Wasn't yesterday Bruce's 67th birthday?

Nancy R:
Wasn't yesterday Bruce's 67th birthday?
Yes. He was on Stephen Colbert's show on the 23rd, his birthday (but it was taped the day before). He is doing an East Coast and West Coast blitz of bookstore appearances and three "in conversation" events over the next two weeks. Tickets for all of them are long gone. Reviews of the book have all been positive. He is also going to be reading the audiobook which is not due out until December.

Springsteen wrote this book himself, in longhand using pen and paper--no ghostwriter He's obviously quite brilliant

I picked up Bruce's new book yesterday at B&N in Freehold NJ (on Hwy 9) at the Bruce meet and greet. Boy I wish every event like this could be handled this well. Everything was well managed and I never had an ounce of stress, everyone got a picture with Bruce and a signed book (Event was free only had to purchase the book for like $23.00) Word is that around 2,000 people went through the line so time was limited with Bruce but everyone got an opportunity to say something quick and have a photo taken with Bruce. It was a really nice event for Bruce's hometown fans and I really appreciate him doing it.

Yes! Congrats! Bruce did a few of those events but none near me. There were some people who got shut out of the Freehold event because it started early and Bruce left earlier than the announced end time, so they showed up "late" and missed him. but otherwise I heard that the events all went fairly well. The book is excellent, not every detail is new but it's interesting to read Bruce's take on his life. Definitely not ghostwritten; it's his voice for sure.

It's an excellent autobiography. Here's the Rolling Stone interview. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/bruce-springsteen-goes-deep-on-revelations-in-new-memoir-w443387

I had to take the day off of work in order to attend the meet and greet and while I feel bad for people who showed up at the end and did not meet him, when someone the level of Bruce is handing you this on a silver platter you do what you have to do in order to make sure you are there early as with these kind of events you just never know what will happen. I finally had a chance to crack the book open and take a look around and I am very happy that on page 421 Bruce includes the story of the two guys that met him in Freehold and told him about never seeing the E Street Band. That was my friend and I back in 1998, he has told the story several times over the years but I have to admit it was pretty exciting seeing it in the book. And the funny thing is that we were in Freehold that day because of Ringo (It all comes back to The Beatles)

This self-penned tome is excellent, truly literary non-fiction, eloquent and poetic reminding you of various Springsteen song lyrics. He goes so deep and intense and profound about his family history and makes you feel you really know him and his loved ones, and feel for them. Very vivid, honest depictions. You feel he's held little back.
