Maybe it's because I'm an over the top Beatles fan, but I hate to read the negative posts on here. Why would you go to a concert if you don't want to hear the music he's going to play? If the songs have become 'tired' to you, then don't buy a ticket. If you've seen so many of his shows that you're bored with it stay home. I just don't like the negativity and I can't help but feel a little protective of one of my lifelong idols. I trust Paul's judgement to make his set list.
Yup. A lot of self centered morons here.

All my loving? Did he play that?
Yes - check out page 34 of this thread for a post that has a Youtube link to that song (as well as a few videos of Paul's Halifax performances)

I wouldn't blame any of the band if they decided they were stagnating and wanted to break out - just for the chance to play different material. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen because I think they're the best toruing band Paul's ever had. But if it did happen, I wouldn't be totally shocked either
dude, that's what the band do for a living, that's their job and you work to have an income, not to have fun, we don't go to work to get entertained, in this case Paul is the boss and he decides what to do and what to play, if they break up they're quitting their jobs and have to find another one! unless they're rich enough!

Oh my gosh...my first Paul concert. And what a concert it was. I was fortunate to be about 50 feet from the stage, and could have gotten closer, but was actually surprised at how close we did get (with little to no effort). Started off the evening quite well. The tears, for me, started when Paul talked about the song he wrote for John - saying it was a conversation he imagined having with him. Then he proceeded to play "Here Today". I hadn't realized it was for John. It was incredible. The crowd was near silent for the whole song, and I think the better part shed some tears. I was amazed at how diverse the crowd was - honestly, from 8 to 80. It was incredible to see teens belting out every single word to every song. I know his music transends generations, but until I actually saw it, it was surreal. Hubby and I had a 'moment' during "Something"...this was our wedding song last summer. And words cannot describe seeing "Hey Jude" live (this is a song that my dad played for me ever since I was a little girl, and anytime I say "Hey Dad", he replies with "It's not Hey Dad, it's Hey Jude, darling.". I called my parents from the concert (they live in another province), and let them listen for the entire song. They were touched, and my dad says the song will never be the same for him again. The rest of the concert was a blur of expected favourites, and some surprises. I had thought, briefly about taking a pen and paper to record the setlist, but as someone noted above, I just wanted to enjoy the show and the moment. So happy I did. It was increidble. We were lucky to meet some incredible people nearby - only adding to the experience. My husband counted 38 songs in total. I have some pictures, and I'll post soon. I feel so lucky and blessed to have been a part of this.

was a great show! won't type in the set list since there are a few negative people posting, like Paul himself said after he screwed up Paperback Writer , THIS IS MY SHOW!

It sounds like your first McCartney concert was something you'll never forget. That's great to hear! Sure looking forward to New York this week...

Absolutely. They are the luckiest seesion musicians on earth. If they go it`s unlikely to be their decision.

What happened during Paperback Writer?

As someone who usually balks at paying this price( $140.) for a standing room ticket ( being 60 yrs old) this was a concert that my wife and I could not miss and we were not disappointed. A selection of songs from The Fireman, the Wings and the Beatles seemed like a perfect combination to me. The sound was excellent, Paul's stage presence was top notch making you feel a personal connection even though you were just part of the nearly 60,000 in attendence. As someone who had never seen him perform live before it was a fantastic experience. It was hard to pick out one outstanding moment but his playing of the Mull of Kintyre backed by the 78th Highlanders Pipe Band was a special moment for many Nova Scotians.

What happened during Paperback Writer?
It was so funny. They started, but Paul sang the wrong key. So Paul stopped the song. It was a hilarious/humble moment.
-
What happened during Paperback Writer? That was the song that he started off in the key of A when the band started in the key of G. Paul admitted it was his mistake.
-
moptop, that post is actually funny. I'm sure Paul would say, don't let the door hit you on the way out, there are countless fantastic session people out there that would jump at the chance. thanks for the laugh. lol

That video where Paul signs her arm is PRICELESS!!! I love it, thanks for posting it. It's wonderful to watch a fans dream come true right in front of your eyes. For the set list discussion, I understand peoples fustration with the same songs over and over because Paul is so talented and has so many other great songs to choose from, so it would be nice to see him mix it up. But, as a fan who has never seen him live, I'd be just happy to be there, singing and dancing to those beloved tunes and I don't care what he sings. By now, we all know his set list doesn't change very much over the years, so it's really up to the individual to decide. Do you want to spend your money and your time there watching Paul sing the same songs? If yes, buy a ticket and have a good time. If not, don't buy a ticket and don't to his concert.
-
nicely said, I hope you get to a concert someday. it's a treat, hearing those classic songs live, well it's indescribable
-
blondvixen, thanks for sharing your first impressions. Thank you in return for all the helpful local knowledge you've shared in the time since this concert was announced. Martin

nice to know that people who weren't there didn't like the setlist, it will be good when the people who were actually there put their reviews in. I can't wait to hear from them.
Can't wait to hear the same old setlist....YAY

To all those who love to complain about the songs that Paul chooses to perform - I hate to break this to you, but you are in an EXTREME MINORITY. It's obvious by the reaction to his concerts that the man is doing something right. Coming here and complaining as you do isn't going to change anything. Personally, I would LOVE it if he decided to do a toor of smaller, more intimate venues, but I realize that my wish is unrealistic. I'm certainly not going to let the fact that that will probably never happen ruin my concert experience. Now, I realize you have the freedom os speech and all that. But, if you find it impossible to keep your complaints to yourself, why don't you start your own message board where you and like-minded souls could share your angst? It wouldn't be very busy, but it would certainly make this board more enjoyable to read.
-
Awh You guys are still complaining abot the setlist? We should be grateful that we have Paul still performs and puts on a 2 1/2 hour performance You really don't see that much with artists I'm glad he does this for us and of. Purse because he just loves it!
