I haven't made any comments on this thread so this isn't a direct response from me to a specific post. Being on this board for multiple tours now, it astounds me the intensity at times of those people that have problems with other people commenting on Paul's set list. The points seems to be variations of take it or leave it with Paul. Unless you endorse him 100% you are against him or if you have issues with the set list you have no business going to his shows or how dare anyone critique Paul on anything on the board that is totally wrong, or you are lucky he's performing period so making comments shows no appreciation for him. The criticisms to me seem silly. The fans that have issues with Paul's set list are far from inferior fans or traitors -- you can more easily argue that they are BIGGER Paul fans. They are into the whole gamut of his career. Something tells me if Paul would read these "malcontents" posts, he'd be saying to himself "what they want to hear more Wings and solo stuff-- how disloyal, my true fans appreciate me as Beatle Paul. I don't dig those people that are into all of my albums." And yes, I love Paul, I'd go to his shows if all he did was Beatles. But I don't get this all or nothing drill, or that people can't comment on this. And seriously, if you really think about it, are the people that want more stuff covered really the disloyal Paul fans? Makes no sense to me.
As one of Paul's "malcontents" i totally agree with your sentiments. The problem i have is that Paul's shows do undermine his Post Beatle music, and make it look as though he's a washed up old has been, when he certainly isn't.To a certain extent his gigs shout "my solo career is crap my Beatles career wasn't" ,this is not the case as far as i'm concerned.I have said before i don't have a problem with a lot of Beatle songs,i just think they could be varied, plus the Wings ones could be too.I'm not naive, you can't please everyone but variety is the spice of life.

Don't worry about the rain! I attended two shows in pouring rain, got soaked to the bones and didn't even notice!

disneykristi, thank you soooooo much for your amazing account. I've yet to see a show, ever, so I have to rely on people's reviews, videos, pictures, etc. Along with the video I saw of the soundcheck where you could see Paul on the giant screens this has helped me feel a little better about being a bystander rather than participant.

I have a question about the girl and the tatoo: did Paul sign her arm after he sang the song Calico Skies or did he get distracted by her sign during the song and actually stopped singing the song and signed her arm?
After he signed her arm, the band then performed Mrs Vanderbilt. My guess is that Calico Skies was just completed and he was conversing with the audience about remembering the words due to reading signs , which is how the arm signing moment segued in

Maybe it's because I'm an over the top Beatles fan, but I hate to read the negative posts on here. Why would you go to a concert if you don't want to hear the music he's going to play? If the songs have become 'tired' to you, then don't buy a ticket. If you've seen so many of his shows that you're bored with it stay home. I just don't like the negativity and I can't help but feel a little protective of one of my lifelong idols. I trust Paul's judgement to make his set list.
Yup. A lot of self centered morons here.
dont call people morons if they want a setlist change~ I think fans just made suggestions .. how would you like someone to call you a moron or a jerk for makin suggestions? .. You might not agree with the 'set list change thingy" some have suggested... most have been pretty nice about it!~ a lil change is nice since Paul has a huge catalog of songs never heard before.. I can tell you, in 2004? I begged for Paul to do Helter Skelter here, on HIS webby one for it's rawkiness & two it's such a Beatles song.. I thought Rusty & Brian could really knock that one the HELL out!!~ and you know what? In 2004 were were priveledge to hear it for the first time. EVER!!! In Spain-everyones was like ohhhhhhh- oh my! it was so freakin awesome for those of us that were there that night during sound check than the next day at the gig!~ Your like... OMG, DID PAUL MCCARTNEY JUST SING THIS ONE? IT"S A SURRREAL FEELING!!! that was a night never to forget!!!~ it's so awesome to hear his music live never heard before songs- there are just so many songs... When he did Mrs. Vanderbuilt in Paris last year. I thought to myself Oh he's gotta play that one again!!~ than we heard it in New York David Lynch Foundation & Vegas.. and I was like right on Paul. Just like when he added "Too many people" to the set list a few years back. We gasp!~ Paul has alot of fans that follow him all over. Lots are curious to see whether he will surprise us with a new gem never performed before...... And what's wrong with that? lil play on words there The Author~

