I'm recalling now the duet of Evie and me.
Still no-one has "attacked" my piano playing on youtube notes should have had more "length time", and big reverb (sort of what I did with Mad World), now it sounds like Lady Madonna...No 'attacking' necessary....your playing was great!! Sure, there's always something that could be better but I always think that with my guitar playing as well.

Happy Easter everyone!!! Here's a better headless version of my first S&G tune.
Happy Easter everyone! I'm realizing Paul Simon's songs got a lot of chords, changing constantly from one chords to another, sometimes I just don't understand how can you learn to play it... I would get mad... I can do it with the piano but I think it's a lot easier...
They may have a lot of chords, but Paul Simon does have a knack for creating absolutely fantastic songs with some of the "easier" chords...so there's less problem for me to learn them, haha. That's not to say I will ever be able to learn how to play songs like "Anji" or "Overs" :...Because I probably won't be able to. Those chords are probably simple (maybe, in come cases), but they seem crazy!! Anji may not be the best example because it's not a Paul Simon tune. As for the Beatles' an Paul McCartney songs...wow, a lot harder to learn (IMO)...I don't know why...they just feel more difficult!
"Anji", do you mean Rolling Stones' "Angie"? I don't know which one is "Overs" Well, many Beatle songs are composed with piano, as they didn't come naturally with guitar to the composer they can be harder to play with it... I didn't know Paul Simon has a musician son.

Noooooo, not Rolling Stones' Angie. I mean Anji! It's a guitar tune by Davey Graham originally but Paul Simon arranged it and played it on the "Sound of Silence" album.
Here Paul Simon plays it with his brother Ed (they look almost like twins :shock. And "Overs" is the one : I loooooooooooove this song! -

I just think it doesn't match the "spirit" of the song, it's sometimes rude... and the song is anything but rude. It's nothing about notes, just about the feeling. I just found out Elton did a cover of it... or I should say a copy
-
I just read in Freddie's bio a similar thing than what Paul and Elton explained about playing Hey Jude in the Montserrat concert. Freddie said that if you asked him to play on the piano, for instance, "Love Of My Life", he would not be able to play it. Even though they sang the song every night, only with Brian May at guitar. He wouldn't play any song composed by him (or others...) without lots of time for searching for the chords or so... Now, there's something I don't get here So Elton, Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury couldn't play any song on the piano by ear... not even their own most famous songs, but they needed quite a long time of searching for the chords, even if they're not strange (Hey Jude doesn't have strange chords, I think...). And well, and I think I can play any song just simply starting to play it. (well, it if has some not very usual chords, I need to play it for some minutes to find them... but not for a song like Love of My Life or Hey Jude...) now there is something wrong here anyway... the "divine" Freddie with the "divine" Montserrat Caballe, it didn't sell a thing, but what does it matter really? Guide Me Home

by the way, the original request of writing the anthem for the Barcelona 1992 Olympics was for Paul McCartney, he was choosen for writing a song. But Freddie came with this one and it was so obvious that the McCartney project was stopped.
And then, well, Freddie died and then they called Lloyd Webber and he wrote "Friends Forever". Anyway this is the unofficial anthem of Barcelona. -
well, Global Wings, this week's American Idol has been about Lennon/McCartney, I've posted the videos on that thread (with Paul in person appearing). As you have covered all the songs, you're the best judges for this... and Bjorn, I like your "Say it to me now" above any performance of 2 weeks ago in American Idol

Well, I saw that episode yesterday, I must say I really liked some of the contestants, especially the version of Lennon's Jealous Guy. AND, who am I to judge, I am like you or anyone, or anyone appearing in Idol, it's Paul and the rest of the guys who did the job...I am just so humble to be able to sing the best songs in the world!! Could be worse, right! Thanks for the raving review though!

well, man, you've sang the songs, so you know the difficult things in them... I'm always annoyed that judges in this contest are not singers or musicians... I don't understand much how can anyone that haven't tried to sing Hey Jude (or any song) in his life can judge a performance of Hey Jude. Yes, they can, but if it's like if I judged if a building was well built or so... "hmmm... oh yes, it looks good, I guess you've done a great job.... hmmm, no, wait, I don't have a clue about architecture... if the building was about to fall I just wouldn't know..." The thing with the contestants is not any single performance is that every performance seems to be the same every week. (I even guessed most of the Lennon/McCartney songs they were going to choose). It's like they only can sing one song really. But well, these auditions are about that "Sing any song""lalalala... (singing any song I choose...)" "ah, ok".... instead of.... "wait, now... why don't you sing.... why don't you sing Lawdy Miss Clawdy (for instance)?" I've always though it would be funny if the "rivals" could choose the song the other had to sing... like "Aaron, you're gonna sing Helter Skelter"... "Crystal, you're gonna sing I Am The Walrus", "Casey, you're going to sing Penny Lane", "Andrew, you're gonna sing I'm Down", "Katie, you're going to sing Tomorrow Never Knows", "Lee, you're going to sing Oh Darling", "Michael, you're gonna sing Octopus Garden "Siobhan, you're gonna sing You Know My Name "Tim, you're gonna sing Golden Slumbers" well... I'm not that bad.... I only mean there are lots and lots of people who does it better, but well, it's their show, so they're free to put into it whoever they want, this is silly complaning...

I still haven't watched a thing but it seems last week on American Idol was "Elvis week"... the way things are going next week will be Queen's week. Edited: performances on American Idol's thread. We can discuss syncopation.

I've updated my version of SusyLovesPaul's "You Got More Sass Than Class." Definitely has a Lenny Kravitz'ish vibe to it:
Nice to hear some new music around here again, Bjorn. Ollie, any impossible duets on tap? -

David Archeletta owned the night, in my opinion. That kid can sing!

I think I forgot to post it here, but the other day I did another "impossible" duet with my Japanese friend.
My favourite so far!! -

Withney has finally stopped touring so I though of doing One Moment In Time... also doing something with Freddie. But I don't think I'll have the time, not even for a "take one and don't look back" session

I didn't know he was on the show that night. I liked a lot Adam Lambert as a mentor this week.
There's a thing he does most of the time with his voice... I've been doing a similar (hey!, only similar) thing for years... now I call that thing "Archuleting" I'm like that, I don't know the real names of things in singing, so "you need to use the Elvis kind of vibrato", this is a "Freddie", "you can do like Sinatra did in that song..." like if was gymnastics, where movements receive the names of their creators... I'm not gonna try to remind who wrote and how sang Imagine and I just say David's performance is fantastic. -

My favourite so far!!Your projects are getting more and more gorgeous! Almost everything you've done in the last year would make a heavenly album. Seriously.
