Monkees Lead Singer Davy Jones Dies

Davy was easy enough to meet. He did the comic con and media con circuit for a while (along with Peter and Mickey who are coming to the next one around these parts). I got to meet him a few times due to that and he was wonderful. I actually bought and read his book and enjoyed it too. He went to young. Loved ya, davy.

I just read (from another person, not the actual article) that Davy blasted Paul in an interview from about a year ago. That he could sing better than Paul? Anyone read that?
No. Maybe google might turn it up.

What's the source of this interview? What publication was it in and when last year did it appear?

It wouldn`t surprise if he said something like that. I think he had a bit of a tendency to sound off about things, and I`d heard him make remarks about the Beatles before. I think he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder about the Beatles, which is silly, as he owed his whole existence as a pop star to the Beatles, and Paul in particular. Anyway, sad that he`s gone. I love the Monkees. I know people who met Davy who said he was charming.

As I stated in the above post...I just read it from another person. I have no idea where it appeared. Maybe you could check google if you're interested in it.

I'm amazed by how insensitive some people can be. Check out this tweet: "This Davy Jones thing is a great dry run for when Paul McCartney dies." : : : : : : :

Here's an interview...but not the one I spoke of earlier. Though there are quite a few along the side. I don't want to listen to THAT much Davy though. : Right now I'm listening to him complain about not being in the R&R Hall of Fame.

I think the gripes regarding the HOF are well founded. This article makes the case better than I can: http://www.wbur.org/npr/147736081/now-can-we-induct-the-monkees-into-the-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame

Have to agree with this post. It is sad if Davy did say any of those things. Still, sad for him, his family, friends and fans. I always enjoyed seeing repeats of the show. Also I imagine they all (meaning Beatles and Monkees) got along well when they all met in 1967.

For those interested, there's a FB group advocating for the Monkees to be in the HOF. Hey, it worked for Betty White hosting SNL, so who knows?

why? because one of them died? shame they care now. :

This one's been going on for a while now. It's going to get more attention because of the tragic passing of Davy, but I've been a member for a year or so now.

Antenna TV in the US has been showing a Monkees marathon this weekend, and they are showing the Brady Bunch episode today. Haven't watched this much Monkees since the MTV marathon in 1987. The shows were actually pretty funny, mostly goofball. You always just waited to watch them lip-sync their songs. Good show, great songs! Micky Dolenz was the guest on Pierce Morgan Interviews on CNN Thursday talking about his friend Davy.

I really wish I got Antenna TV so I could enjoy this marathon. I was hoping MTV might run the shows this weekend, but no such luck...looks like I'll have to rent the DVD's (they do exist for the show, don't they?) and join the fun that way. Always loved those shows, as they're so ridiculously awesome, and the music is fantastic!

It is nice to see him and The Monkees getting some props now. People tend to forget how huge they really were. Their second album More of The Monkees was the biggest selling album of 1967, number one for 18 weeks in the U.S., even outselling The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper (that year, not in the long run). An interesting bit of trivia is they were also the first band to use a Synthesizer as an instrument on record.

I wasn't around when they were popular, and caught them when MTV was re-airing the show. My mom, though, was a HUGE fan, and still has some merch of theirs as well as some grainy concert photos she took when she and her cousin traveled 10 hours to see one of their shows. I didn't realize that they were the first group to use a synth in a recording, but did remember that they rivaled the Beatles in popularity in the US, at least for a while.
