I enjoyed the 2012 Grammies telecast more than I expected. Nicki Minagi's "Roman" song was the only one really which weirded me out some and I didn't "get," didn't understand what the song was about and what style, was that hip hop or trip hop or funky rap or what? I didn't like that style. (sniffs). Didn't care for Bruno Marrs at first but then started getting into his. He's talented, can dance like a demon too I loved the Foo Fighters rock song which won in its category . Loved Taylor Swift's striking performance of her song "Mean." Playing banjo, dressed old timey, looked six feet tall, hair in pigtails. Big contrast to Katy Perry's performance...never saw or heard Katy quite like that, before. Post-divorce profundity. Showed courage in getting out there again. She seems more mature now with the extra unhappy life experience Adele looked and sounded smashing! Singing "Rolling in the Deep" (is that its name? Record of the Year) Was that a bit of A "Cockney" accent? Adele's speaking voice-- she doesn't speak "posh"! She needs to take elocution lessons from Jeremy Irons, LOL, love his pronunciations. The girl singer in "Lady Antebellum" has gained weight. Must be from the good life, aye?, she still looked quite pretty. Rihinah looked and sounded gorgeous on that number with Coldplay. Wished she had done the entire song with them. Odd that Lady Gaga didn't perform "Born This Way," didn't perform at all. Didn't miss that, really, to be honest. The Beach Boys sounded pretty damn good! Especially Brian Wilson--didn't they? I liked Maroon Five more than usual, doing a Beach boys number. Who was that the Maroon Five lead singer introduced, a cute boy singing Beach Boys, in a band preceding the Beach Boys themselves. "The Band Perry" had never seen them before, want to see some of their vids, also "The Civil Wars." Amazing voice that girl unleashed. Poignant when a surprisingly good sounding Glen Campbell did "Rinestone Cowboy" and I fancied the sight of Paul Mc. singing along to that! "My Valentine" I still don't dig that song as much as a lot of people, it still sounds a bit too bare bones and plain to me, it's sophisticated and all that but doesn't truly thrill me. Although I did find myself singing it a little yesterday and humming its melody. Jennifer Hudson was about to break down balling, singing "I Will Always Love You" in tribute to Whitney Houston. That can't have been easy for Hudson. Reminded me of Elton John's about to falter once or twice doing his new rendition of "Good bye Norma Jean" titled "Goodbye English Rose" at Princess Diana's overwhelmingly elegant and fancy funeral service. Paul and band ended the show with a bang. reminding you how special and extraordinary and wonderful so much of the Beatles music is That some of their songs, right many, are down right superior to just about anyone else's. "Not too shabby" Spectacular finale.

They stepped it up because they knew I'd suspended my Grammy-boycott this year.

I stopped watching the Grammys in '09, after the final slap-in-the-face. I could no longer stand to watch Paul continue to get nominated for awards and get sent home with nothing. I'd had it. Paul got screwed with Flaming Pie, Chaos...*, MAF, the Amoeba gig; absolutely no recognition for Electric Arguments. Couldn't take it anymore. In fact, Paul didn't go to last year's show either. And, of course, he FINALLY wins...but it's for a live version of a Beatles song. : *=I heard Paul was visibly angry backstage. And rightfully so.

Really? How do you know that?! That's not like Paul to let his happy-go-lucky facade drop...

It could be another one of those 'Net "stories." But I definitely read in '06 in one of those entertainment blogs that he was seen sulking at a post-Grammy event. Who knows? And if it's true, I wouldn't blame. He poured his heart and soul into those songs.

He looked irked when a Jeff Bridges song bested his "I Want to Come Home" winning the award at some show, the camera zoomed in on his face right when the winner was announced. Paul didn't frown, he just looked momentarily miffed. Chagrined or something. I recall feeling a bit surprised by his reaction, but it was understandable. He's human.

I think Paul finally got his propers from the Grammy crowd this year. There was an air of sadness about the show with the death of Whitney Houston hanging over it all. I thought even Paul's Golden Slumbers sounded a bit tired and somber. I did not watch the whole thing, but I thought the Rihanna/Coldplay pairing was a bit odd. Did not see the connection at all. Overall fun, but a sad evening nonetheless.

That was a surprising highlight for me. It is well-documented here that I am no Coldplay fan, and Rihanna's music is not my thing -- but the song was strong, and their voices blended well. Like you, though, I was scratching my head at first. I watch a lot of concert-festivals, and unexpected collaborations are often borne from these opportunities. I remember Keith Urban and Alicia Keys doing an awesome performance of the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" a few years ago.

Rhianna had sung that song called "Princess of China" (or something like that) on Coldplay's new album, with them. Chris Martin evidently has a thing for the most famous American female singers. He's very good friends with Beyonce, too.

As for Beyonce, I'm not so crazy about her recent musical output. I still say her first solo album and her Destiny's Child projects are her best stuff to date.

She cannot sing live. Did you notice that the first segment of her performance was an audio playback featuring what seemed to be a look-alike on the stage? Then, the real Katy Perry appeared mid-air in a glass box or something, singing live -- and the live vocal was a stark contrast to the playback. She sucked on SNL several weeks ago, too.

Can you find a link to Taylor Swift's 2012 Grammy show performance of her song "Mean," audi? Quite striking, I thought, how that was done. I wonder if others will agree.

I'm going to second audi's problems with Katy Perry. Let's face it, the best part of her performance was when the mic had feedback and people in the audience were wondering if the Grammy sound people had screwed up. That's when Katy Perry, the real version, came out on stage...