I just love to read the stories that folks write about their experiences. DisneyKristie. that was an amazing post and thank you for sharing, don't worry it wasn't long winded at all. I read every word and truly enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy your stay in Halifax and experience some of our famous Maritime hospitality. I was in San Francisco last November for work and had another musical dream come true and visited the legendary Haight-Ashbury district. Just walking around that area and imagining the whole "summer of love" was amazing. This was my second Paul show after seeing him for the first time in Quebec last year and it was even more enjoyable the second time around. In Quebec we were so far away on the hill but last night we had VIP tickets in section 6 of the bleachers with a great sight line. Paul was hidden from our view while at the piano, but the giant screens showed us everything. When we first arrived I made the solo effort to the stage and was 7 or 8 rows back, but now into my 40's I found the crowd around me was too aggresive with the pushing and shoving as people tried to wiggle their way ahead of me. So I said to myself I could stay and be annoyed or join my family back at the VIP section and have a great memory of seeing Paul with my wife and kids. I opted to have a great memory with my family of a fantastic night. There were some changes in the set list for sure (although it wouldn't have mattered to me if there wasn't) In Quebec he played "Michelle", "Birthday", "Penny Lane". These were not in the Halifax show, but added were "Sing the Changes", "Daytripper" and "Mull of Kintyre" (a favourite of mine and my moms....I had tears in my eyes for that I can honestly say). While waiting in line at the gates we met a fan and poster on this site by the name of Mary (wish I knew her forum handle) from New Jersey who had caught the Vegas concert and is catching one of the New York shows at the new Citifield. it was a real pleasure to chat with her and hear of her experiences (she was front row at Quebec...quite a feat considering there were 300,000 people there). Paul did mention during the show last night that they were kicking off their "summer tour" so I guess that makes it official.....it is a TOUR!! To all you folks going to the future dates.....enjoy, have a fantastic time, and make some wonderful memories. -Rod

I didn't mention my run-in with somone in the crowd. I found them quite aggressive, too. It was during Joel Plaskett, and someone had previous gone to "get more beer and pee" or something like that. Anyway, later, during Joel Plaskett, he returned...he came up behind us and said said he wanted to get through, and I said "sorry, there's no room in front of me", he was a huge guy, and would have blocked anyone any distance behind him, anyway, he proceeded to say "well f*ck this, I'll go through you" very roughly grabbed me, picked me up and shoved me out of the way, cursing all around him that the reason everyone was feeling the fallout of his aggressive behaviour is because "that b*tch wouldn't move out of my way". I was a little shaken, but wouldn't let it ruin my night. Luckily once Paul came out, it was easily forgotten. But I did find a lot of the crowd were ROTTEN in the front area. Aggressive, inconsiderate, and overall horrid. Guess it just takes a few bad apples, eh?

Great rocking setlist! Was there a pre-show, a band opener, some kind of opening?
-
Local bands Wintersleep and Joel Plaskett Emergency were the openers as well as a folk artist/fiddler from Winnipeg. Being a maritimer I'm a bit bias but Joel Plaskett was great. Heres some video links to a couple of his songs.

I was not at Halifax last night, but I think I will enjoy the new set list as it differs significantly from the set list I saw October 8, 2005 in Washington, DC at the MCI Center. Paul performed 26 Beatles songs that night and 22 Beatles songs last night swapping out Magical Mystery Tour, I'll Get You, Til There Was you, In Spite of All Danger, I Will, For No One, Fixing A Hole, I'll Follow the Sun, Good Day Sunshine and Penny Lane for All My Loving, Something, Paperback Writer, A Day in the Life/Give Peace a Chance, Day Tripper, Lady Madonna and I Saw Her Standing There. I think this represents a major shift in songs that allows me and others who were at the 2005 shows to hear additional performances of classic tunes by the Beatles. Both shows featured only five songs from the Wings period: Maybe I'm Amazed was replaced by My Love last night and Jet, Too Many People, Band on the Run and Live and Let Die remain, deservedly so, as concert staples. There were four additional solo songs performed last night, which I felt was a good improvement. Instead of Fine Line, Follow Me, English Tea and Jenny Wren, Paul performed Only Mama Knows, Highway, Here Today, Dance Tonight, Calico Skies, Sing the Changes and Mull of Kintyre. Flaming Pie remained the solitary solo song repeat. All in all, I am greatly looking forward to the show in DC. I can't see where any complaints about the new set list are warranted.

The set list Paul and the band performed in Halifax was nothing short of perfect! I can't wait to see this show in New York City!!!

Anyone know the entire set list?

I've never been to a 'general admission concert'. I would be afraid that situations like you described would be the norm. Did that guy end up blocking the view?

There were definitely some bad apples last night in the front of the stage. I was scared of that so thats why i bought the VIP. Didn't want to expose my two young sons to that. In Quebec we knew we weren't getting near the stage so wasn't much of a concern. At one point last night I turned to the group of 20 somethings (maybe younger) who were pushing and shoving to get by me that although I respect their desire to get as close as possible, it was really impolite and inconsiderate (actually I used harsher words than that) for the folks who had been there for 5 or more hours. I got a few thank yous and some hi fives from others around me for that. That seemed to help as they stayed put beside me at least until I backed off to my bleacher seat.

Good article here : http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1131947.html Amazing show - A bit of a jam on Foxy Lady was a surprise... And to all the 'veterans' who are complaining about the setlists: Remember, Paul has never played Halifax before so 99.9% of the people hearing these songs for the first time.
Sounds like it was a great concert! I'm glad he added Day Tripper and the Mull of Kintyre...hope he plays them in DC!
He's never played Mull in the U.S. He saves it for the Canadians. Glad he did Day Tripper. Sounds like it was a great show!

a drummer who works in a music store I shop at where i live (Fredericton) got to play Mull on stage last night. He's part of the Halifax Citadel Pipe Band that performed it at the show. http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/front/article/723609
