      MaccaBeatles:

He also invented MTV, is a pioneer of country rock and his Mum invented White-out! (Tippex)

Nah...Bette Nesmith invented Liquid Paper, not Wite-Out. And The Beatles invented MTV, though Nesmith was a video pioneer in the 70's.

So after 39 years 1 month and 23 days I finally saw Mike Nesmith perform in concert. Monkeemania invaded New Brunswick, we went for pizza on George Street and the place was full of Monkee fans, there were no ticket drops for the show, if you went into the box office you were told "there is not one seat available" at 7:30 they started running videos of vintage Monkee clips TV commercials they did for Rice Krispies and Kool Aid, along with promos for HEAD and some music vids from the different episodes. At about 8:00 the lights went down and the backing band came out and played an instrumental Monkee medley. The setlist was a great mix of Monkee hits and lesser known album tracks which was perfect for both casual and diehard fans of the group. For "Randy Scouse Git" Micky told the familiar story about going over to England and getting invited to a party thrown by the Royal family or at least the real royal family.......The Beatles. The great thing about this song was if anybody remembers the old video for this song Micky is wearing this serape thing, well it wasn't the original but he put on something similar, that was later revealed to be a table cloth that they cut a hole in (ahhhh those '60's fashions) After a few more songs including an incredible rendition of Papa Nez's "Tapioca Tundra" they ran through the entire HEAD album, to complete the album they played Davy signing "Daddy's Song" on video but the band played the music, they used the great video of Davy in the white and black suits dancing around with Toni Basil (Hey Mickey!!) For "Daydream Believer" Micky explained that the song now belongs to the people so he wanted us to sing it. They picked a woman out of the audience and brought her up to sing the song with the crowd. This was really perfectly handled in my opinion. The crowd was really into the show, almost every song got great applause and you could really tell the majority of the people were fans who knew how special it was to see Mike onstage. Now for my 2 cents on Papa Nez. I was very happy that he was involved in the show and by that I don't mean that he showed up , I mean that he talked and joked and they even had a funny bit where Mike did sound effects for the "missing" Moog Synthesizer during "Daily Nightly" so he truly was a part of the show. All his songs were good and his voice has held up very well. The show was pretty close to perfect in fact the only thing that could have made it perfect was........Davy completing the group. Looks like the UK will be next year (but with these guys who knows) Here is the setlist Last Train To Clarksville Papa Gene?s Blues Your Auntie Grizelda She Sweet Young Thing I?m A Believer (I?m Not Your) Stepping Stone I Wanna Be Free (Davy Video) You Told Me Sunny Girlfriend You Just May Be The One Mary, Mary The Girl I Knew Somewhere For Pete?s Sake Early Morning Blues And Greens Randy Scouse Git Daily Nightly Tapioca Tundra Goin? Down Porpoise Song Daddy?s Song (Davy On Video) Can You Dig It? As We Go Along Circle Sky Long Title: Do I Have To Do This AllOver Again? Daydream Believer (Audience) (What Am I Doin?) Hangin? Round Listen To The Band Pleasant Valley Sunday

Amazing setlist. Most of my favorite Monkees' songs on it. Glad you had a great time, and I'm also glad that the group is still touring. Got a little tear in my eye reading your "Daydream Believer" story.

The show definitely lived up to my expectations, I would love to see them continue but with Mike you just never know. "Daydream Believer" was done in a classy way, some people thought that the girl they called up to sing was "planted" but I say no way!! They played clips of Davy (and the rest of The Monkees) from the original video on the big screen throughout the song. Also forgot to put in my original post that Mike not Micky sang lead on "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" this may have been my highlight of the show. (Mike wrote it)

Was looking on You Tube tonight and decided to look at some vids from the New Brunswick show. This is not my vid but I thought some folks might enjoy it so here is one of the Nez songs from the tour. Sweet Young Thing

Sounds like they're STILL very much artists. Great updating of that song!

I went to Mike Nesmith's show in Rahway NJ last night. He is out on a solo tour playing songs from his post Monkees career (he did open the show with Papa Gene's Blues so he did one Monkees tune) The show was good and his voice sounds great. After the show I got to attend the "Video Ranch" meet and greet with Nez. I got to talk to Mike for about 5 minutes. He confirmed that the 3 Monkees are going back out on the road this year. I asked him if he had one memory that stood out from the session he attended for "A Day In The Life" and he thought about it and said he certainly remembered the session but his main memory was "Marianne Faithfull" he didn't elaborate so I cannot be sure why she left such an impression. Mike is a great guy, I am glad he finally got back out on the road.

Saw Micky at Epcot last month, he opened up the Flower Power concert series they always have. Like another poster mentioned about Daydream Believer he did the same bit with us and there was barely a dry eye in the theatre. He is quite amazing though I do miss Davy's performances.
