New video! AND new guitar!! A Gibson J-200! [ [img]
You know what, at the start of the video I heard the guitar riff and saw you playing chords and I didn't understand a thing... It's a multi-track recording but Susy, I haven't played a thing here. Some say that one must start with a cheap, bad instrument when learning to play... but when you buy some real good one you realize that "It plays by itself". An Strato plays by itself but at first you wonder if you could play it or not... well... Great, as always.
I am sure the video quality fools you Oliver, because what you hear and SEE, is only ONE guitar, the live one, that is played at the same time as I sung the lead vocal, my hand might look as it is strumming, but I am picking those string for sure! Glad you enjoyed it!

SusyLuvsPaul:
I forgot to remark on that gorgeous new guitar, it's a corker! both in appearance and sound. Glad it's inspiring you to do more music
It is something, I finally decided I am going to get myself a real guitar, been using the mid-priced, mid-quality stuff for so long... I have tested so many guitars before finally deciding which one I wanted, I even voted down the Martin D-28, this was better sounding... And for the nerds out there, you know, Martin D-28 is THE guitar of so many Beatles songs! With this new baby, I am constantly finding details in songs I used to play, and that it all sounds so much better! (I have other happy news too, my future is looking so much more busy, will be a daddy in June! )

Also... ...you're rockin' the long hair, my friend!
I have postponed my visit to the hairdresser for too long!

Very well done, Bjorn, that was delightful! A sensitive yet lively, spirited rendition of a George Harrison composed minor masterpiece, really cheered me up, a wonderful surprise! I hope Claudia sees this, looks like she was in here earlier, might still be. She teaches guitar, too. (Hope you saw your Donald Duck cartoons this Christmas, Bjorn! ) I haven't heard audi's yet, didn't have time to upload it right then. I'm sure it's real good, too Please put up more of yours, Bjorn, it warms the heart and does a body good on a cold Sunday. You're very talented. Also audi and Oliver (21st century Paul). This was your vid but I didn't wish to leave them out. They've contributed a lot, too, like you. But we don't see enough of you By the way, smashing (and cute) hair style, man Those specs look cool too. Not really nerdy, not on you, anyway! Good show, Luv
Yes..you did a very nice job on that one, Bjorn! (very uplifting!)...it's always such a treat to see what you'll be playing next...you never disappoint! Oh, and I agree with Susy Q...your new glasses suit you just fine!

Well, this is cool, friends... ...I sat in with some guys -- and a very cool chick -- playing an impromptu show at a Nashville restaurant/venue last week. They asked me to play bass and sing. I wish I had recorded all of it, but here's a portion of our set: THE EASTLAND CAFE BELATED X-MAS PARTY BOOTLEG CD: http://www.mediafire.com/?6251zbh9bqbto4a And we had zero rehearsal, so everything's "in the moment." Plus, this recording does not do the night justice. We sounded great, and the crowd was great. The first song is an original, written by one of the guitarists. I didn't know his song, but I kept up OK on bass. After that they asked me to do a couple of Beatles tunes...and so on. The music starts at 01:54 -- prior to that is chatter while we were tuning up, etc. I start singing at 06:20 ("I Saw Her Standing There") -- I was so nervous, resulting in less than perfect vocals. Nonetheles, having to play bass and sing lead at the same... ...it was very hard to resist pretending I was Paul McCartney. This has a very Cavern Club vibe about it. : ) -Audi: bass/vocals -Kevin (my buddy): drums -Judd: guitar -2nd guitarist (?) -Dana: vocals
I don't have time for listening to it now. Well, If it's the first of the second time you sing live with an audience, you just got to be nervous and vocals got to be far from perfect... Well, you know Elvis. The firsttime he sung live he was so horrible that some in the audience advised him to retire and only drive trucks, he was the worst of the night. And the second time was kind of the same. As Metallica sing "Never care for what they say..."
I appreciate your words of encouragement. However, the Elvis anecdote you used is incorrect. The story goes: A young Elvis had auditioned for the Grand Ol' Opry in 1955. He and his band kicked ass, performing a high-energy cover of Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon Of Kentucky." Because his style was so wild and "negro," he failed the audition and was told to go back to driving a truck.

No, I mean way before that. He sung in lots of high school concerts, parties, etc years before. Actually he won a prize in a singing contest when he was a child. But then his voice changed and he had to start again and that's when they adviced him to drive trucks forever.

some trivia about some singers "in public" beginnings: It's quite funny, Elvis, taken from wikipedia: 1949 "Enrolled at Humes High School, Presley received only a C in music in eighth grade. When his music teacher told him he had no aptitude for singing, he brought in his guitar the next day and sang a recent hit, "Keep Them Cold Icy Fingers Off Me", in an effort to prove otherwise. A classmate later recalled that the teacher "agreed that Elvis was right when he said that she didn't appreciate his kind of singing."[ 1954 "Not long after, he failed an audition for a local vocal quartet, the Songfellows. He explained to his father, "They told me I couldn't sing."[40] Songfellow Jim Hamill later claimed that he was turned down because he did not demonstrate an ear for harmony at the time.[41] " Elvis (in high school) "I failed music?only thing I ever failed" And many of his 1950 performances were full of people telling Elvis "you can not sing, go and drive trucks" Freddie Mercury When Queen's drummer and guitar player auditioned him said "He has a great voice but he can't control it", but Freddie was a fan of band and was always around so he sang more and more with them... Paul McCartney John was not impressed by Paul vocals or guitar playing in the Quarrymen (future Beatles) audition, only was impressed because Paul remembered the lyrics of Twenty Flight Rock Bono The Edge: (when Bono joined the band) "We told him to play drums and that was horrible, we told him to play the guitar and that was horrible, we told him to sing and it was even worse, but he had personality and I think a singer must be someone with personality, so he got into the band as a singer" Paul was not admited in a choir for not... having musical ear. John was admited but fired because of "skylarking" I think Elvis was not admited for "not having a good voice." or so...

Very cool indeed! I Saw Her Standing There is such a fun song to play live, and you catch the energy! Great that you're doing live stuff, next time VIDEO!!
Thanks, sir. I might've caught the energy -- too bad I didn't catch more of the right notes.
Hey, I'm listening now!. You couldn't resist to pretend you're Elvis either. I'm not seeing anything wrong with "the notes", I think it's great this way.

Paul makes it looks so easy than most people think Paul vocals are easy. I remember Coming Up in the Get Back video... Hamish Stuart is a great singer... Paul sings Coming Up, as usual, easy... then Hamish sings one line and he's struggling... Like Lee DeWize struggling all the time with Hey Jude, etc, etc, etc.

Believe it or not, I realized that, after seven years here, and all kinds of recordings... I still haven't posted any Beatle or Paul cover. So I had to fix it. I almost always change something. I thought of making it slower and with piano in the background. The original doesn't have much reverb, so I thought putting some would be a change, though the GMRTBS has many reverb too. One of your better tracks, Ollie! You've brought a new emotion to the song.
