NLWAUGH:
Hi, The July 10th date for the soundcheck appears in an article last week in the Chronicle Herald. It quotes Greg Cox of Power Promotions: may not be long and winding, but the installation of a plywood road Wednesday kicked off preparations for Paul McCartney?s concert in Halifax next week. ".[McCartney] will fly into Halifax from New York on July 10 and perform a sound check before 50 guests chosen through a radio contest. He will also personally inspect the sound and video systems, Mr. Cox said. "Last year in Quebec, he performed in front of 350,000 people and only 12 people got into the sound check," he said. "It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Q104 is the presenting radio station. Today (sunday) they're running ads telling you to listen starting tomorrow for a chance to win an invite to a party on Wednesday night at a bar in Dartmouth. That's where they'll draw the names for the 50 invites. fyi, the stage is going up on the corner of Robie and Cunard Streets in Halifax. You won't be able to see anything of the sound check through the fence, but you'd be able to hear just fine. 6 more sleeps.
FYI - more details on the sound check contest - from the Q104 web site (you can listen all day online for your chance to call in and win a spot). Wanna get as close to Paul McCartney as anyone is going to get? It's the one chance in Halifax to join Paul "up close & personal." And this won't cost you a dime. We've got 2 words for you... Sound Check! And you're as good as there! Listen to the Q for your chance to win a guaranteed seat at the Q104 Paul McCartney Soundcheck Warm up Party, Thursday night, 8p, at Montes Showbar! There you'll be entered to win awesome freakin' prizes, including the ultimate score... a pair of tickets (we have 3 pair to be won) to the private sound check of Sir Paul himself! Get your ticket to ride Thursday night at 8p at Montes Showbar, 245 Waverley Road. Must be 19 years and older. Brought to you by Power Promotional Events and the Station with the Concerts, Q104.

This makes more sense as I couldn't envision the promoters giving Q104 the go ahead to award all 50 soundcheck tickets (invites). Looking at KoolFM's site they also mention the Monte's Showbar invites. DCD Ltd.

Just heard on Q104 that it is NOT invite-only. The event is open to ANYONE, so you can attend without a special "invitation". The invitation only guarantees you a spot in the event and inadvertenly the draw...as it will be first come first serve. I'll be curious how they give the rest of the spots away, though...because they only have a few...

I've been debating going to this concert, as it's a 12-hour (at least) trip for me, and I don't have a valid passport. I figured I would leave it up to chance, in that I would mail in my passport application last week, paying the fees to expedite the process, and if I got the passport in time, I'd go. I can't believe it, but all signs point to me driving to Halifax, camping out at the Fundy National Park, and having an amazing 34th birthday weekas we say in Western Massachusetts, this is wicked sweet! lol ) D lol ) D Then, on to CitiField and the home of the greatest ball team in the world, the Boston Red Sox! Maybe Jerry Remy will be able to go to the shows there?

Congrats, walliebaby! You must be excited! It's hard to believe it's just FIVE sleeps away! Staying in Fundy Park - that's awesome. From what I hear, a beautiful spot. Definitely an awesome way to spend your birthday. Where will you stay the night of the concert?!

Does anyone know where the "premium tents" will be set up? Thanks.

I can't believe it's so soon, and I can't believe I don't know ANYTHING about Halifax/Nova Scotia! lol...I'm such an ignorant American. oops Anyone have any suggestions for someone with a day and a half of Nova Scotia-liciousness ahead of them? I've been told Peggy's Cove is a cool spot for an amateur photographer to scope out, as well as the Fundy tides (which is why I'm camping there). Oh, any good veggie restaurants/co-ops in the Halifax/Fundy area? Cheers! )

Absolutely check out the Wooden Monkey! FABULOUS veggie restaurant here in Halifax. I would definitely recommend going to Peggy's Cove, if you are able. There is a memorial for the SwissAir flight that went down just off the coast of Peggy's Cove in 1998. It's beautiful and you'll have an excellent time snapping pics. Also pop into the public gardens in downtown Halifax. There is an excellent farmers market, too - it opens at 7:00 am on Saturday morning. Lots of delicious things there to have for breakfast/brunch.

In case you haven't noticed, Paul posted a new video message about the show on his website: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news.php#/1669/2009-07

Anyone here a die-hard fan who can't afford tickets to the concert?!

Major Broadcast set for Paul McCartney Event July 7, 2009 For Immediate Release HALIFAX, NS - Power Promotional Events President Harold MacKay announced today that the Paul McCartney event will now be a Major Broadcast event. Sir Paul McCartney's only Canadian performance this year in Halifax on Saturday, July 11th will be filmed for use, including a broadcast at a future date. "This will add significantly to the magnitude of the event since a truly historical record of Sir Paul's performance will now exist after the show. He will certainly put on a great performance anyway, but the addition of filming the event will put this concert over the top" said Harold MacKay, President of Power Promotional Events, producer of the massive event. A crew of approximately 75 will join the existing production staff usually on-hand for each of Paul McCartney's performance. "This is a chance to be a part of history. It will be truly exciting to see this performance down the road and say 'I was there’ “ added Mr. MacKay. The details regarding plans for distribution of the event will be announced at a later date. Tickets for Paul McCartney are available at the Ticket Atlantic box office and select Atlantic Superstores, by phone at 902-451-1221 or on-line at ticketatlantic.com. Tickets are $125 for General Admission and $305 for a very limited number of VIP tickets.

An ignorant American? Never heard of such a thing. If you go to Peggy's Cove OBEY THE SIGNS !!!! We don't want to read about you in the news for the wrong reasons. Definitely walk the boardwalk down on the halifax waterfront...sights and sounds abound...and hopefully the smell is gone (did they get those ozone generators installed yet blondevixen?) DCD Ltd.

lol--Now I'm nervous about Peggy's Cove. ) Oh, thanks for the recommendation of the Wooden Monkey--looking forward to eating there! Oh, I'm staying at the Fundy Trail Campground the day before and after the show, and in Bridgewater the night of the concert. I'm hoping to see as much of Nova Scotia as possible in three nights. ) Hopefully I'll be able to get to the Commons as soon as the gates open and stake out a spot right in front of the stage, as well. Yup, not all going to happen, but it's been fun planning it all out. wink

I am arriving Halifax at 2:30PM on Friday, check-in at Hampton Inn then go downtown for a walk, since there's no reserved seats, we should plan a gathering at a restaurant/pub, any suggestions and ideas???

I'm also up for a gathering pre-concert--great idea! I also hope to get to the gates as they open--I've been hearing 3 p.m. for that--anyone have any better idea about this?
-
Hello everybody! Can we bring signs such as "Welcome to Halifax" at the site? Thank you very much! Bye! Alain Lacasse.
