So how do they go about getting people up on stage? Really cant wait for this hehe.
He just goes out down the aisles and picks someone. Or sometimes when he is occupied one of his assistants might grab someone. Just because someone isn't at front row doesn't matter. He didn't even pick anyone from the front row when I saw him. Why? Do you want to be picked? You'll get to hold his hand, spin the wheel, have a cocktail and dance in the cage. Hahaha. I'd be waaaaay too shy to do that.
Oh dear god no i don't want to be picked, lol, but we're about 6 rows from the front and on the aisle seat so i suspect i pop my hasband into the aisle seat and leave me safe
You're still not safe.
LOL,i have that feeling
Oh go on... get up and dance The drink helps you get your courage up.... I wanted to be picked!!! Didn't get picked though... Going again... I think I'll be sitting to far away this time, pity...
-
Russell Crowe? Wow that's crazy! I'm not sure i'd want to be picked out of the audience though! I've read from some people that Imperial Bedroom is supposed to be Elvis's best album but it's taking a while to grow on me I must admit. It's good but it hasn't struck me like it has some of his other stuff. Man Out Of Time is brilliant however!
-
Lol. Yeah. Meeting Elvis would be cool, but I'm the type who would rather have a hug and an autograph... not get in a cage and wobble around in front of thousands of people. Too shy and can't dance!
-
Trust me i'd look like the biggest prat around! If I were to meet him i'd just want to shake his hand and maybe get an autograph.
-
It wouldn't be so bad if you or I were picked, went on stage, spun the wheel and a slower number came up. Then we could just sit there and observe. Unless one of those go-go dancers took me by the hand for a slow dance. Then it's bye bye! :
-
Wow do they actually do that? Sounds a bit cheesy, I can imagine the middle aged housewives getting carried away with dancing on stage! It sounds like fun though to be at one of these shows! Are all the songs done via the spinning wheel or are there some that are performed at every show?

It's lots of fun, they go through the audience and find someone who is a really good dancer, usually. Then a couple of saucy girls bring you up on stage... you spin the wheel and Elvis will play the song that the wheel ends up on... so the setlist is always different. Then they let you drink what I imagine is a pretty alcoholic drink. After that, they have a go-go cage that you go in and dance. Sometimes Elvis goes in and dances with you... sometimes it's a couple... it's always fun...they pick all ages. They even have one of those carnival bells, where you have to swing the hammer hard, to make the bell ring. Then you get to pick a song. Napoleon Dynamite (Elvis) may come up and chat with you a bit... It's a great show...dancers in the cage, the saucy girls dancing and Elvis the performer who wears many hats, performing and telling tales and even going into the audience to pick a dancer or two. The go-go cage goes back to the early days of Shindig and Hullabaloo and whatever similar shows they had in England back then. Was thinking how fun it would be if Paul had a spinning wheel... different songs for each performance. Don't think he'd have the go-go cage though... Still imagine 50 or so songs that he could wind up playing if the wheel landed just right!! We were contemplating how nice that possibility would be!!!

I had the fortune of meeting him (plus the band and the dancers) after the show at the Wiltern in LA earlier this year. We stood with a few other fans at the stage door, and after about an hour Elvis walks out with his wife. Very nice guy, talked and took pictures with everyone out there, even cracked a few jokes. fan: "Elvis you're the king of America" Elvis: "Someday, Someday" It was nice being able to thank him personally.

Can't wait to see the show again... hope he keeps the wheel for a long time... have seen it twice now... waiting for my third time!! Over the years, seeing his shows have been some of my favs...
-
Looking forward to see him tear it up next year.

On tv last night I was watching a repeat of the now canceled Cold Case. The episode focused on a missing kid who starts off as sort of a punk rocker and joins some sort of cult. At the end of the show they played What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding...
That is precisely why I stopped watching that show. They closed every episode with an appropriately effective, emotive song that made ya' well-up. I don't like getting teary-eyed.

I've seen a few that have gotten to me. I can relate.

Who else is going to Liverpool next year?

What do you think about the first episode of the second season of Two and a Half Men, where Elvis Costello played himself (he's in a support group with Charlie and other guest-stars in this episode like Sean Penn, who also played themselves). I think it's brilliant, esp. the digs from Sean Penn to Elvis considering his song-writing (because he blamed Elvis to take the secret things they all told in the group and put them into his songs).

Could anyone (AbbeyRoadCrosser) recommend some albums? (for the millionth time ) I hear the first three are 'classics' but I have the compilation 'best of the first 10 years' (or something) so I dunno where I stand with what to get next. Wanting to know a bit more than the first 10 years so I know some stuff for the show. Thanks.
-
For some reason today coming out of the library Elvis Costello songs were going off in my head. I think I'll give some of his albums Ive not heard a spin on spotify.

Brutal Youth and All This Useless Beauty are essential post-Blood and Chocolate albums. His albums this past decade have been spotty, but The Delivery Man and Momofu_ku are pretty good and Elvis seems to like playing songs from those albums. You might want to check out National Ransom too.
-
Momofu_ku is definitely a good one. It's as if Elvis Costello of 1978 time travelled to 2008 and decided to make an album just because. Some rocking tunes on there.

I think Spike is brilliant too but Get Happy is my fav. 20 songs almost all of which are brilliant!

I went mad and got tickets for both nights in June when Elvis will play the wonderful Royal Albert Hall again. West last year and it was brilliant! Anyone else going or thinking of going?
