleanimal:
He`s not going to replace Hey Jude with Motor of Love at these big stadium shows, and that would be incredibly disappointing to those who have not seen him before.
if you don't stop, I won't do either. No one said that he should drop "Hey Jude" or any other song everybody who hasn't been to Macca concerts wants to hear. We are only looking for small changes like ...
#1's: Silly Love Songs, Listen To What the Man Said, Admiral Halsey, With A Little Luck top 10's: Junior's Farm, Goodnight Tonight, Take It Away, Lonely Nights
Just EXAMPLES! Just PROPOSING! What's so wrong about saying that? But, I too won't get on your nerves anymore. I will put myself in isolation: http://macca.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=70645 P.S.: And that ...
femaleanimal:
The people who have seen him 5 billion times ...
.. is a really ridiculous exaggeration. Anyway:
Give up! You'll never win this one!

Never been to a McCartney show since he's never come to my part of the world. Though I live in Canada, Edmonton is quite a fair distance from Toronto, Quebec and now Halifax. Those of you who've been lucky enough to have seen him perform, not once, but twice, three times, four times, five times, really have no reason to complain since there are millions of people like me who have never even seen him (not picking on you specifically, but there are others on here who bitch and moan constantly, and it really gets sickening after a while.....you know, enough already!!!!) But you do bring up some good points and I respect your opinion. When the Rolling Stones came to my city in 1995 they had to add a second show being that the first one sold out in record time (110,000+) and Mick and the boys accomodated us. For me, I didn't care what they played that night it was just a thrill to be there and to watch these legends perform their craft. McCartney would be the same type of experience, for me.

I don't think so. The last time he "played" LTWTMS was on Feb. 27th, 1988 in San Remo:
And that was the last time he was seen playing his Rickenbacker bass. Those were the days, man! And in recent years he performed it privately with one of his biggest admirers: Ron Sexsmith. -

I got no complaints specifically about I'll Get You. Its the pattern of doing album track after album track off of Beatle albums, and forget matching that pattern with Wings album tracks (I know that's not going to happen), so I'd love it if he would match that with bonafide Wings hits. OK he does I'll Get You, Fixing A Hole, In Spite of All the Danger, I've Got A feeling, She Came Through the Bathroom Window, You Won't See Me, Mother Nature's Sun, I Will, etc. I am not expecting apples to apples equal coverage to general Wings or solo tracks but how about the hits? I truly go to each tour thinking what obscure Beatle song has he never done before and figure he's much more likely to do let say Honey Pie over a #1 hit like With A Little Luck. Heck I like most of those Beatle songs that I just mentioned. It just seems strange to me that he feels compelled to cover non hit Beatle songs much more so than hit solo songs. Don't see how the idea that Brian Ray wanted him to do "I'll Get You" makes a relevant point. It's like me saying well Rusty asked Paul to do Too Many People so that negates that as a case of him of doing a rarely done before solo song. He did those songs, I don't think he's forced to do anything. As for Listen to What the Man Said not making the Greatest Hits, ok, well it made Paul's All the Best, and then Wingspan so maybe he came around on that #1 hit So you think that's also the reason why he doesn't do #1 & top 10 hits like: Silly Love Songs, Admiral Halsey, With a Little luck, Juniors Farm, Helen Wheels, No More Lonley Nights, Take It Away, Goodnight Tonight, Spies and simply prefers to do stuff like In Spite of All the Danger, instead? There seems to be a calculation on Paul's part that people want Beatles Beatles, Beatles and lets do for the most part the same solo stuff, and throw the Wing fans one or maybe two songs to keep them happy. Your point if I follow it is if that thought or any thought that pops out of Paul's head at all times must be right or at least superior to what his fans think. Cool enough. I'll agree to disagree. And I am one of Paul's most vehement defenders on the board when it comes to anything but this. When it came to changing the song writing credits for Paul songs to McCartney/Lennon, I spent many hours defending Paul's case in some pretty heated exchanges. Likewise, I enjoy emailing and arguing with music critics who slam Paul. So am not just looking to pick on him here. He does a lot right for me with his shows, I just have some thoughts that in my opinion would make his shows MORE exciting for his hardcore fans, and those that have seen him multiple times WITHOUT offending those that are seeing him for the first time. Doesn't make me right, its just an opinion. But what's the harm in expressing it?
-
Personally I intend to enjoy the show even though so many on here are insistent on telling us that we shouldn't. I can't wait to hear I've Got a Feeling , so I really hope he doesn't drop that song from the set list. My personal opinion on this matter which is getting really old is- sorry if he's not playing the songs that you want to hear. Why does everyone that is trying to read about the Halifax show have to be brought down by people complaining?? I think most of us are coming on here because we're excited about the upcoming shows we're attending. Why do people insist on bringing this up over and over again and complaining about the same thing over and over. I think we all get the message some of you are really unhappy with the set list. I'm sorry about that, but I intend to enjoy the show and am just trying to be excited about it.

