Billy Joel Snares 2014 Gershwin Prize

Billy Joel is the next recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Excellence in Songwriting , it was recently announced. Made me think of Joel's penchant for trying to emulate Macca's style in some of Joel's songs. An obvious inspiration for Joel-- our Macca music man. Do you think Billy Joel deserves this great honor (I wonder why no female winners so far)

Certainly there are worthy female artists - so I can't answer that question (someone like Joni Mitchell, etc would be a great choice). However, I certainly believe Billy Joel is worthy of this award. He's been a creative force since the mid 70's...I wasn't a huge fan of the 80's and beyond (or at least whatever came after Nylon Curtain)...but there's no doubt that material was still a very popular draw

Joni Mitchell certainly deserves this. So does Carole King. They will have to give this to Bob Dylan someday.

Billy Joel deserves a lot more respect than he ever got from the critics.