Ha, OK fair enough. No harm as I said is meant on my end to whoever is disagreeing with what am saying. Its just my opinion. Putting myself in your shoes by thinking back to 89 when I saw Paul for the first time, I'd be mystified with people complaining too. In 89, yeah it was cool to hear all those Beatle songs. I was then also a big if not bigger solo Paul fan than Beatle fan but still hearing all the Beatle stuff then sounded VERY fresh and cool. And actually when he came back in 02, it still sounded somewhat fresh. Then 04, fun but not as fresh. This set list strikes me not much different than a variation of his last 4 tours. He does new stuff off of the latest album, the big Beatle songs, interchanges the medium Beatle hits from tour to tour, one time its Can't Buy Me Love, the other its Good Day Sunshine. One or 2 unexpected Beatle songs, one unexpected Wings/solo song, and for the most part the same Wings/solo hits with some interchanges from tour to tour, ala one time its Coming Up, the next time its My Love. But for the most part its the same songs in circulation. It's sort of like going to blockbuster video and renting the same 10 movies again and again while gazing at another 8 on the shelf that are equally tantalizing but fresher since you haven't seen them. But for those that are watching the movie for the first time, the same 10 is fine and exciting because they haevn't seen them. It's just not as exciting for those that have already seen them. But it still is exciting, nonetheless.

I am trying to recall who said in a post that anybody shouldn't enjoy the show or for that matter implied it? If I missed it and someone said that, I am with you, they are wrong to tell what other people should or shouldn't like. To each their own. I have not said once that other people should or shouldn't like his set list. And if you are excited about the set list, cool and I don't see why people that aren't thrilled with it can dampen your spirit. I've said if it were me personally, if I were primarily a Paul the Beatle fan I'd love this set list. If I were seeing Paul for the first time I'd dig it too. For those that are equally big Paul Wings fans as they are into the Beatles, some of us are dissapointed that he hasn't really done a tour that covers that material well since 1976. That point isn't meant to offend anyone.

mikeskapla - We already got the message from your previous numerous lenghty posts that you don't care much for the set list. Please leave me alone on the matter.

He already said he wasn't trying to offend you, just expressing his opinion. If you read his post that he sent me, it is obvious that he understands our position (i.e., those who have never had the privilige of seeing McCartney before). He's ok.

maybe it hurts him to perform some of the wings songs which especially remind him of Linda :

Thanks. I envy those that are seeing him for the first time. Yeah it continues to be cool in multiple shows, but the first time is special. If you are ever lucky to get in the top 8 rows or so, that's a whole different experience, Paul loves to banter, make eye contact and engage the people close to stage. I saw him for the first time close to stage in 02 in Indy and that was a blast.

I think the bottom line here, regarding the setlist, is Paul didnt' plan and execute a formal tour at all.........this seems to have been quite a bit "on a whim"...........so, he didn't spend time picking out songs for a big overhaul, and then spending the time rehearsing and incorporating the stage to pull it all together............that's my 2 cents.......fini! ......and I consider myself very fortunate that he's doing any of these shows. I felt cheated when his last tour can to an abrupt end.......and was expecting the second leg that never happened, never mind Paul hitting other countries........so, I get to see him soon, my wishes were answered!

totally agree! like he said in Halifax :"this is the first show of a little summer tour" so offially this is not a tour!
